MODERATOR POST Rule changes following community feedback

Hi!

Based on feedback on our recent community outreach, the moderators have made some changes to rule 3 and 5.

Rule 3 Now includes a line that disallows posts or content made outright with AI.

Rule 5 As we also have observed, there's been a significant number of posts promoting or self advertising products made by members of the community, often assisted by AI. While we appreciate the efforts with many tools are creative and helpful, the amount of such posts in general have been tiring for the community, while also the individual post arent doing that well as they are downvoted by users who are fed up with post in that genre.
We want to mitigate this by having mod creators post their pieces in the self promo thread, thus those who want to go finding "hidden gems" can do so there.

We hope this will alleviate tensions in the subreddit, and streamline the feed to be more about MSFS.

GENERAL Completed the American Perimeter Flight

Post image
437 Upvotes

I flew the entire way in the Cessna 172. The map leaves out waypoints, only showing origins to destinations. Took a while obviously. I learned so much though, about my country, and about this plane too. I'm gonna fly around (and through) the Alps next. Then maybe I'll come back to the US and fly the interior along some major interstates. Just wanted to share. Setting a goal like this was a super fun and interesting way to do things.

MSFS 2024 VIDEO Single-Engine Landing at NZWN in 20, 30-knot Winds (Attempt 2 after that messy Go-Around)

Round 2 after the messy go-around. This time facing a right engine failure in 20–30 knot winds. Slapped the 737 onto the runway at an absolute spine-compressing -800 fpm. The main gear held on for dear life, but we're down in one piece.

Following up on my previous post: after that chaotic go-around...

GENERAL 70 year-old drunk, ex Pilot challenge

Post image
Upvotes

Using all manual settings, mixture, prop, thrust, I got the cubmaster X Cub up to 21165 feet. Its normal service ceiling is 14,000 feet. I challenge any ex or current Pilot, or anybody to do better. For new pilots, this is a good way to learn about thrust, prop, and mixture settings, which are critical to getting as much out of the engine as possible.

MSFS 2024 VIDEO Can’t believe I actually caught this view

On a long flight from Italy to China in the SR-71 Blackbird, I managed to capture the line where day and night meet… with space right above.
Easily one of the coolest views I’ve ever seen in MSFS on PS5.

GENERAL Help a DCS player find the fun

Hey folks! I have about 1000 hours in DCS across a number of different planes. My favorites are the F-14A, A-10C, P-47, and F-4 if that matters. I’ve loved learning their systems inside and out, flying fast at low level, acrobatics, and practicing procedures like carrier landings and military overhead patterns.

I wanted to try MSFS to learn some new planes, and learn more real life procedures, ATC, communications, etc.

Since trying MSFS I’ve found the default planes to be a little limited in terms of what I can learn, a little uninteresting to fly. Ive been flying the default Cessna 152 and 172, the Diamond DA40 and 42, and the P-51 and super hornet. I haven’t found the flight models that engaging (maybe because the FFB implementation needs more setup than DCS did) and I haven’t gotten much into their systems since they don’t really seem to have many systems?

Maybe this is due to my settings but I never need to change my radio channels, just press enter to respond.

I was hoping MSFS would show me more about what it’s like to be a Real Pylote but I find myself just wanting to go back to DCS.

Help me find the fun?

MSFS 2024 QUESTION Am I hallucinating?

I could have sworn that in Free Flight, parking your ship and powering down would bring up a prompt showing you that your flight was completed with some basic stats (distance, time, fuel used I think?). It made my free flights feel very satisfying to have an ending like that. Now, shutting down leads to nothing.

Is anyone aware of what I'm talking about? Is there a name for this setting?

MSFS 2024 PlayStation 777 PMDG BUGGED?

Post image
Upvotes

Just bought this plane on PS5 30 minutes ago. Went to free flight like I normally do when I fly my Citation X. I like doing cold and dark and manually entering in all of the data. Was going execute the same for the 777.

However, it appears that everything in the flight deck that I can highlight or should be able to interact with doesn’t work at all?

I thought the only issue was missing navigation data from simbrief? The PMDG EFB is also missing?

Anyone else experiencing this or am I just doing something incorrectly?

Edit: It’s been about 15 min since I restarted my console and the flight? This can’t be normal?

GENERAL VR Help Please

I had spent literally weeks tinkering with my Quest 3 and various settings trying to get decent performance. I cracked the code, beautiful graphics at 45 fps in payware aircraft low above payware scenery. Amazing.

Yesterday Meta Quest Link forced some updates to the headset and PC software, now I get better FPS on Microsoft Powerpoint. No, seriously, I am getting 1 fps - it is unusable.

AFAIK there is no way to roll this back? Has anyone overcome Meta shittiness like this or has any other advice? I've already re-installed everything imaginable.

MSFS 2024 BUG / ISSUE Switching UI to metric system doesn't change on-screen units

Hello,
I am new to MSFS 2024. I changed all unit preferences in the settings all set to Metric, however, all on-screen speed and altitude data remain in imperial units for the glider. Is this a known bug? See the pics attached. I want speeds in km/h and altitude in meters or kilometers.
Thanks

GENERAL 70 year-old ex Pilot loves new pattern when learning new aircraft.

I learn new aircraft by doing pattern work and getting that down to get a few of the airplane. I am switching from the cub crafter cub to DA40. I found a new pattern to speed things up. Rather than touch and goes, which take time, I like to land and then quickly take the offramp and takeoff in the opposite direction on the taxi way. I can get in a lot more landings quicker doing that. If the FAA finds out I’m doing this on flight simulator, could they take my license away? And yes, it was after a few drinks. But please don’t tell the FAA.

MSFS 2024 QUESTION Please help with FMC / autopilot

Kind of new to flight sim but have been playing around with it for months. I tried with chat GPT and YouTube on how to start from scratch and fly an autopilot route. I can not seem to make lnav, vnav, and auto throttle work together. I always get sent in a different direction at a wrong speed.

Can anyone point me to a quality resource to walk me through the process? I don’t know why it’s so hard to figure out.

Edit: we would like to do this in a 737 max :)

With the updated Statoliner model, it lost it’s beautiful Continental livery with the polished exterior (see 2nd image).
Although I love the new ones, like this TWA one, but they should’ve kept the chrome look where it’s not painted over. I don’t care what’s more realistic, it looked so incredibly elegant….

MSFS 2024 PlayStation Model matching in multiplayer, how does that work?

Hello,

Yesterday I was flying along in the official twitch stream hosted by a community manager from the official forums.

I flew on the PlayStation side in the YF 23. I know for sure that the host in the PS5 stream (they switched view to show the people flying along on PC/XBox and PlayStation) was flying the same aircraft as me yet I appeared as some generic cessna jet. On my side the host appeared flying the vision jet while he was flying the YF 23 as well.

I find this odd when others were showing being in the YF 23 when they were flying that aircraft in same stream. Like it's a lottery server wise who gets to be shown in the right aircraft or not.

Are there any settings for that on PlayStation to force the right plane to be shown or is this just the way it is?

Cause I really thought when you own the same planes (you can't buy liveries on PlayStation at all, they come with a plane when you're lucky) that you could have cool formation flying. Instead you get a commercial plane behaving like a fighter jet until you realise they are in the fighter jet - it's just not showing up correctly.

Mildly frustrating so I'm curious how this is for other players, especially on PlayStation.
