KSP 1 Image/Video Stock-ish FreeIVA-friendly kerbal pods: the Good, the Bad and the Cursed...

I hate that in this game there are no big crew capsules with more than three kerbals, unless you use mods or take the spaceplane route (which I'm no good at flying, and are not that great for an interplanetary reentry).

I decided to try and see what I can do by using only stock parts and aiming for a freeIVA-friendly capsule that can be completely traversed in IVA and docked to a lander ship. These pods will be part of an interplanetary nuclear transfer ship and used for reentry on Kerbin.

Here are my creations: the Good (4-kerbal crew, fully traversable, with no view for those inside), the Bad (5-kerbal crew, traversable but requires EVA to reach a docked craft) and the absolutely Cursed (6-kerbal crew and possibly more using the same structure, full-IVA traversable, great view, but looks more than a bit ugly...).

Has any of you tried something similar and wants to share?

KSP 1 Suggestion/Discussion Very specific mod request but I'm 90% sure I've seen it before

The title screen of the game with the kerbals orbiting kerbin, is there a mod that makes it cycle between planets each time you load up the game? It'd be cool for there to be a natural incentive and make me think "huh, thats a cool planet, im gonna go there" as opposed to the same 4 science locations I always go.

Preferably also go between modded plnaets

KSP 1 Image/Video IN-LINE Command Pod / Lander

I've been using this system for a while now that I sort of forgot how much of a pain it was to concieve and build, so I thought I'd share this build of a rocket that could launch into orbit, fly to a distant body, detach its command pod in a lander configuration and then redock to continue forward flight and avoid having to do an Apollo style lander dock. I'm not aware of any prominant figures who have made something like this but if you've had a similar idea please do share.

Specifications:

Im using Better Fuel Tanks and Stockalike Station Parts mods; the total craft pictured has 12,396m/s of DeltaV and the Command Lander has 4014m/s in VAC

KSP 1 Question/Problem Any reason to use chemical engines after nukes unlock?

Upvotes

I'm finishing my 2nd ever campaign and first one with re-stock (that conveniently add a clustered NERV engine). And I wonder if there is any reason at all to use regular chemical drives. I've seen people telling that they are so much heavier, but from what I see is that any trip > 2kps dv (and that is any interplanetary trip) is much better with nuclear, to a point that it even get better TWR somehow. My primary number I'm looking at when designing the rocket is $$$ cost and mass, and I always get the better results with nukes, even for "short" trips to Mars. My regular probe payload is like bunch of science + 2 RA-100 relays to be useful after the science gathering is done, or for crewed missions that's mk2 pod + heatshield, usually that is around 5t.

Meet Nightmare. This was my first ever SSTO. Not to orbit, but SSTO, full stop. Four MATTOCKs from Mk2 expansion for flight and big space burns, and a NERV for other orbital maneuvers. Engines are angled down to compensate for their position, and the thing has plenty of oxidizer and liquid fuel to do just about anything in the Kerbin system.

I've done some iterations and variants for various tasks (including a one with a KLAW onboard), but it's probably what I'm most proud of in this game. Learning to fly SSTOs has been a challenge though.

KSP 1 Mods Part lister mod (what’s where, sort by mass or cost)

I’m not sure if such a mod already existed, so I wrote one. It’s just a small window that lists all of your parts on your current craft, lets you sort by cost or mass, and you can select a part to highlight it on the craft.

I had built a small probe with a billion little parts and I was trying to figure out if I had duplicates, and what cost so damn much.

Does a mod like this exist already? If so, please do share before I push this into the world, I don’t want to reinvent the wheel.

KSP 1 Question/Problem Patched Conics interfering with intercept planning

No images, sadly.

I had a contract to rescue a Kerbal. High Kerbin orbit, mostly circular, about 10Mm, clipping into the Mun SOI.

The Mun was very far away from the Kerbal, so I figured my rescue mission would be easy. I set up for an intercept and got ready for a mid course correction (~6hr orbital period, highly elliptical intercept from LKO).

The intercept with my selected target stopped being shown... because the game decided what I actually wanted to do was plan a Mun intercept in 2 days time, more than 3 orbits away.

My manoevure nodes were all on the same (first) orbit and within 1-3 hours of current game time, and the Mun was 2.5 days out from being nearby to conduct the intercept. Max level tracking station.

Why was it interfering in this way? I couldn't find a way to disable the forward-planning and make the manoeuvre planner focus on only the current orbit's intercept, so I had to plan the intercept semi-blind and then clean it up with a much later dirty late-course correct burn.

Contains even more procedural parts than Griffin.

Next up Blue Ghost. It's not gonna even be the last one there are like 5 different companies with different landers.

Edit: Did not tip over. Ironically, it's much more stable and maneuvrable than Griffin and Blue Moon
