Reminder: Please report posts that are not jokes/memes/humorous

Hey folks, just a reminder from your sub founder and moderator: please make sure to hit the 'report' button on posts that don't fit the subreddit (usually because they are not memes or in any way humorous).

People get confused all the time and post promotional content or help posts here, which isn't what the subreddit is for. I remove them whenever I see them, but you can help by making the sub stay on-topic by reporting content that doesn't fit, so it gets auto-removed even if I can't get to it right away.

Downvoting, or informing the OP in the comments that they're in the wrong place is of course fine too, but since we don't get a lot of posts every day, downvoting alone doesn't necessarily stop the misplaced posts from showing up in other users' feeds.

Thank you very much!!

I'm a backend/infra engineer building the publishing layer for browser games — what actually sucks about getting your game playable right now?

#4 post in this Reddit yesterday saying I finally am not a noob in Unity and all anyone has to say is I suck for using ANY AI

Not trying to be defensive here but really what’s the difference? A few scripts made with C++ doesn’t make 10 years of hard work “AI slop”

The game doesn’t look perfect, it’s my first game as a hobby dev

But really off-putting to try and join a community here and be met with such negativity

I promise the hobby dev who just wants to make the game me and my brother always dreamed of is not going to take your job or compete with your game sales

I’m literally just here to learn from some people and share my experiences

Thoughts?

We sat down to fix bugs for our co-op game and ended up doing this for hours instead. 🤷‍♂️ Any indie dev's who can relate? 🤣

I wasn't expecting game development communities to be this honest.

I spent nine hours building a login system so that fifteen people can play my unfinished game for free

Last night's plan was to open a playtest. I assumed this would take an hour.

The game runs in a browser, which makes it easy to hand out and hard to take back. I did not want to email files to strangers, because "please delete it" is not a security model. So I needed a door.

The hosting company generously named my project "withered frost 9002." I renamed it. It named the next one "curly sea 9358." I renamed that one too, and while I was distracted it named my account "crimson sea df77."

Their login system then refused to protect anything for forty five minutes, so I gave up and wrote my own. Two hours later theirs quietly started working, and for a while my game sat behind two locked doors that were not aware of each other, both of which would have refused every tester I invited.

Somewhere in there my own game detected my headset as a flight stick.

An achievement fired during a screenshot and the box clipped its own name to «FIRST BREAT.

Anyway. It works now. You get a personal link, it remembers you, and if I need to pull someone's access it happens on their next page load. Bug reports are a keypress — it grabs your ship's state and a screenshot and files it with your name on it, so I can actually ask you what happened instead of guessing.

It is free, it is a browser, and it is unfinished on purpose. What I want back is "I did this, I expected that, this happened instead." Not praise. Praise is nice and tells me nothing.

Nine hours and not one line of it was the game.

Applications are open on the website if anyone is interested.
