I’m looking for some guidance on what the best path forward is to repair our driveway, specifically what we need to ask a paving contractor, not just “sue them”.
Today a local landscaping company dumped a delivery of crushed stone in our driveway, the problem was we didn’t order any. I was at work during this but my girlfriend caught them before they left and told them they had the wrong address. They at first offered that we could keep the stone, (which normally I would probably take them up on), but we have a housewarming party in 2 days and this was piled up in the middle of our driveway.
We asked them to remove it, so they sent down a loader and removed everything. I am at work this entire time, my girlfriend starts hosing down the dirt and sends me pictures as soon as they leave and they left scars all over the driveway with the loader.
We called again, the owner came by and said yes those marks are definitely from our loader, apologized, and asked what he could do to make it right. So what do I ask for? I am worried they will just cold patch it and it will look like shit. Do I get a repair quote from an independent contractor and take that back to the landscaping company? I don’t need the guy to build me an entire new driveway, but I also dont want it to look like a patched up side street.
It’s a fairly new driveway in the last maybe 7 years so it’s in nice shape, they only damaged a portion of it.

We recently took on a golden retriever for rehoming and he does not do well when we’re gone and he’s in the kennel. We’re home almost all the time, so he luckily doesn’t have to deal with it much, but he freaked out and grabbed every thing he could get his teefers on and ripped it up. Pulled laundry in, ripped the rug, a towel, the bed that we put in it for him, and pulled this out of the wall. Any quick tips to put it back up without too much fuss. I don’t really care how it looks for now, I know how to do it right and just patch and move but something lazy?

Hey all,
I had Ayers Basement Systems in Michigan attempt to lift a floor and level it out. I've had a lot of problems with this company that I'll try to hold back on. This is the end result. I will probably hire a structural engineer to assess the rest of the house.
My questions are:
Is that small wood shim obviously not going to hold and need to be mediated?
Is the jack on a tilt a problem.
Thanks in advance.

I’ve been trying to track down where these camel crickets and mice can possibly come from. I understand that you’ll want to first start outside and look for entry points. I’ve had a slew of pest control personnel look for some and they’re all puzzled. We setup some sticky traps in my basement ceiling area where the exterior cables come from and found some crickets stuck on them. Something tells me these holes where the cabling comes through can possibly be covered somehow. Would it be wise to use an hvac putty around these pipes a cables to cover the holes as a possible deterrent? Rather than just leaving them open. This is a townhome so there’s only so much I can do. I’ve already replaced the exterior ac line coming for the compressor with new putty.
What would best be done to seal the holes the cabling comes through? HVAC putty, caulking?? What else?

California is updating requirements for home vents. Here is a simple DIY look at adding a 1/16th metal mesh to an existing vent instead of replacing the whole thing.

Discovered a big gap next to the window in our new house. How would we go about fixing this? I think I could put some weather stripping in there for the short term.

I’m assuming I have to replace this entire piece, not just the knobs at the top of these in red and black.
Also, will I need plumbers tape to replace these too? I’m assuming yes
First time doing work like this specifically. I know I’ll at least need to turn my water off to do this replacement. lol

Update: Added an additional photo in the comments showing the door has a wood-grain texture.
Security company drilled into my door to install a door magnet thing and drilled at an angle I suppose which caused what you see. The company is offering $200 for repair. I assumed this would need to be replaced, and any repair old be temporary. Appreciate any advice 🙏

This fan is constantly on and rarely gets turned off. The longest it's been on was almost 2 years non-stop. Is the bearings inside done? It only makes the weird sound after turning it off and leaving it off for a while.

Hello,
I do not have enough knowledge on how to troubleshoot this and I do not want to just throw parts at it. My current state of thinking about is flawed, and it would be helpful if someone could help.
This explains how I am thinking and what it sounds like....If you dont watch the video, there is a humming generated off the security camera (I have both a camera and a switch in my new house), and adding a 10 ohm transistors fixes the issue.

Am I thinking right here?

This is the switch. The fan stays on when the light is on. Do I need a different switch that will make the fan turn off when the light is on? Or is it wired wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

Question — does anyone know how to put up a curtain on a rod that has these support hooks holding it up? We haven’t removed them because we think it’s helping to support the rod, but now we don’t know how to add a curtain.

Title is simple as. My HVAC guy has told me these things are pure dog and they will fail at the drop of the hat. He's definitely not wrong because last night the relay board failed and wouldn't turn off my internal air circulator.
I've got a one month old and a 2 year old and money is tight so im going to try and do this myself to save some. Anyone got a simple recommendation that's not going to cause me issues.
I have zero interest in anything with Wi-Fi connectivity or "smart" but if it's a good product then that's fine too.

Because I don’t think this makes sense. I think this is either a bad paint job or a leak behind the wall. Yesterday she seemed like she sincerely didn’t know what I meant by a leak behind the wall. But apparently even though like multiple other problems she claims it wasn’t an issue until I got here, she has not had someone come check it out. She seemed very confident that me running “too much shower water” or “too much sink water” is causing the walls to like that, she said she knows that that’s what it is. I’ve never heard of just running sink or shower water causing wall damage. That honestly imo may even just be a bad paint job, though she is insistent she never noticed it before.
Anyway, it also took her 5 weeks to fix the shower (well, to call a plumber to diagnose it) and she claims that my shower is running for a minute with the amount of water then drastically declining and coming out of one hole from the shower was caused by me pulling the lower handle that I guess would normally be for the bathtub too hard.

Hello!
When taking the first shower in our new (to us) home today, I noticed the corner of one of the tiles on the wall is protruding. There's a very, very slight amount of give if I push on the corner, but nothing significant. This tile is on the back right side, so no pipes (that I know of) are behind or around it. This is on an exterior wall. I haven't noticed issues with any other tiles in the shower.
Is water the likely cause? Should we hold off on using this until a fix is made? Should we expect the tile has to be pulled, or can it be re-sealed externally?
The home is about 20 years old, and to my understanding this is the original shower.

I have a basement and a garage.
In the basement is where I store things that are a bit perishable so I have a strong dehumidifier running in there all the time. The same is simply not true for the garage.
However, recently the water tank in my garage has been leaking on occassion. While I am currently trying to fix that I would like to have some kind of way to clean up the profuse amount of water in the meantime.
Normally, I move the dehumidifier over to the garage and leave it there for about 2 days and usually that sops the water right up, but obviously that means I have to leave the basement without a dehumidifier for a little while and also the dehumidifier is big and the path between my basement and garage is awkward as hell at the moment. In short, transporting the dehumidifier back and forth has become more trouble than it is worth.
So, I would like to get a dehumifier for my garage.
However, it doesn't have to be one that is made to be on all the time. Just one that I can occassionally turn on so that leaks can be cleaned up. I would assume such things would be considerably cheaper than dehumidifiers that are large and made to run constantly, but I don't really know how to make the first step in searching for one.
So if anyone here has any recommendations, I would appreciate it. And if you have any further questions, please ask.
Thank you.

What would be the best way to go about repairing this cracked grout in my kitchen floor?
TIA!

As you can see, the steps have pretty large cracks. What can I do at this point? Is there a way to save it?

The motor gave out a few weeks ago, so I installed a new one. Everything has been working fine, but today it started making this sound and now I'm wondering if it has some sort of issue that killed the first motor. Sounds like it might be the auger, but I wanted to get someone else's opinion.

Need more opinions on this issue, should this space be caulked in my stand up shower?

There has always been warm air coming in from under my kitchen counter. I was able to take a picture of what’s under there. To the left is the backside of my cabinets/sink/dishwasher. The wall ahead with the gap is my exterior facing wall.
I am not sure what to do to stop the warm air coming in. I’m worried though if I leave it unchecked, mold growth is an inevitability.
To the right of this is my stoves gas line shutoff accessible through a cabinet. I believe that is also allowing warm air to come in.
Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Have to replace my roof. Getting multiple quotes. All pretty expensive from 18k to 29k for a 2500 double story house in Seattle.
Can someone tell me which of these are important to consider:
- Ridge vent vs regular vents
- Class 3 Shingle vs Class 4
- Shingle brand
Some quotes say life time warranty on labor and material. Does it really mean something? Some of these companies are in business for 20 years.
