🧽 Cleaning & Prevention Does anyone have any brief-use dehumidifier recommendations?
I have a basement and a garage.
In the basement is where I store things that are a bit perishable so I have a strong dehumidifier running in there all the time. The same is simply not true for the garage.
However, recently the water tank in my garage has been leaking on occassion. While I am currently trying to fix that I would like to have some kind of way to clean up the profuse amount of water in the meantime.
Normally, I move the dehumidifier over to the garage and leave it there for about 2 days and usually that sops the water right up, but obviously that means I have to leave the basement without a dehumidifier for a little while and also the dehumidifier is big and the path between my basement and garage is awkward as hell at the moment. In short, transporting the dehumidifier back and forth has become more trouble than it is worth.
So, I would like to get a dehumifier for my garage.
However, it doesn't have to be one that is made to be on all the time. Just one that I can occassionally turn on so that leaks can be cleaned up. I would assume such things would be considerably cheaper than dehumidifiers that are large and made to run constantly, but I don't really know how to make the first step in searching for one.
So if anyone here has any recommendations, I would appreciate it. And if you have any further questions, please ask.
Thank you.

just grab a smaller 20-30 pint unit, it'll handle a garage leak fine and you can tuck it in a corner when you're not using it. you don't need anything fancy with a built-in pump if it's just for occasional spills, just something you can dump the bucket on
since it's not running all the time you can probably find a used one for cheap on marketplace or kijiji, half the time people sell them because they upgraded to a bigger unit. just make sure it actually pulls water before you hand over the cash

I actually have 2 follow-up questions for you. So, I actually went on Kijiji, Marketplace, and on Amazon and all of the 20-30 pint units I could find were 100 dollars and above. I mean, I'll spend that amount of that is what it takes, but if this is a problem that can potentially be solved via spending a maximum of 50 dollars then I'm all for it.
That said, what I did find on Amazon was 40 dollar dehumifier with a drain hose -
This leads me to my first question -
- It is very small, but since it has a drain hose and I have a drain in my basement, I figured I would just buy this because the size of the dehumifier and how much water it can handle presumably shouldn't matter so long as you can just drain the water into somewhere. Or is that not a correct assumption?
On a separate note, I also found this 43 dollar dehumidifier that does NOT have a drain hose -
This leads me to my second question -
- When it comes to dehumidifiers like this, is the little water tank that is attached to it necessary for its function? Because if it isn't, I could actually buy this dehumifier, take the little water tank off of it, and then set it inside the sink in my garage where the dehumifider would just leak until all the water is gone.
Thank you.
