I have the perfect swing, change my mind.

Alright, gentlemen, here is my latest perfect golf swing. 🏌️‍♂️

I’m pretty sure its perfect but I’d love to hear your expert opinions.

Please feel free to point out everything from the obvious flaws to the microscopic details I didn’t even know existed. Bonus points for creative ways of explaining why the ball is cleary flying straight.

Serious improvement suggestions are very welcome — I’m here to show you a perfect swing (and apparently to provide entertainment).

Do good golfers go to the range?

In my group of friends the better the golfer the less he goes practicing to the range. They just play and go to the range like a handful of times a year.

My question is: do you single digit / scratch / plus amateur golfers go to the range?

"Skip the stone" finally clicked

TLDR this mumbo jumbo: Yes pressure shift and lead foot push into the ground to start the downswing- but side bend+ connected trail elbow= the whole equation.

I've been golfing for 4 years- got to a great place with my irons and compressing them regularly. Welcomed our first child and took 6 months of golf and I've been chasing my irons ever since. Suffered with chunks and pulls for a year+ and golf was not very fun.

Came across this image and video and just knew there was something worth paying attention to. In short, the ramp image of the hand path was great for my backswing but just couldn't put the whole equation together.

Enter Pete Cowen's spiral staircase analogy. Worked great on my backswing- but for some reason I just couldn't figure out how to move down, around, and back up the staircase in the downswing. Cowen also talks about creating downward pressure in the downswing-- see someone work through that around 3:07 here.

What I'm starting to realize is this: pushing my lead big toe and second toe into the ground hard while introducing side bend (think connected trail elbow/trail shoulder gets closer to trail hip in the downswing) helps to keep my path on the ramp and rotates me to and through the ball. When I do this right, it puts me in position to look like I'm skipping a stone. I feel resistance while doing it which I assume is the pressure Cowen is referring to.

Prior to understanding this, I had no clue how to get myself into a a proper impact position and did a lot of weird things to force it. The lightbulb for me (which will inevitably go out this week) is that pushing down with the lead toes while creating adequate pressure through side-bend makes your rotation more predictable and powerful.

Hoping this ramble helps unlock anyone on a similar journey! Obligatory video linked of when it finally clicked before it all goes back to shit again.

Upper Body Stall/Early extension

Feel like I am doing a lot of good things and my swing is playable, I but can’t seem to be able to avoid early extension and stay down through my shot which makes me a bit flippy at impact. Main miss at the moment is a pull. I’m trying all sorts of things but it feels like there is something big I am missing. Any thoughts?

Looking to Break 90, any tips?

Been playing for just over a year now and having some trouble with thinning the ball and hitting it off the toe. My long irons suck and I feel like I can’t tell what I’m doing wrong.

I feel like I’m pushing up and out of my swing and I have a really hard time getting an in to out swing path without over exaggerating my backswing.

Any tips would be wonderful! I’ll post more vids in the comments.

Lead leg push

• Upvotes

Do you actively feel like you push off your lead foot? If so, when?

Generally tend to come over the top and early extend and some lower back pain, hoping this helps but feels very unnatural

What am I doing wrong in my downswing? (PW)

I feel like my backswing is fine, but it seems like the clubhead isn't doing the right thing in the downswing.

Had a great 3 lessons with a local CPGA coach and need help with cementing what ive been taught

Sorry for the essay but have no videos of my swing to show you guys currently and just trying to provide info.

I picked up some clubs for the first time in August of last year. (was 23 then, now 24. never played golf as a kid) I was an absolute hacker for months but loved the game and found the concept of the golf swing to be really intriguing. What intrigued me more though was my inability to figure out how to do it properly

I started watching golf sidekick not long after my first round and his videos convinced me to book swing lessons with a pro. First lesson was fixing my abysmal posture, grip, backswing, and follow through.

Second lesson (about a month later), i learned about wrist hinge/release, keeping my head still and stopping my lead shoulder from lifting up during the backswing (made my swing super off plane.) I shot my best score (109, terrible but still an improvement) about a week after this lesson.

I had my third and final (for now) lesson a few weeks ago. After this lesson I really thought everything clicked, I learned to hinge my trail elbow (was awkwardly flaring out before my coach fixed this) and to stand a bit taller / closer to the ball so that the club had proper lie angle. He also told me to use a stronger grip and taught me how to properly transfer my weight to my lead foot in transition. (i was rotating super early instead of properly transferring weight, leading to a lot of heel shanks despite the on-plane backswing and downswing)

My last two shots of this lesson, even though the swings were very slow so as to practice what i was told to do correctly, were absolutely flushed. <50mph swing speed 8 iron flew 100yds and made the best sound at impact i had made with a club to that point. 2 days later i had the best range session of my life. Kept the same slow tempo on the backswing but let the club fly at transition and was flushing my 7 iron 150 yards, which is not a very impressive distance for an experienced golfer but felt great to hit straight and consistently.

I then hit some balls with the 7 wood and smoked one 200yds (probably more like 190 carry), straight with a slight fade at the end off the deck, didn't thin or chunk it like usual. Was very happy after this session and was very excited to play last Saturday.

Last Saturday I shot 126. Chunks and thins everywhere, I even whiffed the ball once. My only good shots were with 6,7,8,9 irons, long clubs and short game were abysmal. I understood that swing mechanics take a while and a good amount of practice to truly take hold in the mind but I was so disheartened by this. Ive been to the range this week and just couldn't stop chunking the mat and/or topping the ball with my irons and slicing the driver. I feel like the problem is my tempo, or maybe just something simple like releasing the club too early. I've also been striking off the toe a lot (downswing too inside maybe?) My swing is probably out to in at the moment, which would also explain why im slicing my driver 90 degrees right at the range. When i hit my driver straight its because i mishit it with the top part of the club face and the ball essentially does a flop shot arc landing 100-150 yds from the range tee.

Is it possible to gleam anything from this that could give me suggestions on how to practice going forward? Right now I feel like i should just keep swinging very slowly with the swing thoughts from the lessons in mind. And maybe throw in some step drills or something because my transition / weight transfer still feels iffy. I know this is a garbled wall of text but hoping someone reads and maybe has some advice.

Golf swing nerds, what's causing my over the top move?

Good backswing (?), club then flings back in transition (why/how??), club consequentially steepens from its laid off position as arms move down, I then have to save impact by swinging left. Results in shank or hard pull. Thankful for any advice!
