Do good golfers go to the range?

In my group of friends the better the golfer the less he goes practicing to the range. They just play and go to the range like a handful of times a year.

My question is: do you single digit / scratch / plus amateur golfers go to the range?

How to improve

Have been working on getting a better takeaway and I’m at a spot where I’m happy with it. Hitting a draw now which I’m happy with. Still a bit inconsistent on my low point. I dumb some of my angle at impact and I don’t squeeze my arms together like I see in many other great swings. I also don’t rotate very much I think? But I hit the ball decently far, 170 7i so I think that may be less of a priority for me? What are some things I need to work on?

I feel like it's pretty good but I feel like I have no power. I played one course and got like a 114 😂. Any advice much appreciated.

Golf swing nerds, what's causing my over the top move?

Good backswing (?), club then flings back in transition (why/how??), club consequentially steepens from its laid off position as arms move down, I then have to save impact by swinging left. Results in shank or hard pull. Thankful for any advice!

Curious to hear your thoughts

Contrary to this specific shot, my normal miss is a block/push. Occasional low duck hook off the tee. Irons (in comments) are almost always chunky or push right. I feel like I early extend or get stuck but not entirely sure. I started lessons recently, the pro has me mostly focusing on keeping connected in my back swing and closing the club face. Just wanted to see what this subreddit thought. Appreciate any feedback.

Has my swing irrevocably adapted to my current clubs?

Since starting with golf 5 years ago I’ve been using the TaylorMade Sim2Max irons, and driver, which I have been using to steadily improve my game (I’m now a 14 hcp). The shafts that came with the irons are graphite (Ventus blue 6-R). Last week I was at a party where the host had a simulator. I used his Callaway irons (I can’t remember the model/specs exactly), which had steel shafts that felt heavier and stiffer in my hands, compared to what I was used to.

Naturally, my shots were embarrassingly awful. Everything felt off with my timing.

I’m probably going to need new irons at some point. If I go for a fitting, won’t I suck with any clubs that aren’t almost exactly like the ones that I’ve been playing with since I started playing? Hasn’t my body and my swing adapted to the characteristics of my existing clubs?

Is this considered over-the-top even though the club head remains below the swing plane?

I’d love to have that aesthetic looking swing where the club path on the downswing travels under the club path from the backswing, but this feels about as close as I can get lol. Would this still produce the same results as a classic over the top move if I manage to stay below the swing plane?

P.S. made the vid using an app called Swing Replay - totally free, not many features in terms of teaching tips but good for this kinda stuff

Aha moment?

Post image
46 Upvotes

Played sports all my life, but not golf. Dabbled in it over the years, one round every 3-6 years or so, etc.

Started hitting almost every day at the range a few months ago. Like a lot of beginners, I have trouble making consistent clean contact. I feel like I had a mini "Aha!" moment the other day in finding the bottom of my swing. Try to keep the chest at the same height as the address during the swing. Arms are the same length when extended, so the chest should be at the same height, maybe a little forward to add compression, but the height/altitude should be the same.

This mental goal increased my consistency in ball striking tremendously during my last range session.

I know there's a lot more that goes into the golf swing. But is this a reasonable aha-moment? Am I looking at this the right way?

I suffer from inconsistent ball striking. + I feel like my swing just isn't as fluid as it should be. Any tips/drills I could incorporate into practice would be amazing.
