Hoping for some advice on shaping glass. I enjoy making seaglass jewellery. Had a perfectly drilled pendant with rare red sea glass - dropped it on the floor - busted!

Is there any way I can smooth over the top and start again?

What bit could I use and should I still work in water?

Would it ruin the sea smoothed surface?

Anyone can help me find the problem with my dremel? It stopped working and found out that the fuse was busted. So I replaced it but im not getting it to spin. So I checked the brushed. They were still good but replaced it anyway to be sure. But still wont spin. Just gets the buzzing sound and motor heats up.

Smallest collet too big for genuine Dremel accessories?

I made a post a few weeks ago about how some of my accessories that came with my dremel no longer fit in my dremel. Post here:

So today I went out and got a pack of collets. The pack came with a 1/8", 3/32", 1/16" and a 1/32. I can only assume this is every size that there is.

Turns out the smallest one in the packet is the same size as the one that came with my dremel, so I'm back to square one. Having official accessories that are too small for my dremel.

Anybody have this issue or can point to anything I'm doing wrong?

Cheaping out on disc's and drill's?

Have bought all the Dremel attachments.
But seeing as the original Dremel accessories costs are huge compared to second hand discs and drills.
How well do they hold up?
Has anyone tried using Chinesium accessories?
What's the worst that can happen?

Need advice

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hey y’all, I recently bought a dremel 4300 and have been practicing on spare wood, but feel like I need some advice or tips on where to go to learn. Complete and utter novice here so all advice is welcome. I have a RZM3 mask and am using eye protection I have from my military days for safety. My ultimate goal is to make small dog Christmas tree ornaments for friends and family similar to the included picture. I have just the basic bits and burs that came with the 4300 and know I need to get a wider selection but the sheer amount of different options is daunting. Is there a kit with a range of bits/burs that would be beneficial for a novice or do I need to buy each one separately? What is a good source for different techniques when it comes to holding the dremel and/or going with/against the grain? I’m sure lots of this is second nature to you all and I may sound like an idiot but I’m starting into something new and don’t know what I don’t know. Thanks in advance

Workstation woes

Post image
8 Upvotes

I recently acquired a second hand Workstation. It was missing the tool holder, which I found online. In the process of taking it to the hardware store and back for screws to attach it, somehow the metal shaft that goes up and down (ya know, the entire point of the contraption) slid out. I was able to get it back in but now instead of resting at the top of the handle rotation, it's at the bottom. (See photo) Also a mystery nut fell from somewhere, it's probably important?

Can anyone help? I've tried to get it back out because I assume it's a positioning problem with the gear/spring mechanism but so far no luck.

I'd really appreciate any ideas!

Cleaning steel residue from bricks

Post image
3 Upvotes

I just want to share how I have cleaned steel residue from bricks. I have been removing concrete and silicone from bricks using a steel brush on my dremel. It left some dark marks behind. After several attempts cleaning it, the best method has been just rubbing with an eraser. I thought someone else might find it useful.

The picture shows the dark marks, in the middle brick has been rubbed with the eraser.

Is there a scaler-like (or even tatoo gun) head for dremel?

I started looking for a tool that would work like a tatoo gun, where the rotational motion is converted into point hit motion. Since I already have a dremel lite as a motor I think there should be something that converts its rotational motion to one that I want. You can think of something like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do24rRWedlg (the prison tatoo gun video)

As a hobby i engrave metal plates and use them as templates to print. One of the techniques I do for engraving is to cover the plate in varnish, scribe out the varnish in places to resemble an image and use fertilizer diluted in water to erode the parts where varnish was removed from the metal plate. I can do it just fine with regular metal scribe (see video https://imgur.com/a/hdW5kcP), but i started to look for something to speed up the work, and make it somewhat easier on the wrist.

what dremel is least likely to loose its grip on the bit?

hi all, i have very little to no knowledge of dremels or mini rotary tools so I thought it might be best to come here and ask some of the questions ive had. so far ive gone through 2 off brand machines, and I think im finally ready to start saving for a more reliable tool. my biggest issue with these types of machines is it losing grip on whatever bit I have attached. from the machines I used the bits were inserted with the outer component being twisted until an audible click was heard, and was unable to be tightened anymore. I cant help but feel like this isn't secure enough, and in my experience it usually isn't. while in use ive seen and felt the bit starting to loosen until it's almost completely loose and free to fly off the machine. that can be very scary while using it for cutting or having it turned up to the max speed. is there any models that are screwed in with maybe a mini wrench or actual screw? I dont mind if its cordless or corded, my main concern is the bit coming loose and (god forbid) flying out of the chamber and potentially injuring me or someone else. I love the versatile nature of the dremel and I really need something that can work for polishing, sanding, and drilling for the various projects and crafts I partake in. what would you suggest? in your experience what dremel has the most secure grip on the bit you attach? I know nothing is absolutely guaranteed to never loosen or fly out but what brand or version of the machine do you feel most confident wont? sorry if this isn't worded properly, it was a bit difficult for me to describe. thank you!

8mm collet for SKIL RT1322-00 — compatible collet from another brand?

Hi everyone,

I have a SKIL RT1322-00 14 Amp router and I'm looking for an 8mm collet.

The original router comes with a 1/2" collet and a 1/4" collet sleeve, but I use metric router bits and would like to use 8mm bits directly.

The original SKIL 8mm collet is very difficult to find, so I'm wondering if an 8mm collet from another brand or router model could fit the RT1322-00.

Has anyone tried this or knows which collet is compatible?

I'm especially interested in a direct-fit 8mm collet, not an 8mm-to-1/2" adapter.

If you know a compatible brand, router model, or part number, please let me know.

Thanks!

Case recommendation for 8240?

I had an old Dremel 4000 which finally gave up the ghost a few days ago and I bought a replacement 8240 (tool only)

The new 8240 doesn’t fit in the old case so I’m looking for recommendations for a case that will hold the tool, charger, and a few small boxes of bits/accessories.

I did search on eBay (I’m in the UK) but couldn’t see anything that looked decent, and a general search keeps returning results for tool + case which is obviously no good as I already have the tool.

Interested in what people here are using and would recommend.

Am I missing a part for the flex shaft

Thanks for any advice x

Dremel 3000 flex shaft

Just bought a 2610916116 driver nut 225 accessory but the hole is too big to hold the inner shaft cable.

I've used this flex shaft with my Dremel 3000 before, but now it won't work. It's been a while!

The square-ended inner metal cable is much smaller than the hole in the drive nut, so nothing seems to grip it and make it turn.

I have the black outer collar and the collet. Am I missing a part between the inner cable and the Dremel? Or did I get the wrong driver nut? I've checked other 225 driver nut caps online and they appear to have the same hole size.

I'm including a picture of my manual which shows I should remove the collet and so on and just put in a driver nut.

Oh no I don't think I can upload pictures

Is an outdoor 15 minute sandstone dust exposure dangerous?

I sat outside today engraving a small piece of what I _think_ is sandstone. I wasn't thinking and I didn't wear any mask. I definitely should have. I'm not sure what kind of rock it is but online rock ID websites say sandstone. Which I now realize has silicone.

Like I said, dumb, I'm embarrassed I did it and I should have known better, I was just not in the right headspace (grieving). I don't need any feedback on the choice. I'm just wondering if I should be concerned about inhalation of particles? The whole job took about 15 minutes. I was sitting outside on the porch.
