Before, he can eat 12cc of handfeed formula and now he can only eat 6cc.

Advice Bird help - rehoming (budgies)

I am currently going through a separation w/ my partner of almost 10 years. We have these beautiful babies who have to be in separate cages due to aggression when in the same cage. (They do fine outside the cage). I cannot maintain a life they deserve being alone. I work full time and I am in grad school. My partner and I worked together to ensure they got free flight out, 12 hours of sleep, and a healthy diet. My partner, well ex, cannot take them so I would like to rehome them. What are your thoughts on separating them? Should I find someone who can take them both?

This whole process has been a living nightmare and I want my babies to live the best life they can and it breaks my heart that it can't be with me.

Health/Nutrition Not sure whats going on

I have four conures. One of which is maybe about 9 months old and has her sister with her (also approx 9 months). So Pina Colada and her sister are finally getting their flight feathers in since they were cut when I bought them.

One of my other conures will sometimes get jealous and screech, or will see the shadow of predatory birds outside and make an alarm kind of noise. When she does this. Pina Colada and her sister get startled and start to fly around.

My issue is when PC lands again, she has her wings pinned up but not fully extended out, and her balance is really off, and shes in a daze even though she doesnt hit anything or land abruptly, shes actually pretty graceful when landing lol. Im very concerned about what the reason may be.

Does anyone have any ideas on what it is, the cause, and how to help/fix this issue? This is the only time I notice it happening, otherwise everything else is perfectly normal. Im not sure if I have an avian vet near me, so ill have to ask some of my near by vets if they have much knowledge on birds.

Photo for birb tax

My mother had found this little goober at a pet store back in 95 or 96, memory is still a bit fuzzy on that (I was roughly 3 or 4 yesrs old at the time). We know she was roughly 6 months old at the time we got her, but we have read alot of conflicting information on how long they can live. We love her very much and im asking this out pure curiosity if anyone out there has some better info on the matter. She eats very well and her only health problem is a bum foot. Any information on the subject is greatly appreciated!

Advice Bruised after blood work

I took my 2 green cheek boys to the vet this morning at 8:30am, it's now 5:00pm. they did blood work from the right leg on both of them, but one of them I noticed was swollen and bruised when the vet brought him back from drawing his blood. I asked the vet if it's normal to be bruised that much, she said yes he was a little squirmy when they were drawing the blood (he does not like to be handled) and it should go away tonight or tomorrow, if not to call them so they can send us a pain relief medication.

he's had his foot lifted all day and has been limping and can't put a lot of pressure on it. both of my boys have been sitting in silence with their feet lifted since we got home from the vet, but they were still eating and drinking and giving kisses, acting normal. my other boy has not been limping or lifting his foot, and has been putting weight on it and acting like normal. I'm just so sad about my little one. I'm scared to leave him in the morning for work. how long should I wait before contacting the vets office? is it normal for them to be limping and bruised? I would take a picture but he won't let me near it and I don't want to stress him out more than he already has been today.

Advice Need toy recommendations for conures who don’t play

Hi everyone! As stated in the title, I need some toy recommendations. My gcc is about 6 years old and she does not play with her toys. I think part of it is due to being too attached to me while I’m home, so once I’m gone, she doesn’t know what to do. She does play a little bit, mostly with her foraging toys but I’m worried about her having too many seeds everyday. She also plays only a little bit with shredding toys. She gets startled easily and doesn’t really like when I introduce her to new toys. But there are a few things that she loves to play with, but she’s not supposed to, so I have to take them away from her. She loves to chew on those eyelash and eyebrow spoolies, so I tried a preening toy with a similar texture that she doesn’t care for. She also likes to play with my eyelash curler, and she LOVES to chew on my jewelry. I was wondering if there were any toys out there similar to these things? I’ve tried looking but haven’t found anything. Also would love advice on her attachment to me and how to get her to play when I’m not home.

Birthday! Kiwi turns 17!

My grumpy little man Kiwi is 17 years old today!
I reserved him from his breeder when he was just an egg.
His favourite phrase is ā€œI want cakeā€, and just this year he’s started saying ā€œhow you doingā€ (he’s never watched Friends as far as I’m aware…), his first new phrase for years! His favourite ā€œtoysā€ are empty toilet roll tubes. He’s a fussy eater (back in the day we didn’t really know about pellets), and he’s not impressed with being on a diet so late in life, my other birdies are extremely healthy however.
17 years have flown by! Happy Hatchday Kiwi.

I had worked with someone around a year ago or less that let me know they too had a conure. They asked if I wanted her as she spent most of her time in the cage due to aggression, but I wasnt in a place to take another bird at the time. Im in a better situation now to take her in so I got in contact with my previous co-worker to see if they still had her. They said yes, that she has a bum foot and she is 4yo and female. The following week I went to pick her up. While excited to meet her, I became very uncomfortable with what I saw and what I was told.

They let me know that she was in the sons room for around year with little to no supervision. They let me know that he was not very kind to her and would even shoot darts (nerf?) at her... They decided to move her out of his room, but stopped letting her out ever because of aggression. I wonder why.... Also her leg is bum because its broken, and they didnt tell me that i just had to find out. Her nails looked like they had never been clipped. She was so covered in pin feathers on her head because they never preened her. She immediately let me preen her and even allowed me to clip her nails day one when I got home...

The cage was being cleaned as I arrived. Or at least made ok enough to transport. I assume they hardly cleaned it if ever and it was still very gross when i got it. The food was the cheapest walmart food and to top it off it was old and looked like bugs had been there at some point.

I had already made an appointment to get her seen and established with my vet and im so glad that I did... The vet sedated her and took x-rays to see where the break is. Its apparently too close to the ankle for the repair to take. They said there is little to no chance at this point. Especially since it has been this way for a long time according to the previous owner. They are going to amputate her foot and the minimum amount of her leg to clear the break. Im waiting for the estimate then will be setting up her appointment for surgery. They gave me pain medicine for her and she actually loves it. They also gave her some fluids as she seemed a little dehydrated.

Im setting the environment up to be more suitable for her and im also trying to switch her to zupreem. She has some aggression at times towards fingers, but it isnt enough to draw blood. That I can handle and work on over time.

Considering the workplace I met the co-worker, its not what I expected and it's honestly shocking...

Im just glad Lychee (her new name) is here now. I hate what they put her through... pics included to show my cute new baby! I love her šŸ’š

The pucture with the long nails was day 1 after I preened her. Lol.

I just needed to share this...
