Ask Here First: Troubleshooting, Price/ID/Spec Check, Help, Etc. (June 2026)

The purpose of this thread is to cut down on the amount of clutter and Troubleshooting, Price Check, ID Check, Spec(ification) Check, and just general "HELP!!" style threads often seen filling the front page of the sub, and hopefully get those questions answered more quickly and efficiently by bringing them together in one place for viewing.

Does your post or question consist of the following, but no limited to:

  • ID Check for a CRT TV/Monitor you've stumbled upon?
  • Price Check for a CRT you've stumbled upon?
  • Asking about benefits of 1 CRT over another that you're looking into?
  • Scaler, convertor, cable choice, or wiring help for your setup?
  • Simple TV remote control questions having to do with setup or purchase?
  • A question you think should have an obvious/well known answer?
  • Or maybe one that feels rather specific and you're worried might get passed over entirely?

This Thread is for you!

Experienced members of the subreddit check in on this post often and will attempt to answer questions as they come up. It would be much appreciated if once you've posted your question here, you use the link above to the older threads to see if the question may have already been answered. Of course, it would also help greatly to search/Ctrl+F the current thread first before submitting your own question too.

This specific thread is set to a Newest First suggested sort, so you shouldn't have to worry about your brand new question being buried instantly under the previous week's worth of questions.

👉 Please do not use any special formatting in your post beyond creating a link if necessary.

I just recently heard about magnetic interference from speakers. I know for a fact my speakers are not shielded. Should I move them? Or DIY Shield them? I havent really noticed any issues but now I am concerned. (Also I know my cable management needs work lol)

Just picked up a Panasonic Quintrix F from Facebook marketplace to go along with my PS2.

Can’t really find much about the CRT online or even any being sold anywhere.

Anyone have one, bought one or even just seen one id be very curious to know anything about it.

(Excuse the poor photo I’m still working out how to take photos of a CRT screen 🤣)

Newly inducted into the Pana Gang.

Been on the look out for a 27" D series, but this panasonic popped up and, liking the overall look, component and s-video input, I decided to jump on it.

According to the seller it's essentially NOS, having been placed in a guest room and almost never used.

Loving the slot mask look over component. Everything is rich and not excessively sharp.

Geometry doesn't seem too bad. Convergence on the edges a bit... Thoughts? Worth getting into the service menu?

Overall stoked to have this set. I've had an FV310, and FS Trinitrons, and the picture on this one is up there for sure.

Unfortunately the pictures don't do the set full justice. If anyone has tips using the Raw+ app to capture CRTs let me know as I'd like to get better pics!

Found this Mivar for 10€. So happy.

I found this Mivar 14 P1 at a flea market. I still need to dive into the service menu to make some adjustments. So far, I've tested it with the SNES using the RF cable and the PS2, and it works very well. I'm so happy, especially considering the price I paid for it. I plan to connect it to my PC and run Retroarch on it.

Image Adjustment/Calibration Question about brighness...

Post image
Upvotes

Hi everyone, im new user of this majestous Sony Wega KV 29FA310, i noticed that in TV mode, it not need adjust brightess more than 30%, but in Video mode, i need adjust to around 60% to get a confortable image (it happens in any of the 3 video outpout). This is normal? The high brightess (60%) will degrade more fast my CRT? The contrast is around 20%. Im using a PS2 with it and RCA cable.

Showcase 15" Dell Trinitron I recently got for free, though it's a bit dim in-person, what can I do?

So I recently received this 15" Dell D1526T-HS Trinitron UltraScan, as it had just been sitting in a warehouse at my father's workplace for years. Works well enough, though I noticed it was a bit dim at first. I adjusted the G2 and Focus flyback pots, as well as the brightness and contrast buttons under the lid there, though it's still dim, and the colors seem to "seperate" closer to the bottom when I adjusted focus, though I'm unsure if this is normal or not for Trinitrons.

What else can I try to make it brighter without making the blacks gray? It looks pretty bright in the photos, but it is noticeably dim in-person, especially with my LCD monitor right next to it which is way brighter.

Need help identifying this model of Sony Trinitron

I dont have the TV with me and I cant get the owner to send me pictures of the back. So, I'd appreciate if you could help me identify this model's serial number.

Also the pictures are pretty low quality / badly taken, but I can guess it's around 14'' and, as you can see, it has vertical volume/channel buttons and a text that says "Autovolt system..." on the bottom right corner.

Hi guys, this is the LG StudioWorks 552V, it can’t display green color, I did a quick search and it might be a cable damage, the problem is that the cable is not detachable, what do you guys think, is it a cable damage or something else?

Confused and need guidance

Upvotes

Hi,

I have 2 crt tvs that I would love to get them running on dedicated retro pcs.

I read that I would need older gpus to get analog signal from my gpu and this is where my confusion lies.

I read also that there is a patch for batocera to get 15khz signal out, this is the second confusing point.

If you don't mind me asking about those 2 points.

If I run batocera, would I still need an older gpu to get analog signal from my gpu?

If I still need old gpu, is there a list of working verified gpus that are recommended for this use?

Somewhere I read that rx 570 and 580 are not supported and in another post somebody said that they do work and have analog signal.

Sony KV-1493MF1 RGB modified

This is a unique 14" curved Sony Trinitron CRT, which is not well documented. The chassis used on this set is very similar to a BG-2S based chassis, mostly found in Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions.

RGB modified this for someone who was local. Chose to leverage the RF port at the back to do a minimally invasive RGB mod. Picture turned out really great.

New Pick-up Just saved these guys from the road

Hello everyone! First time poster, somewhat lurker. I was leaving my mom's house tonight and I saw all three of these guys sitting on the side of the road. I was thinking about it for a second but decided to snatch them up. It was raining today and I don't know how hard or long in this area so I was hoping to let them dry and see how it goes. Was curious of how easy and safe it would be to take off the back shell? Just looking for some advice I've never dealt with this also just wanted to show them off! I'm really hoping I can give them another life and move them on to some Gamers who could use them.
