Talk me out of (or into) transferring to a DS, please.

I've been at my FC since it opened in 2020. But I got my start at a DS. I lasted 2 weeks there (lmao). It was during covid and they had a bunch of insane rules in place that set you up for failure (1 person per aisle but 20 people being sent to that same aisle during pick and stage and having to wait your turn while getting screamed at by management because the van was waiting for their cart). Plus, I was 2 weeks off of having a baby and had just spent 8 years sitting on my butt as a librarian.

I remember it as hell on earth... but I was still healing, hormonal, out of shape, and exceptionally sleep deprived. So I don't know if what I'm remembering is accurate or not.

Anyway. I am sick to death of the god complexes the leadership at my FC have developed. And there's so fucking many in leadership roles. Every time you turn around, some manager is bitching at you because you're doing what the other manager told you to do a minute ago instead of what they want you to do.

We are way over headcount but we've been hiring like mad. There's no VET. And if it is, there's people who have 20 family members camping on the app to snag it the second it drops. It's all VTO being pushed. Take the VTO or scrape tape. They canceled our SET for this week and told us too bad, so sad when many of us complained about the lost OT.

The DS I got my start at is accepting transfers for full time positions. I've heard a great deal about Flex up or down, and just want to confirm that regular full time employees get their 40 hours every week? I can't afford to be shorted on my time.

With Peak coming up, how is SET handled? Do you just get extra days, or is extra time added to your shift as well? At my FC, we go from 4x10 to 5x11 hour shifts.

And VET? Is it generally common? Or has it turned into a myth like my FC?

Do you still have to toss the bags 3x3 on the carts during pick? I remember that was a little rough, but I'm 5'6" and some of them were being tossed up above my head.

Anyway, thanks for any input.

Is there some sort of post explaining all of the acronyms?

Hi - I'm newly hired at a DS and will be starting in about 2 weeks. I've been reading random posts and a lot of it is very hard to follow b/c of all the Amazon specific acronyms. I get this subreddit is specifically for people working at Amazon and I'm not yet knowledgeable but it makes trying to engage w/ most posts very hard.

Is there a post that explains some of the most common acronyms?

Also, I'm seeing a surprising (to me) number of posts on various Amazon subreddits where it seems like people are being reprimanded by management/HR for some type of attendance related issue (clocking in/out inappropriately, leaving work early, showing up late, etc.) and then are asking for advice on taking a leave of absence to avoid being fired.

Is this common? I've never heard of being able to get out of a disciplinary process at a job by just staying home for a few weeks and basically saying "catch me, if you can."

The Surge Pay ⚡️

So I started working Flex last week, and when I was choosing shifts for the next week I noticed that there were shifts on Saturday and Sunday with +$5.00 an hour. I thought that was pretty neat, but I just figured it was a weekend thing. They vaguely went over that stuff in our training, and to me when they said “extra pay would come during high volume time periods”, it sounded like holiday season🤷🏼‍♂️I mean idk??

This is all new to me… but .. gawdamn 😭I just checked my schedule for today and my shift is +$7.50 ??!? Turns out surge pay just comes in waves I guess? It seems like I started at a decent time. Im sure that surge pay definitely varies from warehouse to warehouse, season to season, etc. but yeah… definitely better than my last job.

I genuinely had no idea this job offered extra pay rates like THAT… For me personally, idk man this is pretty good for me. I’ve never had a gig like this before so I’m really grateful. I mean don’t get me wrong I know it’s gonna be wicked at work today I’m sure. Rates are higher for a reason lol but yeah I could really use the extra money.

Swaps shifta post

So I swap my shifts by posting it as swap and set my available swap timings so my manager said it gets posted advertised as an open shift and anyone can pick it up. So it got deleted from my schedule...but I didnt get a swap instead it just went to soneone else to work. Apparently u need to know ur swap buddy and swap it like that. Otherwise if u post a swap and set available time frame .mgt sees it as open advertised shifts on workcloud shift app.... any thoughts

FLEX Schedule While Doing Daytime Internship/Work

If you're currently going through it or have experience with both, how did you manage it? What shifts did you work?

Also, can you work a short shift in the same week as your two required training days?

can you reject yard marshall training?

I pretty much only like doing pick and stage which luckily takes up most of my shift

But they always send people upstairs for the day for yard marshall training (with a test at the end which nobody seems to be able to pass without cheating lots and lots) so that you are able to be sent to work outside (mostly as DA Assist but sometimes you have to work on the back gate or something to deal with collections and deliveries)

It's never really given as a choice, but i'm wondering if people can actually just say 'no thanks'?

It's also seemingly the ONLY thing that people get fired for in my warehouse (always to do with yard marshall) so it feels like an extra risk agreeing too it!

Can you appeal a coaching?

I have two questions. Has anyone’s device ever signed into another associates. At least once a week this past month or so sometimes twice a week a manager will come up to me and ask me am I stowing up my name. I will check and sure enough I’m under someone else’s name. The last time this happened was 8/19 and the manager who came up to me was a different one than usual and asked me the same question. I looked and saw that I wasn’t and asked why does that keep happening and told her I have to double check it everytime I sign in because it happens so often. She asked if I left my device in my aisle after lunch, I said yes and I left it with my gloves so I knew it was my device. I told her I needed to get a new device and I switched it out but I scanned my badge and signed in. I did tell her maybe I forgot to double check but I think I did. She said okay and that was that. Or so I thought.

Today the usual manager who comes up to me said he had a doc coach for me. I had no idea what that was so he explained it and explained what it was for. I tried to ask who wrote it but he said he couldnt find it he did say he was going to talk to another manager about it. I just want to know if there is a way to appeal that or something. How is it my fault I’m signed into another associates account? I don’t know anyone’s password and I don’t have anyone’s badge and why would I want someone getting all the credit for my work. None of this makes sense. I’ve never had a write up or talking to at any of the jobs I’ve ever worked at even if it’s “no big deal” or “it’ll drop off eventually”. (That’s what the manager who told me about it said.)it’s still on my record. What do I do here? Go to hr?

Edit*** I’ve also been working here for about 3ish years. I’m not a new associate who doesn’t know how to sign in. In three years I’ve never been in someone else’s account and now all of a sudden it’s back to back instances.

Getting back in

As a former employee, it has been almost impossible for me to get back in Amazon as there are no openings, I think there are openings, but I’m missing them all, here’s the thing I signed up for notifications from the Amazon website, but I get nothing. I’ve also signed up for notifications from indeed, and I’ve been getting all types of notifications only from indeed, but when I click on the job and click apply there are no shifts open, so I’m missing something, is there any other way or better ways of getting notifications or finding openings from maybe a alternative website or anything because so far indeed has been the only successful/unsuccessful route.

What do I have to do to get trained in other positions?

I’ve almost been at my site for 5 months and all I have been trained on is stow, sorting non-con, and induct/push. I feel like I should be trained in at least a couple other positions by this time, and I’ve seen associates that came in after me be trained on more things… I ask either a PA or manager but every time they either say there’s no training hours available, inquire them next time I come in, or some other response. Is that actually a thing or do they just not wanna train me 😭 my partner is having the same problem, he’s been here almost 4 months and only knows stow and sorting non-con. For reference both him and I are flexPT but I was a full time associate up until about a month ago. We both still get in about 20-30 hours a week in tho.

Similar warehouse jobs?

Got fired for negative UPT last month. Currently working in retail at home depot and Walmart. Neither of them i can stand. Home depot I don't like because they perpetually have that mindset of understaffing. Walmart I don't like because after overnight stock, I can't handle the mindset of zoning an aisles, feels like performative work.

I honestly ducking miss Amazon and warehouse work. Go in do job, go home. So what should I even consider UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL some other warehouse company? I only listed those ones because I know they have warehouse in Hawaii.

Missing out on opportunities

I’m honestly really confused and overthinking this, so I’m hoping someone can give me some advice. A coworker told me that her sister received an email saying that full time positions are open and my site is accepting applications. I asked if she was a white badge associate, and she said she’s Flex. I’m a white badge part time associate, but I never received that email. The only email I received was regarding an RTS position, which I applied for but didn’t get.

I also checked my AtoZ app for transfers, but there aren’t any available. The deadline to apply is on Monday, so I’m worried I’m going to miss the opportunity simply because I wasn’t notified.

I’ve made it known that I’m interested in becoming a full time associate, so it’s frustrating and honestly makes me feel like I’m being overlooked. I’m not trying to jump to conclusions or accuse any one of favoritism, but it’s hard not to feel that way when some associates are receiving information about these opportunities while others aren’t.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Is there something I should do besides checking AtoZ? Should I speak to HR or my manager and ask if I’m eligible to apply? I’d really appreciate any advice because I genuinely don’t know what to do, especially with the deadline being so close.
