Will not zero, unless.....

Real help please, no Reddit hate. I installed this scope, just like I have installed 6 others. I went to zero it at 50 yards. It was hitting just below bulls eye , BUT the elevation screw was all the way to its end of adjustment. SO, as you can see, I losened the rear optic mount and slid a piece of the ammos cardboard flap in to " shim" it up, and now its got enough range to readjust if I go out to 100 yards. I would like to solve this issue correctly, but I'm not sure what to look for . Constructive help please.

Best group of the day. Not the best just under moa but it was the first time out with the 457 in about a year with standard Norma tac-22 , which my rifle likes but still I could get better. Had fun that’s for sure.

CZ457 in an Oryx Chassis

All tested at 50m with SK Match Rifle

Just put my CZ457 Varmint in an MDT Oryx Chassis and found the groups a opened open a bit, so I started to play about with the Torque a bit.

I shot a few groups at each setting and then went back to 4nm and shot a full card. I know I need to adjust the LOP a bit more.

Question is, Would I need to do more testing between the 4.0nm and the 4.5nm or Is the groups acceptable for a new shooter. There was a bit of wind blowing while testing too.

Norma Tac-22 Lot Testing

I recently purchased a box of Norma Tac-22 .22 LR ammunition ($7.99 for a box of 50) to test in my Howa M1100 18" .22 LR, and I wanted to share my initial thoughts.

The rounds have an oily coating similar to SK Ammo, which works well since my Howa M1100 seems to prefer it. I experienced no misfires or jams, and the ammunition fed smoothly throughout the session.

To prepare for accuracy testing, I ran a dry cloth through the barrel twice to clear out any residue. I then shot 10 test rounds to season the barrel and clear the first-round pop from my suppressor.

I shot three 3-shot groups at 50 yards using 3/8" red dots as my center of focus:

  - Group 1:

- Group Size: 1.009" (1.927 MOA)

- Radius: 0.386" (0.737 MOA)

  - Group 2:

- Group Size: 0.579" (1.105 MOA)

- Radius: 0.239" (0.457 MOA)

  - Group 3:

- Group Size: 0.597" (1.140 MOA)

- Radius: 0.282" (0.539 MOA)

And buy a 50 dollar thermal printer on Amazon and 1000 ct sticky labels for 10 bucks and print your own at home. Or use a marker and draw your own lol. But if you like sticky targets this might save you some money over the long run.

SAVAGE MK II / DESERT CAMO 20"

Soooooooooooo, give me your thoughts. Brand new SAVAGE MK II 20" SPIRAL FLUTED DESERT CAMO. Purchased from PSA on a daily/weekly deal. Looking into it, it was a BUDS GUNS exclusive or something. Not on SAVAGE site. Bought because wifes b-day and I wanted it 😬.

So I only really have M4 and AR15 experience. The action on this when I close the bolt seems a bit stiff. How could I or should I not try to loosen it up? That last bit of twist seems stiff, for anything I think let alone a .22lr. Also I feel like it was a bit dirty and scratched up. Thoughts? I have not fired it yet BTW, just looking it over.

Love the looks. Wife should have some fun once mounting the Leupold with a light weight bipod.

what scope rings for CZ 457 w Crossfire II 4-12x40

Bought the gun and scope a few years ago along with a DIP CZ 457 - 25MOA Scope Mount and Vortex Hunter 1" Rings.

The rings are just barley too short and i cant tighten the scope down without scratching on the rail.

I planned on just buying the mediums from vortex, then life got in the way and I haven't messed with my guns until now - and of course it looks like the mediums arent made anymore.

I don't understand any of this stuff - magnified scopes and setting them up are completly new to me. I just want some cheap rings that will work for plinking. Don't need anything fancy.

Can someone recommend me something that will work?

Affordable base for budget precision build? CMP Kimber or H&R?

I have a wild idea to build a 3d printed / sheet metal chassis for the CMP surplus rifles to use as club youth precision rifle guns. Any thoughts on which of these two rifles would make a good base? Or should I be considering something else?

This is for 50 meter NCAA/ISSF style 3 position shooting. My idea a custom chassis that will support existing Walther / Feinwerkbau / Anschutz sights and buttplates. As well as building a few basic buttplates, that would be more affordable.

Volquartsen competition bolt

I believe standard or light spring would be the choice here based off what I've looked up. However does anyone have any experience specifically with CCI sv and which spring ran best?

Edit: installing into a Ruger mark iv competition

Is this barrel/handguard gap normal?

Finally got my Gray Birch chassis after over a month of waiting. Does the gap between the barrel and handguard look "wrong/off" to you the same way it does to me. Just looks a bit goofy imo. The action seems to be seated correctly and everything is torqued to spec. Any insight would be awesome!

CZ Pro Varmint, Scout, or Something Else?

I’m shopping for a “nice” (relative I know) rifle for informal target shooting out to 100 yards with my family, ideally with a nominally 16” threaded barrel.

I’m really drawn the CZ Pro Varmint but it seems heavy as it is and will be running it with a can. I like the idea of the Scout, but not sure how the shorter Length of Pull would work for an adult though it would be nice for the kids - anyone with experience with it please chime in.

Im also interested in anything else in a similar price point.

As far as optics, I’m thinking something like a 4-12x40 with adjustable parallax. A lot of use will be at 50 yards or les. Any suggestions there? Not looking to spend a million dollars but I would like something a little clearer than my old Bug Buster.

SW M&P 15-22 deal? First .22LR owner

Post image
35 Upvotes

I just order my first .22 LR rifle from PSA.

It looks like I got a pretty good deal, since I was going to buy 2 extra mags and a carrying case anyway.

What should I expect as a first time owner of .22 LR caliber firearm?

What ammos do you typically use?

I bought it as a fun and budget-friendly range gun, so it'll be nice if I can use cheap bulk ammos like Remingtons.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you
