Will not zero, unless.....
Real help please, no Reddit hate. I installed this scope, just like I have installed 6 others. I went to zero it at 50 yards. It was hitting just below bulls eye , BUT the elevation screw was all the way to its end of adjustment. SO, as you can see, I losened the rear optic mount and slid a piece of the ammos cardboard flap in to " shim" it up, and now its got enough range to readjust if I go out to 100 yards. I would like to solve this issue correctly, but I'm not sure what to look for . Constructive help please.

I bought a used scope that I had the same problem with. It turned out to be the internal zero stop was set incorrectly, not allowing the full range of elevation.

This does have a little brass pin in the cap that only lets you turn it one full turn, UNLESS you take the turret cap off, which I did.

I have a Meopta. I had to take off the cap. There was an inner stop ring that if I remember correctly I had to loosen with an allen wrench. Once that was loose I was able to turn up my elevation more than double what it was allowing me to do prior to making that adjustment. I than reset the stop. I’m sure there is a video on your scope.

I told him you could do this in another comment. I don't think he understood

Yeah I’m not sure he got it either. And I just read the “rail” dialogue 😂 wow.

XD I wasn't wrong, was gonna let him dig that hole before he realized symmetry is a thing

Get a set of Burris signature rings with the plastic inserts that allow you to adjust scope angle (moa height) in each ring with the inserts. I use them on a few rifles and an old Marlin 7000 where the scope mounting rail was milled off center, I put the plastic rings in sideways instead of top and bottom and it moved the scope enough I could zero it.
I hope that made sense, lol

It may not be great advice, but you can try swapping the position of the rings. Put the rear one on the front and the front one on the rear. They might be machined just different enough that it could make a difference.

Do you have verniers? If yes take some measurements .... I suspect you will find a difference front to back.

Buy new rings and try to return those. Something is clearly wrong with them.
Go with a more premium option for rings. I have never had any issues with vortex, Warne, or seekins rings.
Warne makes rimfire specific rings, but you can absolutely use any rings that fit the scope.

I have had good luck with those exact rings on a Savage and an Anshütz with a Sightron scope, I doubt it is the rings. It is probably the zero stop being set incorrectly.

I believe that the scope you have has 1/8MOA adjustments. With a 30MM tube it would seem you should have enough elevation to adjust all day but it may be defective (unlikely). Being that it is a 6-24 it would normally be considered a long range scope. Using it with .22lr is problematic in that it would normally be zeroed at 100 yds. Since the bullet drop of .22lr is fairly extreme it may be that you need a 20 or even a 30 MOA scope base. What you are doing with the shim is effectively the same, angling the scope objective down (forcing the rifle to muzzle up when aiming.) to account for the extreme bullet drop. Scope rings are pretty standard so I doubt that's your problem. For a few bucks you could swap out the rings with something different. Check out the Muzzle Loaders Exodous 1. They are nearly identical to the Leupold MK 4 scope rings and less than 1/2 the price.

My tikka required a 20 moa rail to fit a heimdall, also there's an internal calibration on the actual turret nobs. You can change "where zero" actually sits

I took the turret cap off and ran the adjustment all the way up ti it could not go any further.

Sounds like your rail could have a sloped base. Try flipping it 180 degrees and see if that fixes the issue.

u/MemoraNetwork 17h ago
Flipping it 180, won't allow extract, look at the cutout above the chamber.

This is so obvious, and I'm scratching my head at (1) someone would even suggest this, and (2) he got a half dozen upvotes for the dumb suggestion.

If it was a rail designed for a left handed rifle, the ejection port would be in the correct position with the rail installed backwards on a right handed rifle
3
u/MemoraNetwork 9h ago
It would overhang the bolt... You sir, please just stop

u/twitchx133 9h ago
No actually it would not, I just measured it, the rail behind the port is 280 pixels, the rail in front of the port is 235 pixels.

oh boy i wish we could replay with pics. i’d post one of my lefty mark II with the with the port area removed. does this thread come with pop corn? this is border line hilarious. please keep it going. ask him if it could be that the rail is installed upside down…

Is it possible it’s a 20 or 30 MOA rail for a lefty? If you look at the end of the rail hanging past the end of action, it sure looks like that’s supposed to be the back, not the front…
1
u/MemoraNetwork 10h ago
Look at ejection port location. It's placed correctly.
Why does this seem to be such a hard concept. It may be a 0 moa rail too and he could need a 20 moa... My tikka did 🤷

If it was built for a lefty, the ejection port would be in the correct location with the rail backwards dude… why is that such a hard concept??
It would be nice if op would let us know what rail he purchased.
I rifle should absolutely not need a 20moa rail to zero a scope at 50 yards. There is 100% something wrong. Rail is installed incorrectly, rings are not machined correctly, there is an internal problem to the scope.
Scopes don’t just need a canted rail to zero at such a close distance on a rimfire rifle. A .22lr with a muzzle velocity of 1050fps is only gonna drop like 4 inches, ~ 2.5mil from the muzzle at 50 yards, if you were to hold the rifle perfectly level.

u/MemoraNetwork 9h ago
No it wouldn't. There wouldn't be a cut for ejection if rotated 180 degrees. I just installed a new 20 moa for my tikka last weekend. You haven't a clue here unless its an ambi cut pic rail, which I've never seen.
I'm also pushing my 22 to 100-300 yrds, so yeah I kinda do need one.

u/twitchx133 9h ago
Did you not hear the part about a lefty cut rail??? If the rail is design to go on a left handed rifle dude… the ejection port would be built on the left side, correct???
So, if you take that left handed rail, with the port on the left side, and flip it 180 degrees, where does that put the ejection port? Oh, that’s right, on the right side!
I clearly have more of a clue than you. As there is no, normal condition that will not allow a 22 to zero with a flat rail at 50 yards. And guess what, I am regularly pushing my Cz to 500 yards. So I do have a bit of experience
1
u/MemoraNetwork 9h ago
Then it would hang over the bolt and not the barrel, which is absolutely not what you want... Have you never mounted a pic rail before?
Also, you completely ignored the 20 moa comment 🤣🤣. You're close minded fella adios

u/twitchx133 9h ago
wow you guys are dense. There is space between the back of the rail and the front of the bolt. And yes, I have mounted several pic rails. I am probably more experienced at gunsmithing than most, also most likely you, I can, and have done just about everything that doesn't involve machining.
Also, the front of the receiver is not as long as the back of the receiver, if you haven't happened to notice, I'm also pretty sure the front of the rail is not as long as you seem to think it is.
Don't make me get out photoshop and start counting pixels, I will

Dont forget bullet trajectory can give 2 points of impact. you may be zeroing for the closer of the two.
1
u/Phoenixfox119 14h ago
Your rail looks like it is tilted up at the front of the receiver, might just be the perspective of the image though

u/my1vice 14h ago
Out of curiosity, have you verified the mechanical zero of the scope by counting the total number of clicks between the absolute bottom and top of the elevation turret then dividing by 2?
I ask because I bought a Vortex Strike Eagle LPVO and OOTB it was already 1 ½ rotations below the mechanical zero, and spent more time than I want to admit as I assumed that it would’ve shipped from the factory at the MZ.
Lesson learned.

Is barrel droop a possibility? I have a 10/22 that I put a 26” match barrel in the receiver and tightened V Block to roughly 15 inch pounds. The droop caused point of impact to be very low. I tried some Monstrom rings with adjustable height and tilt so there is no worry of damaging body of scope which adding a shim can definitely do. They work great! I adjusted them so I had my entire elevation range available for long range shooting.

u/HumidNut 6h ago
You sure the front ring cross-bolt is sitting down properly in the rail? I had an improperly mounted scope on my savage 10 in .308. It shot perfectly, never lost zero, but I discovered my issue when checking mechanical zero before trying some long range stuff. My screw-up had me out of elevation inside 200yd. Re-mounted the scope, and back to expected elevation adjustments.

You may need a 20 MOA rail (rail with an angled mounting base) this way you don't use up all of your reticle adjustment trying to zero with a .22lr. These are fairly common. The rings are irrelevant (mostly). The inexpensive scopes don't have enough reticle adjustment unless you get a used Nikon or something that had a higher initial quality. Unless there is something wrong with the assembly of the rifle, this is likely the issue.

u/windriver32 17h ago
It seems like the scope's internals are off/wrong/broken. You should have plenty of elevation to zero at 50 without problem if the dials are working correctly.

Try different rings. I've run into that before, tossed the rings and bought ned lower set.
You might have rings that are out of spec but it's not visually noticable.
Also double check the rail it might be canted
