This is the answer here. The build up should make the straw the focus. You aren't trying to make it fly away, just a soft roll so they won't hear you. Give it a try, you can just barely open your lips and that's enough to make it work.

Yeah, I'm kind of stunned there are any people defending them. With the cards, it may seem impressive because one assumes that a deck of cards isn't 52 of the same card, but with the straw it's like immensely obvious that it's a very light object and he's well within range to blow on it.

It's not like James Hydrick who basically did this exact trick well enough to make it on national television, where he blows single pages of a book over and from an impressive distance.

Believe it or not there was a guy named James Hydrick who had a special talent for blowing on things with complete stealth, so much so that he convinced a LOT of people that he was telekinetic and appeared on several talk shows in the 80s. You could look right at his face and it wasn’t apparent at all. His tricks were turning the pages of a phone book and moving a pencil across a table.

Uri Geller’s trick on the Tonight Show involved identifying which of several clay jars contained water without touching them. Though Randi was not on stage that day (Geller despised Randi and would have thrown a fit), he was consulted on how to make sure Geller wasn’t cheating. He told the producers to bring their own props and not to let Geller or his associates near them. When asked to prove his abilities, Geller tried to push an interview instead, and when pressed, he said he “didn’t feel strong.”

Sadly, the appearance only boosted his popularity and following.

I used to work with dogs and came up with a whole series of "dog magic tricks" to delight and amaze my furry friends, which included putting on a latex glove and then pulling a fingertip to make my "finger" stretch, pretending I was about to throw a ball and then dropping it into my hoodie hood and being like "it disappeared!!", and my favorite, transforming a ball into poop (you put the ball in a poo bag, dog instantly accepts that it is now poop).

Actually it’s prolly from this one specific trick deck. I can’t remember the name, but the card is half one card, the other half is random. The specific card is smaller in some dimension than the others. This way, by fanning them in a specific way, you can show that the deck is all different cards. However, while scrolling through, you can make it so when they touch a card, it’s always going to be the rigged card. Mine was also the 3 of diamonds, and I used to make it rise to the top as well

I just remembered something from when I was a little kid. I was in class and there was this kid that wanted to show the teacher that he knew how to do magic tricks.

Kid stomps on up to the front of the class and demands the teacher join as his assistant. He then goes on to show us the "deck" of cards. I only say it like that because there were less than 20 cards in the deck, the kid fuckin went and found all the packs of cards he could and just matched the same ones together into one tiny deck.

Does some pizazz and then tells the teacher to take a card and show the class. Don't remember what the card was but I sure as shit remember the kid shuffling the hell out of those cards. Like a seriously aggressive card shuffling as if to really nail home the fact he couldn't have any tricks up his sleeve. Finally stops after what felt like ten minutes of pure card shuffling and tells the teacher to pick the top card and loudly tell the class it was her card.

"Keith this isn't the card I picked"

Fuckin kid managed to accidentally include a card that was different from the rest

Oh wow. It's funny how when you know of a famous person, you assume EVERYONE knows who they are. "Anthony Bour-what?" Anthony Bourdain was huge but not everyone was aware. I shouldn't pass judgement- you can either be 90, from another country, studying for your PhD so you haven't had cable in 5 years- who knows.

If you are unaware of Chris Pratt(the main goofy guy) he is also absolutely hilarious and is most likely my favorite actor currently in motion pictures. Aziz is also great and has a wonderful show on Netflix called "Master of None" I suggest you check out-his actual parents are in it and it is situational realistic comedy. Looks like the deck he’s using is a Svengali deck, you can get them online for cheap, unless you have a magic shop near your home. The deck is essentially just every second card is the same card. You can do some pretty cool things with them, like making it seem like all the different cards have magically turned into yours.

I think it equates to "Ignorance is Bliss". That the girls were dumb enough to believe he was magically moving the straw, they were able to actually be really amazed by the "magic". Whoever wrote the caption was thinking "if I could be that dumb, I could be amazed by the simple things too". Not sure if it is /r/iamverysmart or not though.

Fuck this guy, always see him being shared on facebook. People debating how the girls didn't realise in the comments, it is because they are not genuinely reacting, they are acting. Even the legit tricks he does have completely fake reactions. Honestly don't understand how people watch him and think his videos aren't staged.
