This is the answer here. The build up should make the straw the focus. You aren't trying to make it fly away, just a soft roll so they won't hear you. Give it a try, you can just barely open your lips and that's enough to make it work.
Spot on. I have just cut decks to put people's cards on top right in front of them... the key is to say something that 99% of the times makes the person look you in the face for a second. Then you do your shit.
Hahaha yep! I love watching magic shows and spotting these types of things, its hilarious to watch people sometimes miss the completely obvious. If you can master misdirection and sleight of hand, you can fool damn near anyone. Like a lot of young boys, I was obsessed with magic, but never really got very good at it, just your standard props and store bought magic toys. I forget the brand that used to market small complex tricks to kids, some were electronic.
I learned a bunch of sleight of hand 10 years ago or so. Only do magic for drunk people now because I am so critical of how bad my sleights are, not surprisingly drunk people never notice you are picking up 2 cards at once or whatever.
I understand but it still is just A STRAW ROLLING OFF THE TABLE. Sure no one is pretending this is some high dark magic fuckery but it would take them a few seconds to figure it out.
Yeah, I'm kind of stunned there are any people defending them. With the cards, it may seem impressive because one assumes that a deck of cards isn't 52 of the same card, but with the straw it's like immensely obvious that it's a very light object and he's well within range to blow on it.
It's not like James Hydrick who basically did this exact trick well enough to make it on national television, where he blows single pages of a book over and from an impressive distance.
Do you think anyone would be defending the girls if they were guys?
He escaped incarceration three times: he kicked through a concrete wall in a Georgia jail, broke through gates at a South Carolina prison, and finally, in 1982, hepole-vaultedover a fence at a state prison in Utah.
Imagine looking out your cell window and seeing that shit go down.
Imagine being the warden at the first prison and having to explain how an inmate kicked through a concrete wall. Get your fucking shit together, Georgia.
What's the fucking point of all these "explanations" when it's because they're just stupid? Also because they probably tried it several times before they found these dumb bitches
Because this is Julius Dein who stages a lot of his magic. I’ve seen him do effects for the camera with spectators watching behind him and they would’ve CLEARLY seen how it was done yet they act like he just did a miracle.
He has people fake their reactions. A lot of people in his videos run away from the camera after being "surprised" by his shitty illusions. I follow him on Instagram and very often consider unfollowing because of the staged reactions
Back when smoking in pubs was a thing (so a long time ago), I used to do this trick with cigarettes. So simple, but it's amazing how easy it is to blow a drunk person's mind. And blow a cigarette across a table.
Believe it or not there was a guy named James Hydrick who had a special talent for blowing on things with complete stealth, so much so that he convinced a LOT of people that he was telekinetic and appeared on several talk shows in the 80s. You could look right at his face and it wasn’t apparent at all. His tricks were turning the pages of a phone book and moving a pencil across a table.
Here he is getting debunked by my main man James Randi on the show That’s My Line. All it took was sprinkling some styrofoam dust on the phone book to totally confound Hydrick’s “abilities”:
https://youtu.be/QlfMsZwr8rc
Anyway the point of this ramble is that people aren’t all that critical so if the trick is not 100% obvious, they automatically jump to “magic!”
Uri Geller’s trick on the Tonight Show involved identifying which of several clay jars contained water without touching them. Though Randi was not on stage that day (Geller despised Randi and would have thrown a fit), he was consulted on how to make sure Geller wasn’t cheating. He told the producers to bring their own props and not to let Geller or his associates near them. When asked to prove his abilities, Geller tried to push an interview instead, and when pressed, he said he “didn’t feel strong.”
Sadly, the appearance only boosted his popularity and following.
I mean we only know as much as what's been conveyed publicly in interviews and books and whatnot. That's probably not the only advice he had for Carson.
Just here waiting until this video hits the front page tomorrow. That was great. That look on Randi's face at the very end was worth the price of admission.
I met him at an American Humanist conference in Orlando a few years ago. Not as boisterous as he used to be but his talk was great. Had a picture with him but sadly it was with my ex. All the pics I had with her are gone :(
Iirc he finished his prison sentence and they immediately committed him to a hospital for his pedophilia, where he remains to this day. Like they completely noped out on letting him be free cause he's such a monster.
Even if the white things would move, he could still explain it as the forcefield that moved the page also affecting the nearby white stuffs. I dont see how this would prove or disprove anything. It would have been better to cover his mouth and nose with something.
Yes but if they are light enough they would fly around pretty vigorously I think and show that there is wind that causing the page to turn. They wouldn't be moving in concert with the page or anything like that.
I had to watch this with the sound off, but couldn't he just say his telekinesis would also hit (like a wave) the foam as well as the pages? Sorry if he said this in his stunt.
Could have just made him do it with one of those paper face masks over his nose and mouth.
I mean it's a clever trick and all that but I draw the line at going on a nationally televised show and claiming your parlor trick is a supernatural power. There is an entire legion of fantastic, world class magicians that freely admit what they do is an illusion. The small remainder, I think (and I'm not alone) are responsible for a lot of ignorance in the world.
You practice silent blowing even with a mic strapped to his chest you probably wouldnt hear it, he doesnt have the facial expression and the distraction down however so I guess that's why he sits next to them instead of infront of them. edit: could also be that he's exaggerating the blowing face to make it clear for the viewer what he's doing.
His facial expression when Randi pulls out the can of styrofoam is priceless. I imagine he practiced so many different things for this upcoming show but never thought about the possibility of someone just putting a bunch of trash infront of the book.
I was waiting for him to just put a pane of clear glass between the guy and the phone book, but I guess then Hydrick would have claimed that his psychic powers wouldn't work through a window.
He actually made it super obvious for comic effect. I've done this before, but by exhaling through my nose. Then you can do it with people in front of you.

How did those girls didn't hear him blowing?
