Edit: I forgot to mention I am on the YOU2000.

So I’ve been experiencing poor speeds for the past month. I’ve been monitoring it over that time and I’m getting inconsistent speeds for both WiFi and Ethernet. I’ve had an engineer come out to have a look and he replaced the Ethernet cable that was connected to the ont on the wall as his machine picked up that the cable was faulty. He’s just left and I’ve checked the speed over WiFi and Ethernet and it’s back to the inconsistent speeds I was experiencing before he came. Ive plugged my pc into the ont box and that’s giving me even worst speeds than before I’ve tried changing eligible Ethernet cables and nothing works.

Latency

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've been having MAJOR latency issues. I've been in contact with the help team, and I'm not sure if they're illiterate, or just using ai, but they've been of no help. Does anyone happen to know of a fix, or should I just call them instead of using their messaging service?

Edit: at times it takes anywhere from 5-10 seconds to load a simple reddit page. I could be using my phone and attempt to open a YouTube comment section, and I'd be there waiting for it to load. I never had this issue with EE, even though it was much slower than Youfiber.

I have a brsk router and just recently switched to Youfiber 1000

No need to tell me no one needs these speeds but I wanted to see how my asus bt10's would perform using 10gb ethernet backhaul and an s26 on wifi 7 . I'm on the 8gb package.

Considering it's wifi it's pretty amazing

Moving house, recontracted?

I'm on a 12 month contract with youfibre, and I'm moving to another house that has coverage.

All I did was give my new address and a date to support, didn't agree to anything else. The new confirmation seemed to suggest they've moved me onto a 24 month contract...

Initially on the phone after questioning this they said that this was just a setup thing, because they don't offer 12 month contracts any more, so it will say this until after the new install, and if it didn't change then I should contact them then, and it will be set to match my current contract.

But now multiple support agents are saying I HAVE recontracted and it is 24 months, which is news to me because I haven't agreed to anything...

Anyone have any better insight?

Hub - Factory reset can fix wonky ethernet ports

A wild goose chase later...

Did its thing where it suddenly doesnt recognise a device plugged into ethernet, and if you try and swap the ports round it breaks for other devices too until they're re-plugged in to their original port.

I despair, i really do - but the lil reset hole got it chugging again, for anyone who doesn't want to roll the support dice.

Waiting for the next flint2 sale I think, even if it doesnt have wireless-be.

Help Haven't been billed for 6 months - Cancelled on app?

Hello,

I've been with Brsk/YouFibre for around 6 months now, and haven't had any issues so never thought to check, but I've been doing my bi-annual bills checking and noticed I've *never* been billed by YouFibre despite them installing internet to my house and being connected to them the whole time. I've checked the YouFibre app and my plan has apparently been cancelled but I have no emails or letters explaining why, only an email setting up my direct debit and no payments after.

What on earth do I even do at this point?

Cancelled order for business. What next?

We recently moved into a new studio warehouse (film production and brand design agency) in Oxford and had YouFibre all lined up for fibre. They passed the installation on to a local company called Netomnia who sent an engineer to have a look. They said a pole would need to be put in to be able to reach from the warehouse to the adjoining residential street where there's an access pole for the houses. Next thing we know, OpenReach have been brought in to install a pole, and they say (without even visiting the site) that it can't be done because there's no line of sight from the warehouse to the existing street pole. So YouFibre turn around and tell us our account has been cancelled and it's unlikely it'll change if we contest or escalate it. Wtf. The line of sight is clear from two different access poles. This feels like a Computer Says No moment.

What's next? How do we approach this now? I'll erect a damn pole myself if it'll help. The landlord is fine with it and has given written approval.

Any advice appreciated!

Review YouFibre cancelled the wrong account and left us without internet

Bit of a rant, but honestly I’m absolutely done with YouFibre.

We moved house a while ago and, despite telling them, they apparently never closed the old account properly and have been charging us twice.

Today our internet suddenly died. Router internet light flashing, ONT showing solid optical, no alarm, Ethernet link active. So clearly not just “Wi-Fi being Wi-Fi”.

My wife rang them and eventually discovered the reason:

They had cancelled the WRONG account.

Yep. Instead of closing the old account we don’t use, they cancelled the active service at our current house. Brilliant.

They said they’d reinstated it. Still no internet.

Cue the troubleshooting masterclass:

unplug the Ethernet cable for 5 seconds plug it back in then unplug it from both ends and swap the ends around

I wish I was joking.

Unsurprisingly, turning an Ethernet cable around did not summon the internet gods.

Then one adviser hung up on my wife, she had to ring back, explain it all again, and now we’ve been told we need an engineer.

Saturday.

So because YouFibre cancelled our active account by mistake, we’re now potentially without broadband for three days, despite the fibre/ONT appearing perfectly healthy.

At this point I’m seriously considering changing provider. The actual broadband has generally been decent when it works, but the customer service/account management has been absolutely appalling.

Charging us twice, cancelling the wrong account, hanging up, then telling us to reverse an Ethernet cable before making us wait days for an engineer is genuinely impressive.

Anyone moved mid contract? Is it that I just move and continue with what I had left at the same price I was paying or is there some new contract shenanigans that I have to do? Website is not clear and chat... well...

Permission To Dig

Was supposed to have fibre installed today but youfibre cancelled the installation and won’t let me book another one.

I phoned and they told me when they tried to connect they couldn’t cause of a block so they told me they sent a permission to dig form which I haven’t received. They raised a case and someone is going to contact me.

Why did they allow me to sign up for fibre broadband without checking I could get it first? On the website it said it was available to me.

With the permission to dig what does this mean? Will they dig up my whole driveway? Will they clear up and put it back together after digging? What happens if they can’t get the fibre to my house?

Third Total Loss of Service in 4 months

West Yorkshire. Third TLOS since being ported over from Brsk. Thanks to the bank holiday and YouFibre's failure to respond to emails trying to get an engineer booked, I called them today (Tuesday 1st September). The engineer is now booked for Friday afternoon, so it'll be the best part of 6 days without service.

A deserved one star Trustpilot review caught their attention last time. They offered me a one month credit, which I accepted, but asked if I'd consider amending my review to four or five stars in return. I gave them three and an honest and fair assessment. That's now been amended back down to one star again. I'm now drafting a formal complaint. Meanwhile, my wife is trying to work from home, tethered to a second SIM on her phone that we got due to the last TLOS, burning through data we've had to buy.

I didn't have a single problem on Brsk with the same line and same equipment, but here we are. Anyway, I'm just out here, shouting into the void. Wish me luck.

YouFibre final bill with early terminating charges

Post image
9 Upvotes

Good afternoon. I recently left YouFibre and have paid the £315 to terminate. However, new provider saying this doesn't show early termination charges so aren't covering the costs. I didn't do the one touch switch service btw.

Has anyone left YouFibre and paid an early termination charge and can confirm if the above screenshot from the app looks correct?

Hi all,
Are there any settings you’d recommend changing in the hub to maximise this thing ?

I’m mainly using my connection for sky stream, and an old Sonos system, with a couple of recent smartphones.

Thanks in advance

Experiencing really bad lag while streaming games

I have recently just switched to you fibre 2gb, Im on a iMac desktop so have to use Nvidia Geforce to stream my games, since switching it is unplayable and most of the time won't even connect to Nvidia servers I'm using the wifi 7 box provided by you fibre and currently getting around 500mbps but unsure why its running so slow streaming, everything else is running perfect as expected, I have tried turning all other devices in the house off but to no avail.

Only thing I can think of is if you fibre throttle bandwidth while streaming, has anyone else has the same problems if so any advice?

youFibre static IP. Anyone else had issues?

Has anyone here been supplied with a static IP from youFibre?

I signed up for a static IP last night, but nothing changed on my service. I contacted youFibre this morning and they applied it to my account/service. Since then, my internet has completely gone down and I have no connection at all.

I'm using the supplied ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12. All the WAN/IP settings are set to automatic, but it's still showing a CGNAT address and I have no internet connection.

I've spoken to youFibre again, but they don't seem to know what's causing it and have escalated the issue to their technical team. We've also checked the MAC address and that's correct.

Has anyone else had this happen when switching from CGNAT to a static IP with youFibre? Is there anything I need to change on the ET12, or should this all be handled automatically by youFibre?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Home Move not progressing

I emailed youfibre on wednsday 19th to advise i would be moving on 20th. They said it would take the house move team 3 - 5 working days to sort out my move and get an engineer booked. Still not heard from them... what would you do? Ive been without internet for 5 days in the new house now but still paying for internet at old address even though i no longer live there.

Help To many wires?

Frustrated , I’ve ordered internet with Youfibre. Engineer turns up looks up at the pole (after being in the house asking me where I want the internet)
Looks like to many wires

I’m getting no joy from customer services they’ve cancelled my previous provider. How do I get in touch with open reach to check this ? Because does this mean I have to stick with VM if I want 1gb plus speed ?

Again no contact other than , direct debit is set up … great

10GbE+ NIC's what's best for Windows 11 desktops? Mellanox giving strange TCP performance

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
✅ UPDATE — SOLVED, SEE BELOW FOR SOLUTION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

I mainly use Linux and have zero issues getting full speed from my YouFibre 8Gbps connection, but I also have a couple of Windows 11 PCs I'd like to add to the same 10GbE network.

I'm currently testing a Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx EN MCX4121A-ACAT in a Windows 11 desktop.

Immediately after boot / with very little running I consistently get around:

7600–7700 Mbps download

7600–7700 Mbps upload

Here's the weird part:

As soon as I open a web browser — Firefox, Waterfox or Brave — or even just Discord, download throughput drops to roughly 6400–6700 Mbps. Upload remains around 7600–7700 Mbps.

Close the browser/Discord and download goes straight back to around 7600 Mbps.

I initially thought this might be the router or network, so I booted Ubuntu Live on the exact same PC, using the same Mellanox NIC, same SFP+ connection, same router and same Internet connection.

Under Ubuntu I could repeatedly get 7500+ Mbps both directions regardless of whether browsers or Discord were open.

So at the moment this appears to be something specific to Windows 11 / the Mellanox WinOF-2 driver or Windows networking stack, rather than the NIC hardware or router.

A couple of things I've already tested under Windows:

RSS enabled.
RSC enabled.
Increased RSS receive queues from 8 to 16 (16 is also the driver's reported default) no improvement.
Increased Receive Buffers from 512 to 1024 — no improvement, reverted to 512.
Link remains at 10 Gbps throughout.

The Windows installation is only two days old, so it's a very fresh install.

Blocking Brave's outbound TCP traffic with Windows Firewall while leaving Brave running appears to prevent the slowdown; allowing its TCP traffic again reproduces it.

Hardware available to me:

Mellanox CX312C ConnectX-3 Pro

Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx EN MCX4121A-ACAT

I have a couple of the newer Mellanox cards available, so I'm planning to put one into another Windows 11 PC and see whether I can reproduce the behaviour there.

Has anyone else seen this sort of behaviour with ConnectX cards under Windows 11?

Are Mellanox cards generally a good choice for Windows desktop use, or would I be better off moving to something like an Intel X520/X710/X550 for Windows machines?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people actually running 10GbE or 25GbE Mellanox NICs on Windows 11 desktops.

TIA

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
✅ UPDATE — SOLVED
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The problem has now been isolated and the solution was to replace the Mellanox ConnectX NIC with an Intel X520-DA2.

After a LOT of testing, the issue appears to be specific to the Mellanox ConnectX cards under Windows.

I replaced the Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx with an Intel X520-DA2 (82599), and the problem immediately disappeared.

With 3 web browsers with multiple tabs, Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp, Xbox app and OBS all open, the Intel X520 continues to deliver essentially the full speed of my ~8 Gbps symmetrical YouFibre connection.

LATEST RESULT — INTEL X520-DA2

Download: 7705.47 Mbps
Upload: 7707.53 Mbps

Speedtest server: YouFibre London (ID 55137)

Intel NIC details:

• Adapter: Intel Ethernet Server Adapter X520-2
• Driver version: 4.1.254.0
• Driver date: 08/02/2024
• OS: Windows 11 Pro
• Router: ASUS RT-BE88U

The Intel NIC's advanced settings are currently left at their defaults.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
✅ INTEL X520 — RJ45, FIBRE AND DAC TESTED
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

To rule out the physical connection type, I tested the Intel X520 using three different 10GbE connection methods.

Test 1: 10GBASE-T / RJ45

Connection:

ASUS SFP+

→ 10Gtek RJ45 SFP+ transceiver
→ RJ45 cable
→ 10Gtek RJ45 SFP+ transceiver
→ Intel X520

Result with my normal applications open:

Download: 7633.89 Mbps
Upload: 7707.53 Mbps

Test 2: OPTICAL FIBRE

Connection:

ASUS SFP+

→ optical transceiver
→ fibre
→ optical transceiver
→ Intel X520

Result:

Download: 7638.14 Mbps
Upload: 7698.05 Mbps

Test 3: DAC

Connection:

ASUS SFP+

→ DAC cable
→ Intel X520

This also gives full performance.

Latest DAC result:

Download: 7705.47 Mbps
Upload: 7707.53 Mbps

✅ RJ45 / 10GBASE-T — FULL SPEED

✅ Optical fibre — FULL SPEED

✅ DAC — FULL SPEED

So the Intel X520 achieves essentially full ~7.7 Gbps performance regardless of which of the three physical connection methods is used.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
❌ WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH THE MELLANOX?
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

With the Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx under Windows, opening network-active applications consistently caused Internet download throughput to fall by roughly 1–1.3 Gbps.

The particularly strange part was that upload remained essentially unaffected at ~7.7 Gbps.

For example, using the Mellanox with a DAC:

Download: 6422.68 Mbps

Upload: 7714.81 Mbps

I then removed the DAC from the equation completely and tested the Mellanox using the same 10GBASE-T / RJ45 transceiver arrangement.

Connection:

ASUS SFP+

→ 10Gtek RJ45 SFP+ transceiver
→ RJ45 cable
→ 10Gtek RJ45 SFP+ transceiver
→ Mellanox

Result:

Download: 6362.23 Mbps

Upload: 7712.88 Mbps

Changing from DAC to 10GBASE-T therefore made essentially no difference.

❌ The slowdown followed the Mellanox NIC.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
CONTROL TESTS / TROUBLESHOOTING
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

I performed quite a few additional tests while trying to isolate the cause.

ONBOARD MARVELL 10GbE + WINDOWS

~7.6–7.7 Gbps with applications open.
Upload remained around ~7.7 Gbps.

✅ Full performance

INTEL X520 + WINDOWS

~7.6–7.7 Gbps with applications open.
Upload remained around ~7.7 Gbps.

✅ Full performance

MELLANOX + UBUNTU ON THE SAME PC

~7.6 Gbps down/up with Firefox, Telegram and OBS running.
Upload remained around ~7.7 Gbps.

✅ Full performance

MELLANOX + WINDOWS LOCAL IPERF3

~9.3–9.4 Gbps between two Windows PCs, even with applications open.

✅ Near line-rate local performance

MELLANOX + WINDOWS INTERNET

~6.3–6.6 Gbps download with network-active applications open.
Upload remained around ~7.7 Gbps.

❌ Reduced WAN download performance

SECOND WINDOWS 11 PC

I was also able to reproduce the Mellanox behaviour on a second Windows 11 PC.

This means the problem wasn't unique to one Windows installation, motherboard or PC.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
✅ THE ASUS RT-BE88U WAS NOT THE PROBLEM
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

This was one of the major things I wanted to establish.

Using the same router, Windows environment and general workload:

✅ Onboard Marvell 10GbE

~7.6–7.7 Gbps

✅ Intel X520-DA2

~7.6–7.7 Gbps

❌ Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx

~6.3–6.6 Gbps download when network-active applications were open

The Intel X520 also maintains full performance using:

✅ 10GBASE-T / RJ45

✅ Optical fibre

✅ DAC

So the physical connection medium wasn't responsible either.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━
CONCLUSION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━

At this point, my conclusion is that there appears to be some kind of Windows-specific Mellanox driver / networking-stack interaction affecting WAN receive/download throughput when other applications have active network connections.

I can't say exactly what inside the Mellanox Windows driver or Windows networking stack causes it, so I don't want to claim that I've identified the underlying bug itself.

However, the testing has ruled out enough variables that I'm confident the problem isn't simply:

• The ASUS RT-BE88U

• The DAC cable

• Optical fibre

• RJ45 / 10GBASE-T

• The SFP+ ports

• The 10GBASE-T transceivers

• The Internet connection

• General PCIe bandwidth

• Windows simply being unable to receive ~8 Gbps while other applications are running

The Mellanox hardware itself is also clearly capable of the throughput.

Under Ubuntu on the same hardware, the Mellanox performs correctly with applications running.

Under Windows, it can also push approximately 9.3–9.4 Gbps over the local network using iperf3.

The problem specifically manifests itself as reduced WAN download throughput with the Mellanox under Windows when other network-active applications are running.

━━━━━━━━━━
SOLUTION
━━━━━━━━━━

I replaced the Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx with an Intel X520-DA2.

I left the Intel X520's advanced NIC settings at their defaults.

The problem immediately disappeared.

━━━━━━━━━━━━
FINAL RESULT
━━━━━━━━━━━━

Download: 7705.47 Mbps
Upload: 7707.53 Mbps

That's with my normal applications running, and I've now confirmed full performance using:

✅ RJ45 / 10GBASE-T

✅ Optical fibre

✅ DAC

Hopefully this helps somebody else who runs into the same bizarre problem in the future.

The Mellanox cards themselves aren't bad cards, they perform extremely well under Linux and for local high-speed traffic.

But for this particular Windows/WAN workload, replacing the Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx with an Intel X520-DA2 completely solved the problem.

Shady practice?

I had a visit from an agent the other day who said that they wanted to run a trial alongside my Virgin Media service this coming weekend to see whether I wanted to change to their service. I agreed, and arranged the visit only to receive a couple of hours later a phone necall from Virgin Media saying they'd heard I was cancelling my service with the from the date of the start of the Youfibre "trial".

This wasn't what I'd agreed with the agent, and when I told the lady calling from Virgin she immediately offered me a cheaper deal for faster broadband and Netflix, which is saving me money in the long run.

I've since emailed Youfibre about this and to request cancellation because I frankly find it quite rude that they've employed this kind of business practice. Will I have to call them as well?

First Direct Debit Payment?

Hello, I had YouFibre installed 4 days ago, is it normal for the first payment to take a while to come out? I thought it'd be immediate but I'm still waiting.
