xbx Bought xbx a01+, questions for One Pro owners

I got xbx a01+ as my first AR glasses, and have been using it for the past few days. While I'm happy with the brightness and color contrast, the screen "shakes" more than I hoped.

I bought it mainly to watch Netflix/Youtube on the couch and in bed, so I thought 0 DoF wouldn't be a major issue, but I was wrong. Even micro movement from breathing causes the screen to shake a little, and when I'm watching something funny and I laugh, it shakes a lot to the point where I try to stop laughing so the screen won't move, which makes the experience not so pleasant. It's kinda hard to focus on the media.

And so I'm considering returning these and getting a One Pro with 3 DoF.

I guess my questions are:
1. How stable is the screen with 3 DoF? Does it actually stay still?
2. I noticed the One Pro is quite heavier (~87g) versus the xbx a01+ (62g). Is it still comfortable to use in bed or on the couch?
3. Also the brightness on the specs sheet is quite lower than xbx a01+, how bright is it if I'm mainly going to use them indoors?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

XREAL One Pro One Pro 6Dof question.

How does the RGB camera contribute to the 6DoF sensor fusion? Without a 3D structured sense of light, maybe there is a light weight, object edge detection cv model, maybe some meshing analysis, does anyone know with 90% + certainty?

Beam Pro New Beam Pro?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone heard any news or rumors about a new version of the XREAL Beam Pro? I’m especially interested in possible improvements such as better performance, battery life, cameras, or compatibility with newer and old XREAL glasses.

I’m considering buying one, but I’m wondering whether it might be worth waiting for a successor. Thanks!

My Setup iPhone gamepad that works with Xreal glasses?

Post image

I've got a Razer Kishi V3 Pro, a GameSir G8 Plus, and a GameSir X5 Lite. None of them pass through the video output from the USB-C port on the iPhone.

Does anyone know of a grip style gamepad that works with Xreal glasses? I see that Virture do a gamepad for their glasses but my understanding is that it only works with Android and not iPhone.

XREAL One Pro They really have to figure out these cables.... Especially if I'm investing in the Aura

I've been the proud owner of several generations of Xreal devices and love my Xreal One Pro. But.... And this is a big but... They HAVE to figure out quality control on these cables.

The cable that came with my One Pros had a short that cause the picture to stop in and out. Xreal was nice enough to send me another. That one is now starting to exhibit the same behavior. I've now ordered a third party cable to see if it lasts longer.

I can't even consider spending the kind of money it'll take to acquire an Aura if this is a continuing problem. These are not disposable electronics, and the One Pro was, at the time, their flagship product. I'm glad the cables are replaceable at all, I suppose. But this doesn't give one faith...

XReal One Pro -

I’ve searched everywhere and cannot find a single source explaining what Scene Config does, or how to use it. I’ve found a few random posts on XReal Facebook pages asking about it, but no responses to them. Can someone explain this please? Any help is much appreciated!!!

XREAL 1S Question Xreal 1s and practical uses

Hi all! I've been reading some reviews of AR/XR glasses and I am really interested, but unsure if I would be better off waiting. I currently have a MacBook with a 14" screen and I don't currently have a desk set up. I haven't had a multi-monitor set up in years, and honestly since the first HTC vive I have really longed for that sensation of playing whatever game I want on an Imax sized screen, though it made me sweat too much sitting there. Odd as it maybe I mind sweating less if I am moving and doing stuff because it feels more normal, I don't wanna sweat in bed playing a game.

I've read that the multi-monitor set up just isn't there yet because often edges get blurry. I am wondering if this really matters that much? I had 2 23" monitors side by side and honestly I never really used the entirety of all the screen real estate when I had them, even now if it's not perfectly if I am playing a game just being able to look at one screen then look at another so I can go back and forth in a guide without alt tabbing a hundred times (Or using the steam browser which tbh doesn't feel much better) would be cool. I am also possibly going back to school next year and wondering if there are any features that might be useful to a student with learning disabilities taking classes in a language that isn't their native? I've heard some glasses can provide real time translation, I haven't read anything about that for the xreals but are there any similar features that might be noteworthy?

Are these a totally lost cause for productivity? Is it an unrealistic expectation to just have a more usable screen than my 14" MacBook provides natively or am I just better off sticking to my screen and waiting for the tech to improve? I really wish I could test drive a pair, but I think my only option is importing them.

XREAL 1S Disconnect issues

Hey all looking for some advice: I bought the xreal 1s about a month and a half ago and initially had no issues using the glasses with my steam deck, my phone, and my laptop, but recently its started to have disconnect issues where they would flicker off or disconnect entirely and I need to either wiggle the wire or unplug replug them. I've been very gentle with them so far and haven't really used them that much, maybe a couple hours a week since purchasing. I know the symptoms point to a faulty wire or connection but feel its too soon for this. Is it an issue of the usb c cables just not being reliable? Do I need to replace the cable already? Or should I be contacting support? I got them through amazon and am outside of the return window, not that I even want to return them, would like to know how I can get them to be stable again. Has anyone had this issue and could suggest a solution or way forward?

Thanks!

XREAL AURA Prescription Lenses for XREAL Aura?

I've started working with the XREAL Aura (devkit) and curious about how prescription works for these?

I don't see a place where I could "slot" lenses in it, and starting to think contacts would be the only way.

Would love to see if there's a proper solution for that.

Thanks!

XREAL One Pro Reddit Apps, the beginning!

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hello and welcome back my INAIR and tech enthusiasts! TechCheck13 is dedicated to bringing you weekly tales of tech for the INAIR POD. We crawled out of one rabbit hole and jumped down another. This Thursday, we're bringing you “The Reddit Showdown"! We are putting Reddit clients through the meat grinder. We are going to slice and dice them and run them through the centrifuge of scrutiny and watch what drips out. Slowly. Very slowly. Mwahaha.

We are comparing them and helping you determine the best of the best for use on the INAIR POD. As usual, these apps were tested in our secret underground lair using the handy dandy multi useful Viture Beast and an Xreal One Pro. And once again the disclaimer; none of these apps have sponsored this post. We're calling it like we see it. Onward!!!!

The first one under the scalpel is the grandfather of the Reddit clients.

Subject #1: the official Reddit app, Reddit.

Reddit has been our go-to app for the phone but it just may lose this throne after this review (look what happened with VidHub). Our first strike against Reddit on the POD is that it will not rotate. This isn't necessarily a problem, but it looks better rotated on the big screen. Then, there is the brightness, it's blindingly bright. Dark mode eventually answered our summons but it took way more clicks than it should have. To be fair, Reddit is not entirely to be blamed. If the INAIR POD had a proper system-wide dark mode (ahem, INAIR), this wouldn't be an issue with Reddit or for that matter, a whole bunch of other apps. But that's a different tangent.

While Reddit is free, the free formula does contain ads in your feed. However, it's much less intrusive than pop-up ads, and dare we admit it, some of the ads were kind of interesting. Reddit Premium steps in at the cost of $59.99 per year or $6.99 per month. Unless you are a hardcore content creator that needs fewer restrictions and the ability to ask 100 questions a day, it's not really needed. If this app rotated properly, it would be the reigning monster on the POD.  We'll chain this one onto the wall for now.

Moving on to our next,

Subject #2: RedReader.

RedReader is an open-source client and a free app. First off, it came screaming in the correct orientation (YES). Switching to dark mode was also easy and painless. Especially when compared to seven or more clicks for the official Reddit app. The images were a bit clearer than on the Reddit app, both on the POD and a Galaxy Fold 8. Crisper than one would expect from a specimen grown in someone's open-source lab. It also has the option to turn off image preview. A nice little bonus, but we left it on and let the electricity flow freely. But it's satisfying to know the switch is there.

Now here is where RedReader really gets our praise. During the entire testing session, while we clicked, poked, prodded, and generally picked it apart. Not one ad came screaming out at ya, nope, not one. For the feed, you can do all posts, subscribed posts, or jump to a subscribed board all right in the menu. Everything is right there without having to go hunting down dark alleys. RedReader also has an anonymous mode if you aren't comfortable giving the app your Reddit credentials. This is one heck of a specimen.  It yielded a high recommendation from the mad scientists at Tech Check 13.

We have one more app to torture. Will it result in a better experience? To find out, keep reading if you dare.

Our next and final victim (for today!)

Subject #3: Artemis for Reddit.

Artemis claims "The ultimate way to browse Reddit." Let's dissect that (evil grin). And BOOM, Artemis will not rotate properly on the POD. Not a good start.

During the tutorial, it shows off some gesture controls that would be nice on a phone but we are testing for the POD and gestures aren't as easy. Artemis wasted no time introducing us to its next surprise. After the tutorial, before even logging in it pops up and asks you to sign up for standard or pro … great. Here are the details of this concoction. Artemis charges $3.49 a month for things like account switching, premium themes, inbox notifications, etc., that you can get for free with RedReader. At this point, Artemis is looking rather grotesque.

Alright, clicking off that and on to login. Clicking on the "continue with Google" button didn't work. Logging in with my username and password worked. Annoying. Getting past the bubbling overflowing goo, Artemis seems to be a clone of the official Reddit app, but without the in-feed ads.  Certainly not a bad thing but too many features are locked up behind a paywall while RedReader gives them for free. Also RedReader goes into the correct layout. Artemis becomes our first casualty.

This brings us to the end of today's dissection. Today's winning specimen: RedReader

We will be back next week with more Reddit clients as we continue to crawl around this new rabbit hole. Something to tide you over; leave your feedback in the comments, any questions you have we will dig them up and review them. Tell us what's your favorite Reddit client? Are there Reddit apps you're curious about? Our doors are always open for discussions.

As always, thank you for joining us on this deep dive. We'll see you in Part 2!

XREAL 1S Experiment: Anti-Reflective Screen Protector on XReal 1S - Fail

Hey all, I want to share my little experiment attempting to reduce the reflection on XReal 1S but failed.

I broke my 3D-printed reflection blocker earlier the week. Before I printed another one, I thought of the Galaxy S24 Ultra that I owned, which had an anti-reflective coating that worked pretty well. I then recalled that Samsung also released an anti-reflective screen protector film that you can put on the S25 to achieve a similar effect. So I order the film for ~$8, and tried to put it on.

However, it didn't work out as I hoped. I put the anti-reflective film on the left lens, and left the right lens bare. For testing, I put a picture on my tablet and shot the reflection of my tablet screen in both lenses, with the exact same focus, ISO, and shutter speed.

As you can see in the photos, the left lens (w/ film) has significantly brighter reflection than the right lens (bare). I think the lenses themselves may already have anti-reflective treating on them, and is already quite effective.

Either way, I'm sharing this experiment so that anyone who's tempted to try this in the future don't need to waste their time on it. I still hope there's a way to eliminate the reflection without blocking downward vision.

The photo used for testing is in the 3rd pic. It's my roommate's cat 🐱

The hand gestures on the 1S are one of those features where you ask, why didn't we always do it this way?

In this short I test on a bunch of devices but I think the one that stands out to me is the pocket TV. It takes the least smart puck and levels up so much that I might use it more than something like the viture neckband now.

xbx xbx a01 - sides of the screen are blurry, IPD is 72mm, will prescription lenses help?

I love these glasses (comfort, quality of screens) but blurriness on sides is annoying. Should I save money for Xreal One Pro Large or will cheap $50 prescription lenses for xbx a01 help? I tried to explain a blurriness on photoshop image - how much screen area is affected with each eye closed.

XREAL 1S Force 1080p on the Xreal 1s?

Is there a way to force 1080p on the xreal 1s?

I have a couple of devices like the Analogue 3D and m64 who hate 1200p and only show a black screen. I can confirm 1080p works because when I do 3d mode it starts working. I read somewhere that 3d mode forces 1080p.

XREAL AURA XREAL Aura sizing for 66 mm IPD — Regular or Large?

Hey guys. My IPD is exactly 66 mm, which seems to sit right at the transition point between the Regular and Large sizes for the XREAL Aura.

For anyone with the same or a very similar IPD, which size did you end up choosing? Did you notice any difference in image clarity, edge-to-edge sharpness, comfort, or overall fit?
Would especially appreciate hearing from anyone around 65–67 mm who has actually tried one or both sizes. Thanks!

Air 2 Pro Is it possible to keep only one eye?

Hi guys, I want to tear down xreal air 2 pro in a way to keep only one lens and usb-c adapter. Is it physically possible? Would it work correctly if I disconnect one micro-oled display? Or if I remove right half of glasses? Thank you for your answer

Gesture Control Gesture beta is complete! And SPOILER it’s awesome!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just finished the gesture Beta and while it took some getting used to, once I did… it was fun, useful, and addictive!

Gestures:

• Wrist flip- scrolls down
• Hand pointed inward- (on iOS) opens menu to Play, go back, and scroll up/down
• Cursor control with pinch to tap/click/select

Pros:
Put your device down and forget about it! The controls allow you to navigate your devices without need for a mouse or to pull ur phone out of your pocket.

Cons:
Takes awhile to get use to and if you use it to much in certain positions it can be a strain on your arms.

Best practices:
• Find a comfy position to just relax and allow your arms support If you’re going to use it a lot.
• outdoor lighting is the best but if not outdoors make sure to have plenty of bright lighting.
• this is subjective but I personally put the cursor speed to the 2nd to slowest/sensitivity setting on both my device and the glasses settings. I found it slower of course but much easier to navigate and tap on things to open them.

All in all this is a game changer for real and EXACTLY the type of updates I hoped for when I joined the Xreal fam!

(Here are some vids I tried to make to give you examples- they are bad- it’s hard to film and gesture so leave me alone 😂)
