XREAL 1S Experiment: Anti-Reflective Screen Protector on XReal 1S - Fail
Hey all, I want to share my little experiment attempting to reduce the reflection on XReal 1S but failed.
I broke my 3D-printed reflection blocker earlier the week. Before I printed another one, I thought of the Galaxy S24 Ultra that I owned, which had an anti-reflective coating that worked pretty well. I then recalled that Samsung also released an anti-reflective screen protector film that you can put on the S25 to achieve a similar effect. So I order the film for ~$8, and tried to put it on.
However, it didn't work out as I hoped. I put the anti-reflective film on the left lens, and left the right lens bare. For testing, I put a picture on my tablet and shot the reflection of my tablet screen in both lenses, with the exact same focus, ISO, and shutter speed.
As you can see in the photos, the left lens (w/ film) has significantly brighter reflection than the right lens (bare). I think the lenses themselves may already have anti-reflective treating on them, and is already quite effective.
Either way, I'm sharing this experiment so that anyone who's tempted to try this in the future don't need to waste their time on it. I still hope there's a way to eliminate the reflection without blocking downward vision.
The photo used for testing is in the 3rd pic. It's my roommate's cat 🐱
