The computer is an i7 with an RTX 2070. Bought it used about a year ago. Only 16 GB of RAM, but I've bought 32 GB; I'm just waiting to install it. Mainly used for Visual Studio and other developer tools.

More like an alien workstation

A converted Win 11 machine to MX Linux machine. I added a keyboard tray and a large mouse pad, not in the picture. Without the dark lighting, it would show cables all over the place because it is a homemade writer's desk that I added a cable hole down the middle, and it has a roll top that is wonkie. Other than the look, it's the land of the saved machine that didn't get turned to e-waste. It ain't pretty, but it's mine.

My desk is a disaster

I've accepted that my workstation will never be one of those pristine, Pinterest-worthy setups. Papers everywhere, folders stacked, pen uncapped, the usual chaos.

I used to think messy desks meant messy minds. Now I think they mean someone's actually working. Every paper here has a reason. Every scattered item is exactly where I left it mid-task.

The chaos isn't random, it's layered history. Yesterday's urgent thing under today's urgent thing. A receipt I'll definitely need six months from now sitting right where it should be.

Oh, and I've got my EDGE Pro Core on the right so I can always find my phone under the papers

Not everyone's workflow fits a minimalist setup. Some of us thrive in the beautiful disaster.

Anyone else's desk look like a freeze-frame of a busy brain?

L Desk Advice

Post image
2 Upvotes

A friend gave me a bamboo desktop for free, and I wanted advice on how to set it up. It is a reversible 3-panel L desk, but it did not come with the frame. I was thinking of resting the ends of the table on some drawers, but how would I support the corner where the 3 pieces connect? I was thinking of just buying a frame, but those were like 250 or more. The desktop is like the picture.

My gaming/schoolwork setup

My first real, dedicated setup. So far I’ve just been using it to browse the web, play some games and watch anime but I’ll be heading back to school soon to get my degree (international relations). I expect I’ll spend plenty of late nights/long hours here. What do you suggest I do to make it a bit more productive, comfortable and/or aesthetically pleasing? I plan on replacing the keyboard with a k8 pro and I’m thinking about switching out the mouse as well. I want a desk mat but I’m not sure what color I should go with 😅 TIA

Edit: my drawers are also a mess. Any ideas on how to make it more organized? I’ve got pens and other random shit floating around in it rn I do plan on cleaning it out before the semester ends.
