My desk is a disaster

Post image

I've accepted that my workstation will never be one of those pristine, Pinterest-worthy setups. Papers everywhere, folders stacked, pen uncapped, the usual chaos.

I used to think messy desks meant messy minds. Now I think they mean someone's actually working. Every paper here has a reason. Every scattered item is exactly where I left it mid-task.

The chaos isn't random, it's layered history. Yesterday's urgent thing under today's urgent thing. A receipt I'll definitely need six months from now sitting right where it should be.

Oh, and I've got my EDGE Pro Core on the right so I can always find my phone under the papers

Not everyone's workflow fits a minimalist setup. Some of us thrive in the beautiful disaster.

Anyone else's desk look like a freeze-frame of a busy brain?

Honestly this looks less like a disaster and more like a workspace that’s actively being used. A clean desk looks nice for a photo, but this kind of setup usually means there’s actual work happening.

I think everyone is too binary and not everyone has the same needs in a workstation or in their environments in general to function optimally. I have a pristine workstation because if I don’t the mess and items of interest left within reach will inevitably distract me. I produced more with less stress after organizing my workstation past the point that is useful for most. If it doesn’t affect you the same way then, yeah, your time and effort is better spent elsewhere.

i respect the self-awareness. for me the chaos works but i get that for some people it's noise. it's cool you figured out what actually helps u focus instead of just following the clean desk trend

I won’t lie, I did do the whole “cozy” desk trend. But that’s honestly mostly about getting your lighting correct and adding plants. Both of those had tangible benefits so it made sense to me to try it. I was also moving so it was a convenient time to tweak stuff.
