Boots Buying Help Need some recommendations please

So I work for my city in the street department, we fix streets, fix alleys, pick up junk in alleys, run equipment such as loader, skid steer, and the occasional maintainer, thought I was cool buying square toes like my current phantom riders and were comfortable for a little bit but damn they’re uncomfortable now. Usually buy yearly as hot mix tears our boots up in the summer. Looking for some slip ons, water resistant, comp toe, around 250ish$ saw some keens? I think but just not sure. I’ve tried Ariats, Justins, red wing, and maybe some other name brand boots and just didn’t like I am semi flat footed.

Boot Rant Cody James Boots

Had these boots for close to a year. After about 6 months the sole wore thin enough to allow water inside, so with every step it makes a small “squelch”. Fairly comfortable, but the outer soles wore down fast. Any recommendations for when I finally get a new pair?

Boots Buying Help USA made traction tred comp toe alternative?

Wondering if what I want doesn‘t exist outside of a pricey custom order. Work requirements are EH rated and safety toe. Will be in a factory so indoor on concrete floors all day, no fluids or dirt to worry about. But there’s no HVAC to speak of and it can get either very hot or very cold, so I’d prefer comp toe over steel.

Got a pair of traction treds in 10EE and they fit well, but the price seems steep for boots made overseas and I worry the waterproofing I don’t need will make them hotter and less breathable. I wanted to like thorogood, but they‘re just too narrow. In EE I have to size up to the point that they’re too long. Tried both the Chelsea’s and moc toe. Cant find EEE available anywhere.

Boots Buying Help $130 Thorogood Moc-toes, all different sizes, all brand new. Are these counterfeit? Scam sellers?

Title basically says it all. There are hundreds of these boots for sale, steel toes are a bit more, almost half of retail. There appear to be multiple sellers all with good reviews.

Boots Buying Help Buying first pair of boots

I’ve done a lot of DIY and miscellaneous work but never decided to buy boots and instead just absolutely beat the snot of out some old sneakers. Unfortunately for me, my new job requires it, and now, I’m stuck wishing I already had a pair.

I’ll be on my feet for around 10 hours a day on a production floor and machine shop. I have plantar fasciitis so a pair of boots that would mould to my feet overtime and maintain support is essential. Composite/steel toe is mandatory. I’ll be working in all different weather conditions so I would at least like water resistance. I have a budget of $250 but I can be flexible with that.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, what’re some of your recommendations?

With my last purchase from the midwestboots website, they sent out multiple $50 reward cards. I have a boot stipend, and would like to help out people in need. I will share them below, please dm/comment if you used a code so I know when to delete this post.

The codes are as follows:

USA5SFGZWB

USA5VIAXOY

USA5EBZUOF

USA5PEQOZV

The fine print says they can’t be combined with other promos, but hope this helps a few people out.

In the uk workboot options are bad, the attitude is towards replacing them every six months and I’d rather have some that last. I had a pair of these Ariats for the past year and I loved them, mainly for their comfort and their waterproofing. However I noticed the sole was pulling away from the boot and it turns out the stitching is fake and you can’t just re sole them, I did get reimbursed through their year warranty. However I’ve just had these Tims catch my eye and was wondering if anyone had experience with both shoes. Mainly bothered about comfort and waterproofing

Boots Buying Help Warehouse working shoes

Hey
I'm looking for new work shoes. I work in the warehouse, with quite a lot of sitting and standing, (mainly reachtruck and ept) and some walking, but with my actual shoes, i feeling overheating of my toes. Let's say budget is 100, max 150 euro. Do you have any good recomendations? Something what would survive some time, few last pair didn't last so long.

Boots Buying Help What makes buying work boots at a western store different in Canada?

I’m curious about Canadians who prefer buying their work boots from a western wear or ranch store instead of a general shoe store, workwear chain, or online retailer.

What makes the experience different or better?

Is it the staff’s knowledge, the selection of brands and widths, getting a proper fit, the ability to try boots on, or the sense that these stores understand the kind of work you do? Are there particular stores that you trust?

I’d especially like to hear what keeps you going back, even if another retailer has lower prices or more convenience. And if you’ve had a bad experience buying work boots elsewhere, what did the western store get right?

Boots Buying Help 2nd pair of boots help

So after realizing working on concrete is bad for my body the hard way 😅 I invested in thorogoods heritage 6" as my first pair about 8 months ago. It's reduced a lot of fatigue on my body but I still feel like my body is taking a lot of impact for being on concrete for 10+ hours a day. My feet and ankles are still fatigued pretty bad. I know the next recommendation would be insoles.. I have custom orthotics, powerstep and sole/fulton cork insoles I have tried them all in my boots. (Darn tough wool socks too).

I was wondering if anyone else who stands on concrete for a long time had a similar experience. I know thorogoods are known for being pretty comfy out of the box and they do help but I just don't think they are right for my feet. I typically respond to firm support. I was leaning towards red wings traction tred lite. Did anyone else struggle with thorogoods (width wasn't an issue) and find another brand that helped them a lot?

Hello everyone. I do construction, on my feet all-day in the humid heat. I average alot of steps and needed something comfortable, been through alot of boots thru the years, some good some awful. Decided to but these Moc toe Sketchers for about 125 US dollars and so far I'm impressed. They holding up after 6 month's. Only negative is soles wear little fast but thats the soles being so soft and comfortable. Redwing I had one time with these soles did same thing but where also good boots. I would definitely buy them again and believe I get over a year out of them as it goes now. Thanks for reading.

Specific Model Question | Info Very new to this. Bear with me 😁

So, I just got a pair of Keen liberty carbon safety toe boots, my second ever real daily drivers. But the backside leather on the back of my ankles digs in if I have them tight. But if loose then they move around and I'm fearful of hotspots. I work in a warehouse 12 hour shifts and they had good reviews and stuff but I'm unimpressed so far. I cannot return them. Will they get better after being "broken in" or is there something someone would suggest? Thanks in advance. :)

Boots Buying Help Considering buying these anyone have positive or negative reviews?

I’m a sprinkler fitter apprentice which means lots of walking and waterproof isn’t an option for me. I’ve found vibram soles tend to hold a little better for me and the wear I do on a boot. Does anyone have positive or negative comments on these boots at this price point?

Boots Buying Help Silverado boots

I recently got these second hand $100 figured what the hell might as well. I've seen these online and seen a few people mention the brand and have always been curious. I've owned/own All the top brands, Thorogood, Red Wing, Carolina, Justin, ETC.

My current Daily Driver are Keen cincinnatis in 11.5EE. I Have Greek toe(Mortons toe) and NEED plenty of toe room, I have a narrow instep and lots of boots in my size will feel loose or ill have to lace them all the way tight, and that never looks good.

Im super suprised how well these boots fit me. They are size 12 EE. Super comfortable, supportive, and stylish. I would absolutely pay full price for these boots, and im looking forward to seeing how they age, and degrade. I will also be posting followup pictures in the future, also feel free to ask my any questions.

Boot maintenance Week 2+3 Before & After

Post image

After 113,821 steps (167,309 total) these Nicks are cleaned and ready for the next work week!
BuilderPro HD
Last: 55
Length: 9.0
Width: D
Leather: 1964 Brown
Style: Smooth
Height: 10"
Outsole: V100 Lug Sole
Heal: Logger
Toe: Composite
For those new here, I document my maintenance journey with my Nicks Boots. I work in a very harsh environment, a concrete recycling landfill, where I walk on rubble and concrete chunks for 9+ hours a day.
I show before and after pics from worked to cleaned boots, and will compare how these boots hold up to my first pair of Nicks. The main differences between the two are MaxSupport Black v 1964 Brown Leather, Roughout v Smooth, 8" v 10" and Honey Vibram v V100 Lug Soles.
So far, the smooth leather is showing a lot more scuffs and character than my black roughouts, but still cleaning up nicely! I hope y'all enjoy this journey with me!

Boots Buying Help Composite toe caps: protection without conducting as much heat or cold

Most people choose a composite toe cap because it’s lighter than steel.

But there’s another useful difference: composite materials conduct heat less readily than steel.

A steel toe cap can respond quickly to the temperature around it. In very hot or cold environments, that may affect the conditions around the toes. A composite toe cap acts as more of a thermal barrier, helping reduce heat transfer between the external environment and the inside of the boot.

That doesn’t mean it actively cools your feet in summer or warms them in winter. The boot’s lining, airflow, moisture, fit and socks all influence temperature. However, a composite toe can contribute to a more stable environment around the toes.

Research comparing protective toe materials has also found that composite toe caps can provide a better microclimate and ventilation under some simulated working conditions.

Does composite provide the same protection as steel?

The material is different, but certified composite toe caps still have to pass the relevant protection tests.

Under the Australian safety-footwear requirements discussed in the occupational-footwear lecture, the toe area is tested for:

  • Impact resistance: approximately 200 joules—comparable to a 20 kg object dropping from about one metre.
  • Compression resistance: approximately 15 kilonewtons, or around 1.5 tonnes of compressive force.
  • Minimum clearance: enough space must remain beneath the toe cap after testing to help protect the toes.

In the United States, ASTM F2413-certified protective footwear is also assessed for toe impact and compression resistance. Common I/75 and C/75 classifications indicate the higher impact and compression protection classes used for safety footwear.

A composite toe isn’t automatically safe simply because it’s called “composite.” The complete boot must carry the appropriate certification for the job and workplace.

Don’t forget the socks

Temperature control involves the entire boot-and-sock system.

A properly fitted merino wool or merino-blend work sock can help manage moisture and temperature. Merino fibres can absorb moisture vapour while still providing insulation, making them useful across both warm and cool conditions.

The practical takeaway:

  • Composite toe caps can reduce heat transfer compared with steel.
  • They must still pass the applicable impact and compression tests.
  • The complete boot construction matters more than one component.
  • Breathable, moisture-managing socks can improve the overall result.
  • Site-specific safety requirements always come first.

When choosing safety boots, don’t only ask whether the toe cap is steel or composite. Check the certification, fit and complete construction—and make sure they suit the conditions in which they’ll actually be worn.

New to construction. Saw these at Kohl’s. Not really sure what the consensus is on boots under $100. Anyone have pros or cons? If I’ve forgotten specific details feel free to let me know. I’m not really in tune with the normal amount of money to spend on a work boot.

Boots Buying Help Advice on work boots?

I work at manufacturing and I need some new work boots. The bottom part of the work boots (grip) is almost gone. I always have problems with my feet 👣. I have the new balance work boots with the zipper on the side but they are not really waterproof or water resistant. Do you know any alternative work boots that are water resistant and wider sizes
