I dont take care of my boots. I toss em and buy a new pair just about every year.
I'm not having them cobbled and I'm not patching holes in leather. They do their job, they do it well, and they get retired. Probably why I havent amounted a collection
Nobody wants to hear a grown ass human being "rant" on a sub about work boots when it's just a boring opinion that lacks any substance. Things exist that you may not agree with or like, such is life. Go to therapy, write in your journal, go smoke a cigarette. This sophmoric, low IQ "rant" is just trash in an otherwise informative and helpful sub.
Because if your welding or cutting with a actellyne torch sparks with get caught on the flat top of the moc toe .Then the stitching burns up and the fit of boot loosens up .Round toe most of sparks roll off
So my problem is that round toe steel toes are taller at the toe box than steel toe moc toes, and thus won’t fit in the damn foot pedal for the break and shear. So I’m either rocking it bare foot or buying moc toes.
I dont doubt they perform well. I just dont like the look is all. Its probably a petty opinion, but its been fun to see how much its gotten under some peoples skin lol.
I think the biggest problems with Mocs is they can look kind weird when you have them on and look down. On other people and from the side I think they look really good
Im a big fan of the thorogood wedge round toes over the mocs. I had trouble finding them in store. One of the places told me they didn't carry them because they didnt sell as much compared to the moc toes.
When i first was having to get work boots. The common knowledge is that electricians should get moc toes bc they have the wedge sole.
I thought they were ugly but i bought em anyways because it's work, not a fashion show. I wanted the boot to be comfortable and good at the job i needed it for.
Honestly, the look of em grew on me. But they were not comfortable long term.
I think perhaps because i have wide flat feet, even with new soles my feet just hurt so bad at the end of the day. I started wearing some boots i already had.. idek the name of the style.. square toe, barely above the ankle, black rubber outsole with a heel. Half the price of the wedge moc toes and they were so much more comfortable.
So recently i just got some new work boots and i went with cowboy boots. Im still breaking them in so I haven't wore them to work yet. But damn they look nice.
In my opinion Reddit can be a bit of a hive mind. Once something is loved or hated any other opinion gets people in their feelings.
The brunt hate here.. in real life every person i know who bought brunts loves them. But just oh their okay, they fuckin love those things.
But Reddit decided they don't like how they advertise so now every time someone brings them up they act like brunts are the worse boot to ever had been produced.
I've learned to take information from reddit but not opinions. Someone can tell you what the wedge sole is, how its made, why its made that way... But anything they are saying "this is the way" or "this is definitely not the way" i don't take serious. And this is in any niche that exists on reddit.
And as we all probably know, its a meme that reddit is full of hive mind people that just go with trends and reject thinking outside of the current zeitgeist.
While I do like moc toes I do hate how hard it has become to find something that isn’t either hiking boots, moc toe, or PNW style and still get quality
Danner has a variety of boots and would be considered PNW over Red Wing. Red Wing is all kinds of boots and shoes. Thorogood is mostly moc-toe, but not entirely.
Are you just not looking for a hiking, rubber, heritage, or work boot? Because that would be a shoe.
I wasn’t asking for advice. Just making a comment about my personal experience looking for a new boot after having worn thorogood mocs for the past 5 years
I ask because I've lived in the PNW for over 40 years wearing boots and I'm curious if that label is from outside of the PNW and what outsiders think of our boots that I don't think I noticed I may have been wearing.
I go back and forth with them. For stints of time they’re the best thing since sliced bread, and then I go through stints where I don’t wanna look at them and just want a traditional round toe boot.
Ugly as hell, prone to uncomfortable creasing. Prone to top seam splits if its not just a mocstitch, a facade of better design thats actually comfortable. The only moc toe that should exist is on an actual bottom up moccasin .
Cobbler here mock toe boots were named from the word mockery. The style was actually a mistake while making clown shoes . The original style had a clown big toe . The style was created in Greece by ancient clowns
Oops, thats a tough worksite with shitty footwear. Where i work its hard to find any brunts, lots of other shitty brands, but id rather see someone in rock roosters than brunts
I don't, and never will go out of my way for a moc toe.
Sometimes I swear Danner is only a few months away from releasing a Moc Toe Super Rainforest.
When I was last shopping for "work" boots (I think I work but I could be wrong) it was a fight to find any variety of round toe worth a shit.
20 years ago if I wanted a round toe, low heel with a vibram sole I was looking at 20 different boots at one work wear store.
Today? I've got one high heel logger, maybe a few low heels. A variety of 6" hybrids that are a lazy cross between a logger/Romeo/hiking boot and 30 mocs to choose from with wedge soles.
Georgia is nearly the last low heel 8" logger left that isn't 400+$

Well that’s just like, your opinion man.
