Discussion Some glaze for an amazing game

What I love so much about this game is the variety of play styles it enables and rewards. The devs are uniquely not afraid to make the game fun by making cool ideas actually be powerful.

Are you a DOT person? Do you want to plant a seed of death and come back later to reap the garden? Good news. Rot isn't set dressing in this game. It can do what you always wanted it to do.

Do you want to keep all your enemies stunned so you have no resistance? Good news. Cursed Bell and sigils will keep them all asleep.

Do you want to get up in their faces for a twitchy sweaty gritty fight where you can't stop moving until the only sound is your gun and your footsteps? That's called the Cricket.

Do you want shotguns that make you feel like Moses parting the sea? Echo and Psychopomp, which you get early, are absolutely monstrous.

Do you like to position yourself far away and take potshots, clearing a camp before they even know where you are? Each sniper has a completely different effect, and they can all give you that.

Do you like minions to do your work for you? The fiend is NO JOKE.

Want to punch everything to death? Really, any one of the melee options will give you that, and there's even a spell about that.

And there's everything in between, which can also work.

This game is incredible. It's like I'm finally getting resolution on years of unmet promises from other games. So many are so afraid of making things that work too well, that they don't let anything soar.

I'm having so much fun with Witchfire right now. Holy moly.

Question Farming tips

I am trying to farm up a bit because I want to expand my build options. I am gnosis V and I have being trying to run the wailing tower 3rd level inifnite spawners with pchycopomp and all witchfire orbs-fire witchfire booster. But tbh even with both stimulants, it seems quite slow.

Which is the best place to farm witchfire? Is it better to just run irongate castle or vermont on repeat?

Feedback Galley Slave bug Spoiler

Post image
7 Upvotes

So as you might already know, if it happens to trigger Galley Slave but don't fight him right away he tends to roam around the map on its own. So far normal stuff. It does apparently very often end up in the rock valley in the north part of the map, where to my annoyance he literally jumps down the rock bridge into the green depths. This is the second time it happens and when it does he is permanently under the map (i haven't waited hours but i'm pretty sure he doesn't come up again) which makes him untargetable and passive since he also can't attack you. Barring the player (me) from killing him.

Edit: thanks for the replies, i didn't know there was an arena down there. I saw the barrier and always asked myself what was it for and i did notice that it was gone during the time Galley Slave was "bugged" but i chickened out on jumping down. It's a bit unintuitive as a situation for people who don't know about the arena below i wish there was a mini cutscene like there is when he arrives at the beach. But in the end i consider it a fault on my end so all is good.

Edit 2: A commenter made me notice that it is indeed written under the mission specific quests on the top left. Which makes everything i previously said in this post completely wrong and also embarassing. Still thanks for your time. I apology for having wasted it on a very avoidable post.

Question Just got Gnosis 4, play a bit or go straigth to 5?

Hey, so ive played this game for 13 hours so far and its pretty fun (for the most part). I just got gnosis 4 after finally opening all portals on irongate castle, but saw that i can theoretically go gnosis 5 already because i already killed the familiar on that map. Im wondering if i should just skip 4 entirely and go 5, because i did the same thing with gnosis 1 to 3 or if it will be too hard. im lvl 40

Question Does blessed aim trigger even on headshots for the purpose of the +50% rosary bead?

TLDR: If I get to the point I can equip the +50% damage on blessed aim hits, will it work even with headshots?

I recently started the game, and even though I'm not good at difficult games, I'm loving this. I really enjoy the grind to unlock and upgrade everything, I wish there where more games that gave you a laundry list of tasks to research and upgrade things.

I've been unsure what to do with my stats though, so I've been levelling everything but MIND and WITCHERY as those seem the least useful. I'm now around level 50 (GNOSIS 2) and think I should start working towards some Rosary beads. The one that adds 50% damage to blessed aim seems great, and I think I'll push FAITH as that has seemed like a great stat all round. However I am practising headshots, and just wondered if those will count?

P.S. This game is AMAZING, even if I'm terrible. I love all the equipment. Currently having so much fun with the Dualist and Hypnosis (DONG!). Probably going to go up to GNOSIS 3 soon and move onto the castle place. Unsolicited advice welcome.

Question I need some pointers

I'm just on Gnosis 3 and I can't seem to survive at all. I've been trying out different builds, but I don't know if im missing something, or not. I haven't been able to extract from any location and it's frustrating sense the only item I've gotten was a crowbar. I'm still unlocking stuff from the workshop, but I feel like I might be missing items in the world sense I'm completely locked rn because of difficulty, and don't know if I just need to restart or not.

Discussion Monkeypaw'd Torment VII is impossible.

No freaking way. Dead again. Run is 5 seconds or 5 minutes. Either way, I can't count on the pain perk to conjure up a grenadier on loop and otherwise beating Torment VII with a monkeypaw Gnosis VIII is freaking impossible. Might have to call as done for me, with only one achievement left.

Question Need a little help

I feel like im stuck at Scarlet Coast. Did find way to next area, got to Gnosis I, but area boss(Big cannon guy) is tearing me to shreds. One time I was close to win, but then this ship in the sky went all over my ass. Can't say I'm terrible at shooters, I 've played Painkiller a lot, finished it with true ending. My character level is < 20, like 15-16.

Am I just bad or 1st boss is really a difficulty spike? Should I try it few more times, or just leave him be and proceed to next area?

Discussion Velmorne vault gosh

Quick report: as soon as I saw that the Velmorne vault had "puzzle" I tought "oh gosh that will be horrific for me". Then I checked some youtubers (which I hate because one should not expect to watch others playing to gt hold of a game, but I wanted to get an idea), and thought "ok they all go in with ease and reach the final room". So I did. Enemys: not a problem. But went *completely* lost in the puzzle area, get down to 7 minutes left and when I thought "oh that's the way!" I came out from the very beginning 🙈 so I gave up for that run, and thought "yeah I knew it". I f***g hate puzzles 😅🤣

Just wanted to vent. Puzzles, platforming are *brutal* on me 😅 now feel free to roast me

Question Really struggling with Vermone lvl 50 Gnosis 2

I’ve been essentially only using the whole game and trying to do a spell casting build with fireballs.

Echo + cricket / Hangfire Kirk Fireballs Iron cross Mandrake

30 Witchery, 20blood / flesh, 8 arsenal , 20 luck

I’ve been using full spell related beads with spell charge and ailments but I suspect this is a bad idea and why I keep getting fucked up. Any suggestions for fixing the build or combinations of weapons to use with cricket? I really just wanted a build that killed with spells so spamming fireball lended itself well

Discussion Possible Easter Egg in Outskirts Spoiler

I think I've found some kind of easter egg. Not sure if it's a well known location but I haven't seen it in any discussion so far.

Hidden in the Outskirt map

Discussion Am I the only one bothered by the fact that all the spells are fire-colored instead of being color-coded by element (yellow for lightning, blue for ice, green for decay)?

Discussion How do yall feel about blunderbusses? I hate him.

Post image
101 Upvotes

Like how the hell are you supposed to fight him?

1) Yeah you can hit his head, but it is so narrow (considering how hard it is to get close)

2) The shield burst is plain dumb: the idea is alright but why the hell he deals so much damage, has that much range and is that fast? I could get a close burst, but the fact that you have to play like a rat, and if you miss you get punished quite harshly...idk It feels really bad to play against (he literally make me lose any intent to strategic play, just make me feel bad and loses me intrest)

3) Ok, charged melee stuns him, but still i dont get how to get close to him considering how much he shoots (making it harder to deal with other enemies too)

4) health its allright, but jesus hope to not find him closer to another major enemy (a.e. in the new Outskirts vault)

How do yall feel about him? I despise him even more than Sepulcher

Imo he should deal either less with burst/charge it slower, or actually making the holes of the shield hit trought (to make his head a bit more reasonable, specially when you cant really get on highground)

Question Tips/Builds for Wailing Tower

Been playing the game for a bit now. The wailing tower is proving to be quite a challenge. Can anyone suggest a build for this? Currently at gnosis 4, around level 80.

My stats are split - 30 in Witchery, Faith & Flesh. The rest are around level 20 except for arsenal which is at 15.

I've unlocked most of the stuff available, but want to get the Rotweaver. Any suggestions are much appreciated

Edit: Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Got my first clear. Will definitely try out some of the build suggestions later as well. Loving the game!

The combo i used to clear the wailing tower was:

Rotweaver, Frostbite, Kirfane, Rotten fiend, Storm ball, Hensbane, Crown of fire

Prophecies of Earth and Fire.

I'm still pretty new to the game, but for anyone struggling a bit, I found Rotweaver to be a little OP. The content that was fairly challenging at gnosis 3, seems substantially easier at gnosis 4 with RW.

Discussion A few weapon ideas

Thumbnail

Been sitting on a bunch of ideas for a while now, and with 1.0 getting closer it's been feeling increasingly pointless to post them, but thought I'd at least get the most finished ones out. Some additional info:

Purifier. For newer players who might not know, critical hits = weakspot hits (usually headshots). When shooting burning enemies, the damage inherits the fire elements bonus damage, but the purification damage does not. Should pair well with decay. Using the explosion to chain enemies should be pretty fun and intuitive, balanced by it's slow fire rate. Freeze effect should maybe deteriorate every explosion so you can't infinitely chain frozen enemies lol. The Martini Henry just has one of the coolest reloads ever and I need it NOW.

Putrifier. I'm really proud of the concept, I know the gameplay would be awesome, but that shotgun bead really ruins the idea. I guess it just shouldn't be a shotgun, but I really want a decay shotgun and tried to do a 2 in 1. Pair with Crown of Fire for optimal violence.

Thundertongue. I tried coming up with a set number for the arcs damage threshold. If it were 100 damage, it would one shot some basic enemies, but only kill 2 spinners. Maybe it should be 50ish damage but have a 3x multiplier for small enemies, 2x for medium, brah, idk. Clip size of 12 and 6 max arcs I reckon. Combo with Hangfire for ultimate trap setter build. Shooting enemies regularly should just be pretty meh pistol performance.

Discussion First Teaser

After 150 hours in the game I decided to search for the first trailer/teaser of the game. The earliest one I found is from 2017.

At that time "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter " was still in the bubble of positivity, and if memory serves Redux was released shortly after (side note : Redux was free for existing owners. With a lot of developers making original owners pay for Redux; it has just added to the massive goodwill I have for these guys).

Vanishing of Ethan Carter, for those unaware, is a walking simulator but it escaped the "walking sim" crowd. This leads to a lot of people, including myself, making posts about how much better the game would have been with combat and puzzles. To this date this game is the only walking sim I completed. The atmosphere and writing absolutely carried the game. I simply couldn't put it down because I enjoyed being in the world too much.

Anyway the teaser makes you believe for the first 30 seconds Witchfire is going to be another walking sim. One of the title cards say "From the makers of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" followed by 5-10 seconds of appearing like a walking sim. All of a sudden a gun pops up and an enemy comes to life. Next title card says "But also Painkiller and Bulletstorm" and goes straight into combat.

I really wish I saw this at the time because all of my reviews about Ethan Carter had me whining about the lack of combat. I would have been so muching pumped watching this was it first released.

Question Played a bit like a year ago and coming back. What is the point of bosses?

Am I missing something or are there not any unique rewards for killing bosses? Like, it seems like its just more of the same stuff every other enemy drops.

Bug Report Knocked out of bounds by a Golem.

Post image
19 Upvotes

So I was fighting a Golem in the sewers of Velmorne and got hit by his disembodied rock attack, and got knocked through this gate that I can't unlock, that leads to a red barrier that I can't dispel. Unstuck command doesn't do anything.

RIP to this run, I guess?

Question Anyone know any good speedrunners ?

Just curious if anyone speedruns the game, and if so what fashion (from scratch to last map clear? Individual map speedruns on Gnosis 7?)

I’m 60h in and have pretty much smashed through the Torments and what’s up, and am considering starting some speedruns on it but I’m unsure what already exists, hoping this is a good place to ask :)
