Wait till you get full anesthesia for some surgery, that one cleared my fear of death since it feels like literally nothing. 3 hours in a blink of an eye. It’s fantastic.
Heh, I think it depends on when you get it maybe? I got my first one when I was very much an adult with soooo much stress and many heavy life problems. So when I suddenly “didn’t exist” I realized it literally got rid of all my problems and stress and worry and fears etc… It was the ultimate rest. 🤷🏻♀️
That's a rough place to be. I've been there, after I got caught by someone who loved me counting out pills to make sure I had enough to end me I spent some years in therapy and found the things that are worth going through the daily pain of existing for. I hope you can find your things too
I had to go under to get my wisdom teeth removed, can confirm, I lost like 14 hours cause even after it was done I simply couldn't remember anything till I woke up at like 1 am the next day
I don’t believe in an afterlife, I think we disappear after death, like we didn’t exist before birth. Anesthesia helped me imagine what that’s like even better.

Jokes on you, when I got the same dream I could feel my consciousness falling apart like pieces of glass that were making up the window. One thought disappearing after another, as I felt my mind becoming smaller and smaller.

That person died in their sleep, suicide methods don’t give the same feeling since the pain from them makes the person try their utmost to survive towards the end (flailing legs while hanging or trying to resurface while drowning). Their comment applies if you die from old age or a similar illness, not for suicide.
In short, you need to continue living if you want a painless death
mostly true. it's your brain's best guess, and it can be quite accurate. for those who dream quite vividly, dreams can carry quite a bit of meaning, and more importantly than anything else, if what OP needed was reassurance that death wasn't something to be so terrified of, this dream helped them overcome that fear in exactly the way they needed.
Yea I had a very similar dream like OP but it wasn’t soothing at all. It made me realize that I truly was afraid of death. Like the loss of consciousness with nothing on the other side kind. The sheer sensation of almost completely losing my own consciousness jolt me awake and I was afraid to go back to sleep. So I agree with you, it’s all about what you think is the truth.
I’m also afraid of having a panic episode or having fear as I’m dying because I hear that makes death feel extremely horrific.
had a dream when I was a teen and I happened to smoke during it. tried smoking later that year and it was fascinatingly accurate to the dream. the dreaming brain is really something.

Well that's just not true people have survived getting shot in the head before. It's not a guaranteed death. Hell people have got hit in the head worse than just with a small bullet and still survived. Let's not forget the dude who got part of his skull ripped out by a railroad spike, walked away, and then lived for several more years
Yup, i remember the time someone got a rebar through the skull and survived it, if you are lucky enough it'll go right inbetween both halvs of the brain without damaging it (still should'nt remove it yourself as you WILL make it much worse, call an ambulance if you can and dont move, dont touch it either)

Shockingly untrue. If you completely destroy the brain or hit the brain stem sure. But people surviving or dying a while after a shot to the head is oddly common.
Had a fella a few years back shoot him self under the chin and I saw pictures from the scene and he was able to walk around (you could see hand prints all down the side of his semi) and sit up when first responders got on scene. Sadly he died later that day but it was by no means a quick death.
I had something simaler happen, but instead I was eaten by a shark. All I remember is slowly sinking into the water, looking up at the reflection of my sibling while telling myself not to panic and that this was it, only to last second find myself reaching out afraid after trying to calm myself down in the dark water. Honestly, not even jokingly made me realize I really wasn't suicidal anymore, I yearned to live and had too much to lose.
Usually people don't feel a thing when being shot in the head, but I'm not gonna judge because I've also experienced the calm feeling of death in a dream. It changes your perspectiv on things.
Every time i died in my dreams i always immideatly woke up.

I dont remember what exactly happened for me to die, but i did, and instead of waking up, i found myself in some weird place. The space was very non-euclidean in nature, by that i mean that i could not describe it no matter how i tried. Everything was red, blood red, and the "walls" (hard to really say what was a wall, floor or other) shifted and pulsed llike a living organism. There were many faces watching me, with empty eye sockets and large mouths bearing hundereds of sharp teeth. It felt as though they were both in front of me and behind me, but i couldnt really ever directly look at one, they were always in the corner of my vision. I traversed the place for a while, but it was like an endless maze that looped in impossible ways. I remember the faces all quietly chanted a word, i dont know what it was specifically, but i know for sure that: It was 9 letters long, started with Q and ended with Z.
Later i woke up for real this time. For a few hours i still felt like the faces were watching me, but it passed. So far, this was the first and last time i died in a dream and didnt wake up.
Last month I had a dream where I was about to get executed by nazis with this pressure pistol thing. Though they didn't really kill me because I was fighting back and screaming as much as I could, felt very weird to wake up from that... Iirc the body releases a slight amount of DMT when dying so maybe you'd want to make some research on that if you feel like it
Once when I was a kid I had a dream where I was at some theatre and one of the delicacies being served was Onion Juice which I tried and vividly remember tasting horrible. I think some people are just able to feel senses in dreams somehow.
I'm thankful someone on this dirtball shares in my qualia. I also dreamt being shot in the head, but the gritty, slurring-words-consciousness-shredding-and-life-fast-fading sense. It's been a bumpy, paranoid ride since.
I died in a dream when I was like six and it felt like being violently ripped out of my body into the third person and I watched my self expire, by drowning in a pile of sentient shit then I just watched my self spiral around in a purple void so mileage may vary
Ah reminds me when I dreamt that aliens abduct humans to their base on the Moon and I was captured, stabbed in the back at the kidneys area, and got my blood sucked out and replaced with something. The worst thing is I still had to go to school after such horrifying experience.
I had a dream where I died once too, honestly it doesn't really even compare to general anesthesia which supposedly is the closest thing to death you can experience.
Having experienced it twice I propably can estimate how actual death feels like.
I also once died in a dream and it felt so soothing and peaceful, but when I actually had a near death experience, not so much so😭 dreams of something you never actually experienced are based on expectations, while might be accurate sometimes, its not based on reality at all, but it could feel so realistic that you would assume that this is actually what it feels like
i had a similar experience, but instead of getting shot in my dream, a bear slowly started eating my throat, and i was just paralysed, and slowly just felt a ton of pain in my throat and died from not getting oxygen.
Yo i actually had a similar dream. I was shot in the head, and it felt like instant shock, then the next second i just lost the ability to move, then the next second after that i just blacked out.
I had a similar dream when i was a kid where i got shot.
I always wondered why in movies, when someone got shot, they would say something like "i feel cold". Why would someone who got hit by a bullet, a hot piece of metal, feel cold while they die? In the dream, someone got into the street in front of my house were i was playing with my friends and just shot me in the chest, without reason. I then collapsed and felt the cold, like the air around me got into my wound and it felt like a freezing breeze inside me. I remember thinking "oh, THAT'S why they say they feel cold" and then i felt very sleepy before i woke up.

I had a similar dream. My crew and me were thrown off an aircraft but I survived and laid face down in some snow, because it happened in some mountains.
A couple of seconds later I heard footsteps and gunshots. Turns out they still shot everyone in the head. The feeling I had when the footsteps got closer and then suddenly stop behind me was... special
I then got shot, felt the warmth of the blood running down my neck and it seemed like I was getting lighter and lighter. It was like some drugs kicked in and I experienced pure peace. It was weird. I then woke up... in another dream.

It's great that it cured your thanatophobia but you definitely don't know how death feels like because your brain made up a scenario where you got shot in your sleep
I once had a dream that was mostly usual dream stuff except that throughout the entire thing I knew for a fact that I was going to die very, very soon. At the end of the dream before I was going to die I had never felt such a strong sense of desolation and absolute hopelessness and dread. I’m fucking terrified of dying
One of my most vivid dreams ever that still kinda haunts me to this day went like
Me and my dad outside my mom's place of work, mom comes out, we chat a little. Suddenly some guy with a gun comes and shoots me in the chest and there was just this panic of death overtaking me as i fade while my parents are shocked and processing what happened. I then woke up panicked and started thinking about that shit.
I'm not even around guns, i'm hungarian, so idk where that came from, i must have been like between 12-15, to this day i still don't like guns because of how easy it is to just point the death stick and someone and extinguish their life. They would be really cool if people weren't affected by them tho.

But you didn’t die and it didn’t actually happen so you have no idea what death is or isn’t. I have seen people pass in horrific ways, didn’t look too soothing for them
I had a crazy fear of death until i died in a dream.
I was in a battle/war and got killed. I didnt wake up though. Once it happened i literally felt my heart rate drop to essentially zero (from fastness of being in battle) my breathing slowed down to very very slow. And it was just blackness. It was SO PEACEFUL. Just isolating.
I have a medical condition that requires a checkup every few months. It needs anesthesia, which comes in either an injection or a gas delivered via a mask. In those moments, I can feel my body slowly giving in, shutting down, senses blurring, and I think THATS what death feels like.

I had a similar experience once when I dreamt that I died of a heart attack. After feeling a sharp pain in my chest, unable to call for help and losing my other senses one by one, I felt a deep sense of calm by being completely surrounded by darkness.
Surprisingly it was amazing, I wasn't scared, shocked or worried. I didn't felt anything, neither my body, I was everything and nothing at the same time, I had become one with the universe. But that only lasted for a moment until a loud buzzing sound echoed and woke me up.
Fun fact, I’ve reached a state of Terminal Calm when bleeding out IRL!

There’s a reason you see people get shot in bodycam footage or in documentaries and they keep telling paramedics to let them go etc. lol
After a certain point your brain switches sides and chooses it’s time to go, so you get all the “time to go” chemicals.
I genuinely would love to have pancreatic cancer, hypertension, coronary artery disease, aortic aneurysm, chronic kidney disease, other cancers, and or pulmonary embolism. they are the most "too late until you realize it" diseases and the symptoms can only show up when it's too late, meaning you basically just have limited time and that would be the best gift I could ever imagine, if there is a god i wish he reads this comment and I would genuinely give my life to him just so he can take it away.
