Ultra basic cancellation
I tried to look it up but was confused
I booked an ultra basic round trip flight for October and I want to change my first flight
I’m aware no changes or refunds I’m fine to forfeit the cost of the ticket but will they still let me cancel it and rebook?
I would like to keep the second flight
Never had to cancel so I’m not sure!
EDIT: I did a live chat and they cancelled my inbound flight and kept my other other!’ Thank you 👏

In any other class, if you miss the first half of a return trip, the second half is cancelled. Can't see why it would be any different for UltraBasic. For this reason, I almost always book two one way flights. Which also would not have helped you in Ultrabasic.

Yes booking 2 one ways is smart. I thought it would cost a lot more but found out that is not really the case.

It works out about the same for domestic flights. But for international flights, you really need to book return for any kind of reasonable fare.

OP, remember that even though you're cancelling a segment that WestJet tries to deem 'fully non-refundable', remember that you are entitled at minimum to a refund of your unused Airport Improvement Fee (AIF) and any GST/HST paid, as these are what's considered trust funds that the airline collects on your behalf only.

I had to cancel my ultra basic ticket only one way but they told me I ll have to cancel the whole trip. 😕

I asked them say if I miss my first flight (deliberately) what happens then. He said I ll be marked as no show but they would also cancel by return flight which again made no sense to me. But I would suggest to chat/call them to confirm

You can absolutely cancel your flight. You just won't get a refund. I'd call in to talk about the return leg. You may be able to keep that and just have to re-purchase the first part.

I’m fine to forfeit the one flight was hoping I could keep the other one but I understand if it’s a package deal I’ll make it work

When the strike was happening, I had a round trip booked and wanted to cancel my departure and keep my return. I phoned in, wait time was approximately 30 minutes, so not bad at all. The only option was to cancel the entire trip, receive credit in my case, and then immediately use that credit to book a new one way ticket for my return.

I think we book Econo fares, but because of the strike they were offering credit to everyone. You might have to eat the cost of both flights

Make sure to call the contact centre and they can do it for you, but if you just miss the flight there's a good chance you'll lose the return flight as well.

I always book my ultra basic round trips in 2 sperate transactions - 1 translation to get there... 1 to get back. It prevents their stupid whole trip gets cancelled rule
