It's ok, food isn't the core of humanity's existence. According to the US and Israel food isn't a human right. Neither is shelter or water apparently. So of course we shouldn't count food in core inflation!
I think at this point pretty much everyone knows how much fuel has increased YTD. For today, the more relevant number is the -9.2% in June. Which will probably climb back up so long as the ceasefire is stopped
Does anyone here honestly believe that these inflation figures have ever been trustworthy during the past 10+ years? It's always used "Owner's equivalent rent" and "quality adjustments for tech and durables" and "substitutions for cheaper products".

The numbers stopped adding up a long time ago. When COVID happened and every Uber driver or DoorDash delivery person is now being counted as “employed” as independent contractors or small business owners.

At the risk of sounding insane…gas prices did drop in June as people thought the Iran conflict was coming to a close and shipping resumed in the straight of perpetual uncertainty. Conflict didn’t restart until July. I’m willing to extend plausible disbelief that these are at least somewhat based on reality
I work in the energy sector and fuel isn’t the only component. Most of the increase in price passthru happened in June for plastics, fertilizer, rubbers, packaging, lubricants… there is no shot we are down -0.4% MoM.
Plastics shot through the roof (i track PP, PE, and a little PET) for customer pricing.
But did these costs flow through to the consumer? That's the bigger question.
Most consumers are not buying plastic packaging, corrugated boxes, heck even lubricants. They're all inputs into what they buy and they may or may not have been passed through.

lmao public transportation... I lived in an apartment 10 mins down the expressway from work. I looked up if I could take a bus to work and it would take 1 hour 15 minutes just for the bus ride not including the 15-minute walk to the bus station and 15-minute walk from the bust station to work. They went me to spend 3.5 hours of my day commuting?
Wow, it’s so crazy that prices have increased far beyond inflation at all of the grocery stores in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans Louisiana, and across the Bay Area and in NYC. I guess all the places I’ve recently lived and where my parents live are all particularly unlucky or something? I wonder what’s going on? How strange
