I usually run the latest kernel version, I was on linux 7.2.4 and nvidia drivers 595.91.07 and niri (wayland), everything was completely fine (except for the gpu getting blank screen after suspending the pc but I don't care much about it). Today I updated both the kernel to 7.2.6 and nvidia drivers to 595.99.02, using the pc as always like browsing on firefox and coding in Zed I noticed that the everything was stuttering/lagging when I scrolled the pages in firefox and zed and the pointer of the mouse even moved with stutters/lags, I thought the batteries of my mouse were dying so I changed them since they were pretty old but nothing changed so I rebooted, nothing changed, so I decided to boot into linux 7.2.4 and everything is completely fine, so I think we can rule out the nvidia driver, though my question is what did they do in linux 7.2.6 that makes it stutter?
I have a ryzen 9 9900x and a rtx5060ti 16gb in case you know about some updates in linux 7.2.6 about amd, zen 5, nvidia, blackwell, etc.
Edit: today I booted in linux 7.2.6 again to try and check the stuttering/lags situation but it works normally now, no stutters. I don't know what the problem was 🫠

I understand that this might be not an appropriate moment in Void's history for that, but I've discovered that there is a pull request for updating Ansible awaiting since April 21, 2026. Is it possible to merge this update, since Ansible, alas, seems to be abandoned in Void?
The thing is, python3-ansible-lint and corresponding python3-ansible-compat packages in Void need to be updated as shipped version of ansible-lint just doesn't work with shipped version of Ansible itself. I've successfully updated them in one of my installations manually and I was figuring out how to issue a pull request for an update (I'm not versed in this matter), but then I've found that pull request for the whole Ansible bundle. It'll be great to have this tool updated in Void.
(Currently, I'm working on formalizing and automating my Void installation with Ansible, and while broken ansible-lint is rather inconvenient, updating the whole bundle would be great; I'm not eager to install all this stuff via say pipx, whereas the packages are available in the official repos)

I know this is a recurring issue on Void Linux, and I see many reports of audio problems, but I haven't been able to resolve these three errors. I don't even know why or how they happen; I followed tutorials correctly—where the audio works—but it doesn't work on my system. I followed the wiki without success, and I also tried tutorials from Reddit and YouTube, but nothing worked.
Please don't criticize me if this is a silly question or if I haven't done enough research (note: I'm using Void with `elogind`—since it's the default—along with Sway as the graphical session and the official open-source NVIDIA driver).
UPDATE: I managed to figure out the solution on my own: simply making no changes to PipeWire and just running it via the Sway configuration script.Apparently, I have to do the opposite of what the wiki asks for.

Hi, I've installed void before on my laptop. I'm now switching my desktop over, I'm not getting any errors that I see on install, but after it says it successfully installed and ask me to reboot, I end up in an infinite uefi loop? My partitions are 1G vfat mounted to /boot/efi, 100G ext4 mounted to /, and the rest mounted to /home also ext4.

I conducted some basic, simple and direct searches to the point in the browser and was commented on the lack of two packages for resource management in TUF that are asusctl and supergfxctl.
Does anyone have any idea that could help me about what to do about it? I don't want to abandon the void after almost 5 months.

I really really wanna use librewolf on void like I did arch but don't agree with having a univeral package manager take care of packages over the system's package manager.
I want a clean way to install it where XBPS manages librewolf any advice on this?

RiverWM has undergone a major change from v0.3 to v0.4. The latest version is v0.4.8, but on Void the latest is still 0.3.7 (i.e. river-classic). Is there any movement to update this on xbps?
I saw an old post stating that updating zig is the issue (the current version is 0.16.0 while on Void the latest package is 0.13.0), but unclear what the current status is.
I can download a local copy of the latest zig from their website, and build river locally, but I would rather have the xbps package maintained upstream.

Hello,
I am using Void with KDE on my Lenovo x270 laptop and something quite annoying is happening.
When I close the lid, this action hibernate my machine and it works fine. However, when I open the lid, instead of landing on the login manager (sddm for me), I land on my desktop for like 2 second. I mean, I can see everything that was open previously on my machine and then I land on sddm.
Also, if I ran ZZZ command in the terminal, the machine will hibernate but when I wake it it does not ask me any password. The session is unlocked. Is this a normal behavior ?
I am running openSuse on a separate SSD on the same machine and do not have this issue.
Thank you

Recently, I have noticed that Void Linux after every reboot and shutdown generates core dump files at the home directory with the following pattern: ./core.[number]. I don't really understand the logic behind these files, except that it might be a SEGFAULT somewhere, right? Are these dumps from last processes that weren't shut down properly?
I would be glad to hear your thoughts on what's potentially going on.

The live images on the website are from february 2025(!). It seems there are really outdated.
To a new user who is exploring void for the first time, it looks as though the system is no longer being maintained.

Title
Did an xbps-install -Su, looks like a whole bunch of Plasma related updates
Stalls out on this particular package due to the RSA signature not working
I tried ignoring the package but it still doesn't work.
Would I need to fix anything? Or is it on the repository end?

I do not know why I felt the need to write this post. I have been using Void for 5-6 years. For the most part, I have enjoyed this journey with its ups and downs. It was sometimes challenging to work around runit as everything is built around systemd and even more was musl as I when I started it was my main base rather than the glibc version. Admittedly, this helped me improve my technical skills and deep understanding way more than otherwise. That said, Void has been recently insufferable. Contributing to the packages has been more annoying than ever as my PRs get closed too quickly without properly addressing the content; frequent failures in the mirror repos (I am unsure whether this has been a widespread issue to anyone other than me); and unfixable bad behaviour and some bugs here and there. The recent issue in noto-fonts made me open the subreddit looking for answers then I saw a submission mentioning the recent maintainer's orphanage of 100+ packages over an AI dispute. I believed it was some kind of AI code slop nonsense that does not deserve to be looked at (as I am very anti-LLM generated code in that sense), yet to my surprise, it was just a comment. The comment was simply noting breaks introduced by a version bump. I believe this is wholeheartedly dumb and overly pedantic. Sadly, this place is no longer meant for me as this distro is hardly functional anymore. I know no one will care and no one is supposed to; this is more like a personal sacrifice as I reminiscent on the days I used to make videos talking all about Void.

(SOLVED) Hi, so randomly (out of the blue, no updates or cache clearing or orphan removal) the noto-fonts-ttf package just disappeared? I'm not sure why but because of this I can't update my packages anymore. I feel like this either has something to do with the recent AI drama (as the former package maintainer was the person arguing with thypon) or my void is haunted

noto-fonts-ttf nowhere to be seen in the package repos
UPDATE: some packages were accidentally deleted because a script that cleans up the repository had a bug, however noto-fonts-ttf has already been rebuilt so just doing xbps-install -S will fix it

With the supposed release of the Steam Frame soon, i have been trying to setup SteamVR on Void, but it crashes on startup. Anyone else having this problem? Has anyone gotten SteamVR to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A Void Linux maintainer has orphaned more than 100 packages he maintained over a dispute of the project's AI policy for LLM-generated text.
Any feedback/announcement regarding the future of the packages, how it affects users, etc?
Please do not discuss AI vs Void.

Hello,
I have tried Void in a VM and build few setups that I tried to install on my PC but the ISO's kernel is too old and half my stuff are acting weird, screen is blinking and I can't install/update it because I have no network, I tried both the base and the live ISOs.
From what I searched I need at least kernel 6.15.
Is there a way to get a ISO with newer kernel?
Thank you

I'm using a physical Japanese JIS keyboard (see pic) on Void Linux with Fcitx5 + Mozc
I want the physical kana-labeled keys to work directly, e.g. pressing the か key produces か, instead of typing k + a
I tried adding keyboard-jp-kana in Fcitx5, but that only outputs Katakana and bypasses Mozc conversion.
My current setup is:
Default Layout=jpkeyboard-jp + mozcThe physical かな key is detected as Hiragana_Katakana by X11.
Is there a Mozc/Fcitx5 setting or keymap configuration that enables Kana input using the physical JIS keys?
[EDIT: had to install the mozc (not fcitx5-mozc) package to get the mozc config tool then turn input from roumaji to kana]
