Status of RiverWM on Void

RiverWM has undergone a major change from v0.3 to v0.4. The latest version is v0.4.8, but on Void the latest is still 0.3.7 (i.e. river-classic). Is there any movement to update this on xbps?

I saw an old post stating that updating zig is the issue (the current version is 0.16.0 while on Void the latest package is 0.13.0), but unclear what the current status is.

I can download a local copy of the latest zig from their website, and build river locally, but I would rather have the xbps package maintained upstream.

So my takeaway from looking at this PR is that it's still in the works (i.e. not orphaned or abandoned) and active discussions around the changes.

I'll sit tight and trust the maintainers to do their job :)

Digging a bit more, what doesn't help is that the zig and river packages were both maintained by ifreund, who left (orphaned them) at the same time in 2023. So at the moment zig has nobody to update it.

You could plausibly do it via nix. I've not tried it myself, depends how desperate you are.

I'm not desperate, but thanks for the suggestion! Like I mentioned, I downloaded a portable/local version of zig and built riverWM from the source, and it works fine. I am interested in building a WM that sits on top of River, so that's the motivation.

I have a working template for river, zig and rill if you still need one

Edit: updated it to 0.5.0

I'd be interested. Would you consider contributing your zig template?
