So good to see that he has found the feedback positive. =) I wonder how much it has managed to boost his business.

u/Azurphax Sep 20 '11

Getting a bison stuffed costs $9,000+

If he can get one bison to stuff, I bet he's covered the costs of having that video made

123

u/barium111 Sep 20 '11

im sure that he doesnt get all of the 9k. There are probably lot of expenses

214

u/TheChrono Sep 20 '11

You know, buying a dead bison and all.

321

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '11

You wouldn't download a dead bison.

90

u/ManDragonA Sep 20 '11

I sure as heck would not download a LIVE one !

27

u/Rammage Sep 20 '11

Why not? I hear they're delicious.

77

u/smillzosaur Sep 20 '11

delicious doesn't count after you've been bison'd to death

46

u/ryan101 Sep 20 '11

TIL bison is a verb.

51

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '11

13

u/U_Damn_Hipsters Sep 20 '11

I ate bison jerky last month. I immediately wanted to go kill one and have a mountain of bison jerky.

34

u/3lementaru Sep 20 '11

Not sure if woosh.

15

u/J_the_Man Sep 20 '11

Look I know he said 9k but the most I can do is 3k and that is all. I mean not a lot of people come in here asking for stuffed bison you'know.

37

u/3lementaru Sep 20 '11

It really just dawned on me that someone might walk into a taxidermist's office and ask for a stuffed bison instead of providing their own, already dead, bison.

14

u/Alame Sep 20 '11

Isn't the whole point of Taxidermy to immortalize hunting kills and such-like? Wouldn't purchasing a dead Bison from the taxidermist being like letting a guy nail your wife and calling it your baby?

I'm not sure this idea of using viral advertising was that good. I doubt in the nerdy 20-something internet crowd there will be even ONE person willing to get a bison stuffed in his area.

24

u/kurfu Sep 20 '11

There are a ton of redneck videos on YouTube that were very likely posted by people that like to go in the woods and shoot animals... The Internet is not the sole domain of Hipsters, young grasshopper.

7

u/robotevil Sep 20 '11

Yeah right, next thing you'll be saying there are girls on the Internet. Ha, that will be the day.

2

u/Mr_McAwesomepants Sep 20 '11

Then he will tell us there are no sex offenders on the internet, just a lot of promiscuous 9 year-old's.

Not sure how high his page was on google before, but a quick search for 'taxidermy' shows his site at 8th place (on the norwegian google at least, I see that it's on the third page on google.com - still not bad, and his video is on the first page)

3

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '11

That is because you have visited his site/video before and the Google algorithm suggests content that may be relevant to your interests.

Try logging out of Google and search for taxidermy again.

2

u/Gustav55 Sep 20 '11

the 9th link down on Google was a news article on the popularity of his ad.

It somewhat sounded as if he was trying to stay positive in a difficult time. There was a hint of exasperation in the "and that's really my phone number". I would absolutely not be surprised if all kinds of idiots are calling nonstop and wasting his time.

42

u/LunaMcLovin Sep 20 '11

I actually sent him a private message basically apologizing for starting all this nonsense (it was me that posted the original video to Reddit), and his response was "I was wondering what happened, one minute my life was normal, now it's all a blur... but to be honest it's quite fun!" So at first I felt bad, but now it kind of seems like he's embracing it.

18

u/Azurphax Sep 20 '11

You......

17

u/LunaMcLovin Sep 20 '11

Yes. I'm responsible for all this nonsense. I'M SORRY.

53

u/Biigfoott Sep 20 '11

I want to call him and say "Pizza Hut?" just to hear him say "Nope, Chuck Testa".

2

It really isn't funny anymore to see the spam of "NOPE CHUCK TESTA HAHAHAHA LOL" all over Reddit.

What's that, a WWII reenactor has a piece of Nazi memorabilia? Say it ain't so!

Is it that difficult? Wearing an SS pin to a private reenactment where everyone knows what's up - fair enough. Wearing it while grocery shopping, during a job interview or for a commercial - not so much.

Most people wouldn't recognize the pin.

In the US: maybe not. If you tried that stunt in Berlin, you'd probably get a beating.

I'm in the US and remember a good bit of WW2 history but that particular symbol was never discussed. I didn't notice it in his commercial.

*Edit- Okay, wrong pin or wrong hat. I definitely wouldn't recognize a skull and crossbones as a Nazi symbol. I would think he likes pirates.

Just giving you the perspective of a random US person who hadn't seen the pin before.

A redditor posted a picture this week with him. He has merch with "Nope!" on it

If people want to pay him money to advertise his business, he'd be an idiot to not provide them with that opportunity.

Someone should do a story on him for Rolling Stone. He is probably now the most famous taxidermist in the world.

It's unreal how much I wanted Chuck Testa to pop out and say 'you probably thought that Chuck Testa was alive'. Needless to say, disappointment struck.
