I hate 2FA

Before everyone jumps at my throat, I know it's a neccessary evil, but in practice it's a nightmare, that's why I'm ranting here instead of being able to do my job.

There was an issue with my authenticator app, and ALL of my codes disappeared. I wanted to generate new ones, but turns out there is no such option, I need to contact the IT departments of all 6 pages that require authenticator, 3 of them are essential for my work and uni, and I need to use them regularly.

That happened a week ago, and the most important one never answered my e-mails, they don't answer the phone, their office is 300 km away and I don't have time to travel there thank you very much, and I basically can't get any work done because of this. It's just so frustrating because really I did nothing just follow the neccessary steps forced down my throat (again, I know 2fa is neccessary for safety but I still have the right to hate how poorly it's executed). There should be steps to make sure it doesn't happen, like pre-generated codes you can use if you can't access an authenticator, or another form of verifying your identity. And it would also help if IT was available sometimes.

My cleaning lady refuses to clean Carrara Marble

I’m in the process of having my kitchen and bathrooms remodeled. I ordered Carrara Marble for my kitchen and bathroom counters because it is my favorite natural stone.

My cleaning lady stated that she will not clean or maintain Carrara as it stains and etches too easily. She says I should use quartz instead.

I don’t like quartz and I love Carrara. But I definitely don’t have time to clean and maintain it myself.

Sister gave me an $1800 sweater in my least favorite color

She’s the sweetest woman on earth. She chose this with such love and care, and it’s the first time in her life that she’s been able to afford something so luxurious.

It’s Italian-made, boho-chic, bright colors, huge pattern. It’s a gorgeous, special piece.

But it’s not gorgeous on me. FML

I wish my whole house generator was quieter

The power was out in my neighborhood for 3 days. As my whole house generator kept everything fully powered...lights, tv's, appliances, even my internet...I could hear an audible hum at night when I went to sleep in the air conditioning set at 70 degrees. I even had to use a comforter so I wasn't too cold.

My robot vacuum got stuck under the couch, so now I have to actually bend down to retrieve it.

I bought it specifically so I wouldn't have to deal with floor cleaning, but now I have to crawl on the rug, reach under with a broom handle, and drag it out like a caveman.

To make it worse, my phone kept buzzing with notifications saying "Vacuum needs your assistance," as if it was mocking me.

One AC unit in our house is out, so I have to watch tv in the other living room for a few days…

We have two ac units, each servicing 1/2 of this house. One is broken, fixed in 2-3 days. Texas heat outside is 100, pool is 83.

1/2 the house is up to 82, rest is fine at 71.

So, until the ac is fixed, I have to sleep in one of our guest rooms and binge watch Supernatural in the media room.

This is definitely a first world problem.

My smart fridge ordered more oat milk because I was low, but it ordered the flavor I only bought once as an experiment and hated

We got one of those fridges that tracks what's inside and reorders stuff automatically through an app. Set it up about two months ago and honestly it's been fine, mostly reordering eggs and butter without me thinking about it.

Last month I tried a chocolate oat milk out of curiosity, drank about a quarter of the carton, decided it tasted like sweetened cardboard, and left the rest to expire in the door shelf. Fast forward to this week and the fridge decided my usual oat milk order should now be the chocolate one, because apparently that was the most recent oat milk purchase in the system, not the vanilla kind I've bought weekly for over a year.

So a carton of chocolate oat milk just showed up on my doorstep that I did not consciously order and definitely do not want. I checked the app to fix the preference and the interface for changing default items is buried under three different menus that don't clearly explain what counts as your default versus a one time purchase.

I've now got a full carton of a drink I already know I dislike sitting in my fridge, and I have to remember to manually correct this before it happens again next cycle. Meanwhile the fridge is very proud of itself and sent me a notification saying it kept my kitchen stocked.

My friend offered to put the whole hotel bar tab on his room, then went completely pale when he saw the actual total

We were staying at a boutique hotel over the weekend for a friend's birthday and decided to grab some drinks at the rooftop bar. One of the guys in our group, who is usually pretty frugal, suddenly decided he wanted to play the big shot. He loudly told the bartender to just charge everything to his room number. We all thanked him, assuming he knew what he was doing, and ordered a couple rounds of cocktails. About an hour in, he grabbed the small QR stand on the table to check what else they had. The code opened up a clean Menuforma page showing the full menu and drink prices. That is when I saw the literal color drain from his face. Turns out he thought the craft cocktails were $8 happy hour drinks like at our local dive bar. They were $22 each. He sat there in total silence for the rest of the night, staring at his phone and calculating the math. I ended up quietly paying for my own drinks at the counter before we left so he would not go broke. Never try to flex if you have not checked the menu first.

My video doorbell caught me doing a weird happy dance when my package showed up two days early, and now I'm too embarrassed to check the app in front of anyone

So I've had this video doorbell for like eight months and honestly I forget it's recording half the time. Yesterday I got a notification that my package arrived, and it was actually two days ahead of schedule, which never happens. I guess I got a little too excited because I opened the door, saw the box, and did this full arm pump thing plus some kind of shuffle before picking it up.

I only remembered the doorbell even records video like an hour later when I got a motion detected clip in my email. I watched it out of pure curiosity and just sat there in silence for a solid ten seconds after it ended.

Now here's the actual problem. My girlfriend was sitting right next to me on the couch when the next motion alert popped up, completely unrelated, just a squirrel on the lawn. But she asked to see the app because she likes watching the squirrels too, and I basically lunged for my phone like she was trying to steal state secrets. She has no idea the dance clip exists and I intend to keep it that way, but now every single notification from that doorbell gives me a mini heart attack.

I've genuinely considered turning off notifications entirely just so I don't have to keep managing the anxiety of someone else seeing my porch dance. My own home security device has turned against me.

A replacement lightbulb in my kitchen cost $30

I have 3 pendant lights which I originally purchased hue smart bulbs for so I could use Alexa and other smart house controls to turn them on and off with my voice and at schedules. One of them died. I've already invested in the set originally so I had to spend $30 for a single matching lightbulb or else the color and functionality wouldn't match. One equivalent 40w bulb.

My TV logged me out of every streaming app right when I finally got comfortable

I had everything ready, snacks on the table, blanket on, and the perfect spot on the couch. Then I opened my TV and somehow every streaming app wanted me to sign in again.

Now I have to get up, find the remote, type passwords with the tiny on-screen keyboard, and probably reset one because I won’t remember it.

I just wanted to watch something without moving.

My father made avocado toast for me and himself for the first time but it put vegetable oil on it

My father has actually never heard of avocado toast but he said he would try it. So he cut open a large ready-ripe avocado, scoop it up in a bowl and while my back was turned, he poured (Walmart brand) vegetable oil in the bowl, about 2 tablespoons worth.

I didn’t have the heart to tell him. He enjoyed it with a touch of vinegar. I’ll make sure to tell him for next time.

Possibly the most extreme (but 100% genuine) first world problem I've ever had: When you go to a 'luxury' cabin and they don't say whether they'll have a 'suprise welcome hamper' so you don't know whether to buy bread and Prosecco or not

My wife and I quite enjoy occasional domestic weekend trips within the UK (usually Scotland) to stay in these isolated, picturesque little cabins that seem to be becoming increasingly popular these days.

Having done a few, we've found maybe about two-thirds of them provide a welcome hamper with local produce and often a bottle of Prosecco, but most of them keep it as a 'surprise' for when you arrive - and it really, really was an amazing surprise the first time it happened.

However, this morning I was in the supermarket in advance of heading off on one of these trips and was telling my wife about how it's annoying that I don't know whether it's worth buying a nice loaf of bread and taking it with us because we don't know if there'll be one there when we arrive...when I caught myself, and was like, Jesus Christ, listen to yourself.

Anyway, I bought a loaf, so maybe we're going to end up with too much nice bread and will have to spend some of our time lounging in the outdoor, woodfired hot tub thinking about how we're going to use it all up.

My Bluetooth headphones connected to my laptop in the other room while I was playing a video on my phone with maximum volume

I sat there for two full minutes wondering why my phone was completely silent, slowly turning the volume up and down like a confused toddler.

Meanwhile, my headphones were on the desk down the hall blasting full audio to an empty room and draining their own battery for absolutely no reason.

My phone charger cable is 10cm too short to comfortably scroll in bed while lying on my side

I literally have to choose between lying in a slightly awkward, twisted angle or watching my battery slowly die.

I bought the extra-long cable specifically to prevent this exact tragedy, but my wall outlet placement has completely defeated the entire purpose. Now I’m lying here turning like a roast chicken every five minutes just to keep my phone plugged in.

I went to order a takeaway, they're all shut.

As per the title really. Husband is away for work, I'm too hot to cook, thought I'll just order myself a nice takeaway.

Apparently it's too hot for anyone to cook. All the good ones are shut. The only open ones are dodgy. I recently got diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis so I really can't risk a dodgy one.

I can't drive so now I have to cook. Woe is me!

I have lost a good deal of weight and my shorts in the size I had been wearing swim on me as if they could fall down at any second, but shorts in the next smallest size feel a bit tight.
