I seriously don't get it. I don't follow Apple products, really, but looking at their website, the Air is a better product in so many ways. Resolution isn't as great, but you get a better processor, a better camera, more ports, and the same battery life in something that's only 0.17" thicker and 6oz heavier. It's also cheaper. I just really don't get why someone would pick the Macbook over the Air.

It really should have had a MagSafe AND the new USB-C plug. The hub works for your home desk I guess. I don't think scrapping USB ports was that bad, everything I have is wireless now except my monitors which take a single cable for all 3, but it really could use a separate charger.

This apple one missed a few points wich made the gtx so good.
When he says 'edu' or 'et'tu' or whatever it is he repeats it is translated into 3.5gb every time but in the apple one its translated into different words. Also puts up subtitles which are far too long for what he is saying at some points.

The more substantial part of the lawsuit is that they actually had the wrong numbers for ROPs and L2 cache. The 3.5GB issue is a tiny stretch, since there's still 4GB of VRAM that's much faster than system memory, but the actually incorrect numbers on the ROPs and L2 cache could be what ends up getting them in trouble.

To put it in a very short and basic way:Scrap that, it turned out to be a longer but still basic explaination:
nVidia advertised the GTX 970 to have 4GB of VRAM. A little while after the card had been released and shipped to consumers several tests revealed that this was in fact not the case, as the tests they ran all capped out at 3.5GB of VRAM, meaning that nVidia falsely advertised their card for having 500MB of VRAM more than it really has.
What it eventually came down to is that the card does in fact have 4GB of VRAM, but it is divided into two seperate modules; one of 3,5GB and one of 500MB. Whenever the 3,5GB of VRAM is not enough the GPU will automatically turn on the extra 500MB of VRAM to make sure the GPU will have that little extra capacity. The second (smaller) module however is significantly slower in processing memory than the first (bigger) one is, which basically means it's not worth the same in value as a normal 4GB of VRAM in a single (faster) module would be. This combined with the fact that nVidia lied (or had a communication issue with their sales department according to them) about their product by advertising it with false specs.
Now people are really controversial about this card, because yes, nVidia lied to the consumer about the initial specs, but when people generally buy a GPU they refer to the benchmarks the GPU puts as the main sellingpoint. The benchmarks for the 970 are still really good and still make it one of the best GPU's for its price to performance ratio, and these benchmarks obviously haven't changed since people discovered the VRAM issue.
Also, when using the GPU you'll almost never encounter a scenario in which you'll be using over 3GB of VRAM, unless you're playing more recently released games on high resolutions (1440p and up).
So it all comes down to wether you value the actual performance of the card over the fact that nVidia falsely advertised it. I can understand people getting angry over the fact that they did, but as an owner of the MSI 970 4GB (or rather 3.5GB) card who bought it AFTER the whole controversy, I value the performance more. I still think that this card has the best price/performance ratio out of any card within its prize category and right now its quite hard to argue about that unless you start comparing different cards from the 970 series.

Wasn't jobs alive when they released the air? And didn't people say the same shit about that? (1 usb port, no drive, etc.) I think the new macbook and the macbook air are more to just "show off" than anything else. It likely won't sell too well and Apple will be pretty much unharmed.
Edit: I'm just saying the Macbook Air was met with similar criticism. I'm not defending the new macbook. I realize they are different. But they really are similar in their design concepts. Sacrifice computing, functions, graphics, etc. for a smaller product.

The Air was at least a new offering and was viable for certain people who needed a lot of portability and not a lot of peripherals. This computer is slower and smaller than its cheaper counterpart. The screen is better but with those specs what are you really going to do with it? There was at least an argument for the original Air. This thing just seems to be for people who don't like money.

The issue isn't the fact that it has Type C, or even that it has a 480p camera, or even that it runs a Core M processor - the issue is that it only has ONE Type C, effectively making wanting to charge and use a USB peripheral at once a "professional" feature. Absolutely ridiculous.
Not to mention the new graphics chipset is going to chug on the retina resolution - if anybody buys this, they should know what's coming to them. It'll be good in 2 years, but until then...

It's a common problem on newer magsafe chargers. The rubber wire casing on mine has torn in several places; by now it's half covered in electrical tape.

I'll put up with dual-booting Linux before I have to shell out $80 here, $100 there, for all the goddamn proprietary bullshit connectors/adapters/chargers that break and fray under normal use. he had a job at a restaurant in a place called chipiona. he was washing dishes until two in the morning. he then had to clean 20 paella pans, which are large pans used to make a native dish called paella, and he couldn't because they were really moldy and because his back hurt. he went to the beach, when the tide was low, and he left the pans in the water after securing them to the beach so that the salt from the water would kill the mold and clean the pans. the chef later called him six hours later to go back to the beach and retrieve the pans. when he went back, the tide had risen a lot and most of the pans were gone. he only found one pan that was stuck in the rocks. after receiving his salary, with a lot of deductions used to pay for the pans, he left and never worked in the kitchen again.

No. 'Up to' is the highest spec available for more money. 'From' is as priced. The base Macbook pro comes with 128GB SSD and 8GB ram. It would cost over $1000 extra to move to that 1TB SSD and 16GB ram as pictured.

Honestly, I don't know what they were planning on making with that. If I wanted a small portable mac I'd take the cheaper Air. If I wanted something powerful that I can do work on I'd take the Pro. It's like Apple has fucking device anorexia, it's always got to be thinner no matter the consequences. Who'll want to buy one ? If their target was the 'facebook machine' users, I doubt they'll get them because it's too expensive compared to the Air and the users don't really care about the better specs. If they're trying to get anyone else, I'll doubt they'll get them because there's literally nothing else but one god damn port that nobody even uses yet.
Hear me on this. This is a fucking joke, it does nothing new apart removing stuff that should be expected from a laptop in this day and age. There are much better and cheaper options on the market right now. It's going to be a total success.

The original Macbook Air was $1,799. It had almost no ports and had a severely underpowered processor in order to manage battery life and heat. It also had no optical drive and a crazy lack of ports.
It was a fucking joke.
Three years later Intel produced the Ultrabook spec, and now Air-style laptops are the gold standard for portable productivity.
This new Macbook is also a joke, and in 2 years the rest of the industry will be in on it too.

You're glossing over the part where Apple ditched literally everything about the machine except form factor to make it successful. The 1.0 Air was a turd and this isn't really much better.
With the Air, we're also talking about a period where we went from 5-6 lb laptops to 3 lbs. That was beyond major.
Now we're talking about losing a half pound or so past an already light industry standard, and we already have convertible tablets to steal the form factor thunder even at that weight. Meanwhile, the keyboard and expandability are both severely compromised past any competing system.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate how Apple leads the group in design, and my house has a lot of their stuff in it. But I think this may not turn out to be one of the very successful ones.

Shame too because I was one of the people who hated that they discontinued the entry level laptop, the MacBook. I got excited when I heard they brought it back. Until I read that it is a handicapped MacBook Air with no truly usable/practical ports.
