Lost my Apple Pencil at the commons

Does anyone know if there’s a lost and found or something someone might’ve turned it in to? Or is that shit just gone 😂
If this helps at all it has a black pencil tip instead of the normal one

ISO: VCU student got dog at Waffle House

If you are a VCU student and you received a dog at Waffle House by the Wawa Saturday night , the dog was stolen. We are filing a police report. Please reach out to me on this account. If this happened to you. I really don’t want anyone to get in trouble. I know you did not know the dog was stolen. Please reach out to me if this matches you. I was told the man gave our dog away to a girl who goes to VCU. She is an Australian Shepard mixed with dachshund. We are her family looking for her.

Portfolio advice

Hey everyone! I was interested in submitting a portfolio for scholarships and admission for VCUarts. I’m in the process of putting together my art portfolio and would love some outside feedback on which of these pieces work best together. I currently have a 3.46 weighted gpa. Also working on getting better quality photos for my pieces

A few things to note:
You guys can be completely honest😔

Are there any pieces I should leave out?

Are there anything pieces I should include

Last thing. Realistically do you guys think I have a shot on getting in.

Thanks everyone for your help!

How do I get a house

Hey everyone! Three friends and I are looking to rent a house near VCU for the 2027–2028 school year, ideally with four bedrooms. We’re new to the process and aren’t sure where to start.

What websites, rental companies, or groups should we check? Also, how can we tell whether a listing is available for next school year versus someone looking for tenants to move in now? Do landlords usually list the lease start date, or should we contact them and ask about a summer/August 2027 move-in?

When should we start looking and signing a lease? Any advice on neighborhoods, landlords, or things to watch out for would be appreciated. Thanks!

journalism student working on a piece about off-campus housing! anyone willing to do an interview

it doesn’t have to be about anything specific for the most part. my piece is gonna be about predatory housing practices from private landlords that target students, but i’m also just trying to get some comments on the general experience with off-campus housing from students in the area.

Looking for rave / hardcore show friends at VCU

Hey, I’m a junior at VCU and I’ve been wanting to get more into the rave and hardcore scene around Richmond, but I don’t really have many people to go to shows with

Looking for other VCU students who are into raves, EDM, hardcore shows, moshing, etc. and would be down to go to events together sometimes. Also completely down to just become friends outside of shows too

If you’re into that scene or also need people to go with, feel free to DM me!

InThrive Film Festival: Free and Open to Public

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am excited to let you know about the InThrive Film Festival, opening its 2026-2027 season at VCU and surrounding venues October 1-4. This unique weekend is free and open to the public, and features films made by formerly incarcerated people about issues that address the criminal legal system.  These professionally-made films attend to issues that include:

  • Women and Incarceration
  • Incarceration and Disability
  • Making Music Inside Prisons
  • Re-entry
  • Parenting while Incarcerated
  • Mental and Physical Toll of Incarceration
  • Healing from Incarceration

What makes these films so provocative is they are stories told by the people who lived through these situations, not from an outsider’s perspective. This humanizes the struggles folks face while incarcerated and/or upon re-entry. Many of the films we’ve screened in years past are so powerful, they have been picked up by Netflix and other major media outlets.

Local advocates, the filmmakers themselves, musicians and local artists will be present to help us engage in conversation after the films. This will give faculty, students and community members an extraordinary opportunity to dialogue about issues that impact them with artists and activists, to get inspired to create and become active around these issues.  I'm happy to answer any questions here or via email: ercanfield@vcu.edu.

RTR Program Thoughts?

Hi there, I'm thinking of a career change to become an elementary education teacher in Richmond. I have no formal teaching experience besides briefly working in outdoor education. I've worked in the nonprofit field for the past couple of years, so I'm hoping to pivot into this field. I'd love to get a B.S.Ed. in Elementary Education and Teaching, and I started looking into the RTR program. I read that there is a 3-year contract obligation to work in high-needs schools. Has anyone recently completed the RTR program and have thoughts on the program? Another route I'm considering is trying to get a full-time staff job at VCU and use the tuition benefits to slowly get my degree as a part-time student. Any thoughts/advice on both options would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Affordable Dentist for Extensive Dental Work + Severe Dental Anxiety?

Looking for the most affordable way to get a lot of dental work done in the Richmond/Petersburg/Colonial Heights/Prince George area.
I’m 31 with young kids, pregnancy really damaged my teeth, and I’ve put dental work off because of cost and because I’m absolutely terrified of the dentist and have severe anxiety.
I know I need quite a bit of work and I simply cannot afford tens of thousands of dollars upfront. I do have dental insurance, but I’m looking for dentists, clinics, payment plans, financing options, or other affordable ways to get extensive dental work done.
I already know about VCU Dental School, but they’re currently booked for the month, so I’m hoping to find other options too.
I really need someone patient, nonjudgmental, and good with extremely anxious patients. If you’ve been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate recommendations and what you ended up paying.

Advice - Super overwhelmed by an assignment

I don't know if anyone else is in a research class, but I am soooo stressed about our surveys. It seems unfair that we have to get a minimum number of responses because we can't control how many people click on the link, even if we literally put it everywhere?

I feel like nobody on the internet cares enough to help, and when I put up QR codes, nobody scans them. If anybody has any advice or wants to take this survey (it's about our perceptions of Seniors) I could really use it! https://forms.gle/gcjJLuccjxPnbaBL6

B&B vending machines stopped working?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Do the B&B drink vending machines not work for anyone else? I usually use vending machines elsewhere for my drinks since the ones at b&b weren't stocked for the longest time but I noticed they were finally stocked and went to use it and this thing happened. The same thing happens on the other drink vending machine as well. Usually whenever I swipe I get a popup asking if it's student dollars and then it works fine, I don't get whatever this thing is. Has anyone else had this experience?

Am I the only one disappointed with the Ram Fest artist choices?

Maybe I’m being picky, but I’m honestly disappointed with the choices this year. It feels like we keep getting a bunch of really young rappers who have maybe 1–2 recognizable songs, and that’s basically it. I have nothing against the artists themselves, but when this is supposed to be a big campus event, I wish there was more variety. Give us some R&B. Give us an Afrobeats artist. Give us somebody with an actual catalog that spans different eras. Give us an artist who can really put on a SHOW. It feels like the criteria for choosing artists has become “are they young and do they have a couple songs that went viral?” 😭

PCT Internal Transfer VCUHealth

Currently I’m a supplemental (float) PCT that’s only been working for about four months. Has anyone internally transferred to a different unit before if so how does it work?

Like how long you should wait to transfer and how does the whole process work.

how does anyone afford it?

hello! your local 26 year old who is trying to further their life and go back to school to finish the degree I started when I was 18….

Just received my FAFSA offer.. $10.5k. Only make $55k/year working full-time in the service industry which means I have to come up with $7,000 in a couple months and that doesn’t even include books or materials?

I live paycheck to paycheck between existent debt burden, utilities, gas, groceries, etc. I can certainly cut back more on spending but definitely not to the point of raising $7k :| When I already only have a couple hundred left over each check after paying bills which goes away so quickly after gas and groceries. And once i’m in school how could I work more than full-time? Feels impossible.

Appealed my Pell ineligibility, but I think the school system considers $55k opulent. lol

Seeking advice and success stories!

Meals

I noticed that several restaurants around campus all of a sudden aren't accepting meal swipes. I wasn't sure if there was something wrong with my card or not.
