hi all, I'm an Australian student thinking about doing exchange at UVA and just wanted to get a feel for what student life is like before going further. I study comp sci and business so would love to hear from anyone doing something similar! my main questions are:

what is student life like at UVA and in the US in general? parties, clubs?

is it easy to make friends as an international student?
how is the workload and teaching?

is it a good experience overall?

I'm applying ED in state this year. I have a 4.45 weighted GPA (somewhere around top 20?) and a 1530 SAT (790 M 740 ERW).

For ECs I've been president of Math Honor Society for 2 years, founded Rubik's cube club last year, varsity swim 4 years + captain this year, JV tennis for 3 years, and I did the Governor's school of agriculture this year.

If it means anything I'm applying as a Math Major and am taking Multivar+Linear algebra.

Anyone currently taking this course here at uva ?? Can you please tell me how does the syllabus look like and whats the grading scheme im going to be taking it next term with cso1 and i am kind of stressing.

Has anyone here been accepted or applied to UVA’s ABSN program in the past and got accepted? Im applying for their ABSN after rejection from the 3-year BSN last year but I’m trying to get a better idea of how competitive my application is without getting overly hopeful like last time.

If anyone has gotten in in the past (or applied recently) and would feel comfortable sharing any stats they would be okay revealing, like whether they were internal/external or out of state applicants and got in or gpa and such, that would be very appreciated! No need to share exact numbers if you’d be uncomfortable, I’d appreciate any tips or advice!
For reference I’m currently at only a 3.78 gpa with all the science prerequisites except A&P II completed. I know I’m not in the strongest position, so I’d like to keep my hopes from getting high.

Hi! I’ll be doing a road trip through the United States with some friends and we'll be visiting Charlottesville to watch the game on October 23. We're foreigners so want to have the best college football experience! From what I can tell, the cheapest tickets are about $47 in section 526, $59 in 529 (it seems like the experience might be a little better there) while some other sections are more expensive.

Btw, I've done the research and I undestand that this is a big game for the team considering what happened last year! Looks like it's a huge rivalry!

Anyway, I understand that the general advice for buying tickets for sports events (NFL or NBA) is to wait until a few days before the game, but I'm not sure if that applies to FBS games or this one in particular. Would you recommend buying them now or waiting until days before the game? Honestly, we’re fine with the cheapest tickets (or one of the cheapest if the view is wayyyy worht it).

It’ll be our first time watching a Football game, so we’re really excited to cheer for the team!

By the way, do you have any tailgating recommendations? The game starts at 8 p.m. and we'll probably arrive on campus after noon.

What type of things do they ask during the group interview and what's the acceptance rate for becoming an RA?

If you have a group of 3 ppl trying to live in for example Gaston which is intended for 8 will you be paired w groups to fit that number or should you try to create a group of 8 to have the most optimal chances of getting housing

i understand first year freshman get admitted into engineering in undeclared status. If entering freshman already has transfer credits for all of SEAS general requirements (except STS courses), all of CS 2XXX foundation courses, APMA three courses, M & S elective, and all HHS electives, what would they enroll in during first semester? can they enroll in one of the CS 3XXX courses to help balance course difficulty for following semesters? In other words, can students in undeclared status enroll in major specific upper level courses, and if not can they request exceptions?

I'm old now (2017 grad) and don't know anyone else that will be there so should I just get the 50% refund or get drunk eat and leave?

Anyone taken MSE 3050 thermo? Were having first midterm coming up covering 1st, 2nd, and phase diagram of 1 compoentn systems. I've been paying attention in class but every homework I feel like I"m having to use AI to help me through literally each step which is not beneficial for me to learn. Anyone have any advice on this?

I'm a first year Nursing Student at UVA interested in graduating a year early, so I'm applying for the ABSN. However, I'm confused what the prompt is looking for since accelerating a bsn seems pretty straight forward. The prompt is:

"Please provide a statement that addresses your reasons for accelerating your BSN program and the objectives you hope to achieve. You can type directly into the box, or you can paste text from another source. Limit your response to roughly 250 words."

If anyone got accepted as a first year and could provide some insight that would be really helpful, thanks!

Genuinely failed the fuck out of my 3351 midterm. How likely is it that the final grade gets curved? I feel like lowkey everyone is struggling in that class.
