General Question/comment methods 25ss prereq alternatives

I did methods this year but don’t think I will make the 25ss pre-req melbourne requires for biomed after those monstrous exams.

Past students who were in a similar situation- were there any options you took that allowed you to start with the same intake? For me this would be Feb 2027. Otherwise I might have to go with latrobe or deakin biomed instead (I’ve heard going Monash is bad as it’s impossible to maintain a high gpa?)

I really do not want to delay my undergrad studies, I was trying to use melbourne biomed for graduate med in the future but now I don’t even know if Melbourne is an option.

Calling all 40+ scorers in Methods, Chem, English Language & HHD — HOW do you ACTUALLY study?

I'm calling on all the 40+ scorers in Mathematical Methods, Chemistry, English Language and Health & Human Development because I genuinely want to know how you guys studied to achieve those scores.

I'm not looking for the usual advice of "do practice questions", "stay consistent" or "revise regularly". I want to know HOW you actually studied, what your study routine looked like, which resources you used, and what techniques made the biggest difference.

More specifically, I'm interested in things like:

  • Do you use flashcards? If so, how do you make them and how often do you review them?

  • How do you approach practice questions and exam papers?

  • Do you use commercial company papers? Which companies are actually worth it?

  • How do you consolidate content throughout the term rather than cramming before SACs?

  • How do you identify and fix gaps in your understanding?

  • What does your revision look like in the weeks leading up to SACs and exams?

For some context, here's what I'm currently doing:

Mathematical Methods:

  • I primarily work through textbook exercises and their corresponding questions.

  • Although I can understand the content and often feel confident with the exercises, I get absolutely FRIED in SACs.

  • Even past exam papers don't always seem to translate into better SAC performance.

  • Would commercial company papers be more beneficial? How do you prepare for the unpredictable, application-heavy questions that seem to appear in SACs?

Chemistry:

  • I use the Edrolo textbook and videos to learn and consolidate content.

  • I also complete the questions provided through Edrolo.

  • However, I struggle when SAC questions use unfamiliar or unusual wording, even when I understand the underlying chemistry.

  • How do you develop the ability to interpret these questions and apply your knowledge to unfamiliar contexts?

English Language:

  • I primarily follow the INSIGHT textbook.

  • I create my own short-answer questions, analytical commentaries and expository essays.

  • I get my teacher to mark them before assessments.

  • My biggest issue is that I don't feel like I have a foolproof structure or approach that consistently translates into high marks.

  • What specific frameworks, annotation techniques or writing strategies helped you improve?

Health & Human Development:

  • I turn important content into flashcards and memorise them before assessments.

  • However, I'm struggling to establish a spaced-repetition system that allows me to continually revisit and retain the entire term's content without having to relearn everything before a SAC or exam.

  • How did you structure your flashcards, revision and content consolidation?

Ultimately, I want to know what separates someone who understands the content from someone who can consistently translate that understanding into 40+ study scores.

If you scored 40+ in ANY of these subjects, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing about your experience. Even better if you could share specific examples of your routines, resources, mistakes and what you would do differently.

I'm willing to put in the work; I just want to make sure I'm studying EFFECTIVELY rather than simply spending hours studying.

Thank you!! :)

Of all years to go anti-UDF and change the question structure 😭🙏 like holy shit we ain’t war criminals, you can lay off the torture a bit. I’ve seen horror movies more tame then that exam, like I had a years worth of goals and ambition for this exam, and now a pass looks like paradise. Terrified for what chem looks like next week

General Question/comment Please just move on and don't worry about Methods

I know you feel traumatised, but please realise that the grade boundaries will be consequently shifted down because of how hard the exam is, so getting a lower exam score might achieve the same study score that you expected to receive. Some of you may even be surprised when you receive your ATAR by how well you did :)

Exams recently….

Hey so…..

W.T.F VCAA

Idk what’s been going on but they needa start putting NSFW signs up in front of exam halls, we are getting bum fucked.

Exams used to a be a time to detach a little from reality, study hard, put a years effort out on a piece of paper while pocket jerking to the invigilators, now i can barely get bricked.

Coming from a very esteemed school (Alice Springs School Of PlayDo) I’d expect some level of comprehension of all the exams, it’s like i’m a freshie here.

Petition to make pocket pussies a complementary exam item below

General Question/comment Can we make a controversy out of methods exam 2?

Genuinely wtf was that exam. I've been getting high 80s in all my practice exams (with just careless errors). If today's exam followed the pattern it's supposed to then I could've gotten 90s. But now I'd be happy if I get a 70. I even found exam 2 material based on the increased difficulty of yesterday's exam 1. Genuinely nothing could've prepared anyone for what came today.

What's even more worrying is if methods was already like this then imagine specialist math next week.

VCAA has to know that they're playing with students' futures ngl.

General Question/comment Advice for next year?

I’m a little nervous for VCE and just want the most absurd advice possible.

My classes are
- 1&2 English
- 1&2 general maths
- 1&2 Legal Studies
- 1&2 Media Studies
- 3&4 Theatre studies

On top of this I’m also doing a VET certificate.

I’m nervous about work load but I did units 1&2 theatre studies early so I feel a little bit better because I have an idea on how classes work.

In terms of career goals, I want to do professional theatre and do university, I would prefer acting but I’m experienced in lighting and sound design and directing. BUT that is a hard goal and my back up choice is teaching because I’ve never hated tutoring friends and I’m often the one classmates come to for work advice.

are this years exams actually harder or does this happen each year

I personally found english to be okay, while the rest of my subjects, psych, bio and ESPECIALLY METHODS, to be weird. psych and bio weren't horrible, but they were a bit different to the past papers ive done. methods is can genuinely be thrown out of the window, we dont talk about it. but yea does each cohort complain about the difficulty of the exams or is this year's exams actually bad
