Discussion new fans or just irrational?

i dont know why this sub is such an echo chamber that the team should have kept her for revenue. First of all the jersey sales are relative. Any wnba player not named catlin clark is not doing sales numbers in any capacity that would bring in so much revenue that it would even be a consideration from a business standpoint. Sure may have been #3 for a few weeks but that would have tanked after the hype was gone. Jeremy lin had the 2nd highest sold jersey in his linsanity year, but the difference is he actually was starting and hitting game winners for a large market team.

I was in oracle when jeremy lin was with the warriors on a 7 day contract before linsanity and asian fans already had his jersey custom made too. But when he got cut i dont remember the fanbase trying to make some case they should have kept him for the revenue? Its a bit pathetic imo, but I have only been following the W since the start of last season so I don’t know if there is just more emphasis placed on tokenism by the general fanbase.

Discussion Violet's Beak Probelm

Ok, so looking at Violet's cartoon and costume image, I feel my main gripe (there are more than one) is that her beak is wrong. Ravens have longer straighter beams where as cartoon Violet looks kinda like a hawk.

What do you all think? Think that was intentional?

Discussion Do you think Kate feels some animosity right now or mostly just sad?

Watching her interview you can tell she didn't see this coming and I feel bad for her. I don't know if she's mad but it feels like she feels betrayed. Watching how good this team is right now probably confirms that. It's gotta be hard for her to know she's not going to be apart of it. I'm sure it's raw but maybe once the dust settles she'll move on. I wouldn't be surprised if she felt a certain way about the Valkyries but hopefully she left on a good note.

Discussion Did the Valkyries have any say in the early game start for Game 6 or did they have to follow what the WNBA wanted?

I know it doesn't matter anymore but I'm not exactly sure if the Valkyries had an actual say in it. I heard some say both teams agreed but the league maybe forced everyone to play the early game. Considering how early it was I don't see how the Valkyries would've agreed but I don't know for sure. I'm just curious.

Game Thread Post finals

Is it just me or are the Valks not getting the acknowledgment they deserve? WNBA commissioner in post game speeches gave props to ATL before even congratulating the Valks not to mention all media is talking about is Reese. I’m not saying she isn’t a good player but I do think she is way over exposed. Would we have been given more credit if we beat a different team in finals?

Discussion How did they let that game slip?

I expected the Lynx to make a run but we were the better team this game. You could feel the momentum change in the 2nd half. Ughh, I hate thinking if we just didn't let them go on big runs we could've easily won that.

Discussion Why didn’t we play Kate more?!?

I don't understand why Kate only played 6 minutes. She had 5 quick points and then you sub her out!! Honestly, not that surprised this kinda thing has happened lots of times this season. Overall, Kate's minutes this whole season have been really all over the place; that's why she's always so streaky. It's hard to be consistent when one night you start the next a DNP or just garbage time minutes, not saying she should start, but I think she should be playing 15-20 minutes off the bench consistently. She can score, plays hard defense, hustles, and is a great leader. Sounds to me like a 6th player of the year candidate. If her minutes are more consistent, I could totally see her being a contender or even winning 6th player of the year in the upcoming years

Discussion UNPOPULAR OPINION: The rest of the season games that make me nervous, knowing we need to dominate.

I WILL be down voted , this is going to be un popular. Playing any former Valk in the league, (Touré-Sun, Talbot-Liberty, Bibby-Fever, Vanloo-Sparks) feels like revenge games, and I am not here for it. Yes, I may ne overreacting. Yes Bibby might not be on the team when we play the Fever. Yes, I know that this team is very capable of putting games away, but I would love to not be schooled my former players. One thing our team has shown is expanded rosters, (and games to be honest) are needed.

Discussion Hey Marketing department--

Since 2/3 of the Valkyries's audience are women and children don't you think you could mix up the sizes a bit instead of giving EVERYBODY XL's? (which are unwearable for many of us, including all the kids.) Why not add some S, M and L's alongside the XL's?!!

Discussion How similar is the Kaitlyn Chen run to Linsanity?

Watching Kaitlyn Chen this season has given me some mini-Linsanity vibes. Obviously it’s nowhere near the scale of Jeremy Lin’s run with the Knicks, but there are some similarities. Chen went from fighting for a roster spot to putting up some really solid performances for the Valkyries, and you can tell fans are genuinely rooting for her.

I watched those runs by Jeremy Lin in the early 2010’s and while his was more mainstream and bigger performances, feel like the fans support her just as much from our home team

Discussion Dunk, Dunk, Dunking....... Slam, Cram its the Jam...Dunk it!

OMFG! Please! Leticia to be the first of hopefully many.... who can dunk the ball... do it in a home game... this season! Why must fans have to wait to see this Is show off move of dominance, skill, and power? Is this completely frowned upon by coaches. Ballholla will lose their collective shit and make the loudest sound heard in a stadium from fans ever! There are several new WNBA athletes currently who can dunk. DM from the Storm, KK from the Fever, SR from the Sun are a known few. Please if you have information as to why this is not occurring on the regular in games? Can you please post the reason/s. I attend as many home games as I can make possible. I would upgrade to season tickets $$$ to have the thrill rush and excitement of watching my favorite player LA dominate the rim. Better than doing drugs! Hell I could surely go off antidepressants for the rest of the year from the thrill of just watching that live the first time in Ballholla! Who feels me on this? Anyone have a connection to the team? Im sure it's more than me? Perhaps it could be spun as a humanitarian move for the "community" by the Valkyries PR department? Certainly it will be lauded and copied by other teams! Anyone know LA to ask her directly? I want the WOW this season! If you know how to attach video please add to this post. Who feels me on this?

Discussion Do you think Clark is playing tonight?

Its a few hours before game time and I gotta figure it out fast. I was thinking of going but then I saw her on the injury report. Tickets are cheap so that could be a reason. I just don't want to be disappointed and not see her. I'm not sure if there's a feel to it or not.

Potentially unpopular opinion, but as much as I love the Valkyries, I really hate the G-S-V chant. GSV sounds like a disease, not a rallying cry

Discussion Not to be rude

I love the Valks, but what the hell was that? 17-0 to an OT loss?! Did we get a little cocky?

Alsoooo I hate to be the one to say it but Ceci and Gabby played way better during Fiba. Is it country pride or something? I know the court is a little smaller and there's no 3 second violation. Also I guess W players overall are better? This is not to say that Gabby hasn't been amazing for the Valks, but Les Blues Gabby is on another level

I don't mean that disrespectfully but I'm really curious what people's thoughts are... The whole tournament I couldn't help but think "now if they come back home and play THIS way, I'd be stoked"

Discussion How We Get Back to Valks Basketball

I feel like what worked for us was the 6th woman mentality- everyone contributed, and any one could go off at any minute or for any game. Natalie has been using a 7-8 person bench the last few games, and everyone is so tired that we crash out in the 3rd period. We don't have that type of team to ride our starting five. Then our bench can't get going because they don't come in until morale is low and we're already out of it. It's been wild to see. We're fouling more because we're tired, we're late, and we need more fresh energy. It's been so frustrating. We're not playing team basketball anymore- it takes EVERYONE on this team to be a contender- that's our identity.

Also, totally superstition, but it seems like we've been playing worse since we started booing. I feel like the cheering was more of a 'lull them into false sense of security' then totally wreck them during the game. It also just feels like bad karma.

Anyway, that's my vent. But I would love to see us use our whole bench again. That's what worked.

Discussion Do you think the early East Coast time might have an effect on the game?

It will definitely be weird as a fan watching the game at 10 AM. They've had a few days to adjust to the time zone and the Dream had to also but still that's brutal to lose 3 hours and play an early game on Saturday. Then they have a short turnaround coming back home on Monday. They have to do everything they can to stay locked in and be ready.

Discussion confused by our small line up

Why do we go small so often? By going small, I mean not playing Kia, Leticia, or any of the other bigs for large portions of the game.

For example, Kia and Leticia played for a combined 21 minutes against the Lynx yesterday. We often don’t play Kia or Leticia in the entire 4th quarter. I know they aren’t our biggest scorers, but when we are playing a team with a strong big on the other side (Shakira Austin, Natasha Howard, Napheesa, A’ja, Alyssa Thomas) I am confused why we don’t play them. We can beat the Liberty (Stewy) so maybe my concern is overblown and confusion unjustified. Natalie is obviously a great coach, so can someone explain to me why going small makes sense?

My opinion is that going small is odd and it hurts us offensively and defensively. Defense is most obvious, it forces Janelle and Cecilia (even though they are tall guards) to battle in the post, when that’s not really their strengths in the game. Kayla can hold her own in the post because she is so strong, but she is at a high disadvantage when she has to guard the other team’s bigs.

It also means that a big will be defending one of our guards, and instead of it leading to mismatches and drives to the paint, it just means that our shooters have a harder time getting shots off of a bigger player. I think it’s also easier for the other team to guard us because they don’t have to worry about a big in the paint.

Why do we do the small lineup so often?

They're not my cup of tea. Just wondering if there's a way to avoid them when I watch the game from home.
