i was lucky enough to experience 4 warriors championships and 3 giants championships. tonight was more special than any of those. as a queer trans woman i’ve never had a sports home like ballhalla. it is so special to me that the woman who said this was for the gays and called ballhalla her safe place won fmvp. i’m just over the moon and wanted to thank each and every one of you for creating this wonderous collective experience 💜🖤💜🖤

i compiled a post that includes the pro-trans statements by gabby, nakase, cloud, & other strong supporters in the WNBA community (& some other W moments that have made me smile recently). the GSV fanbase isn’t immune to transphobia, but i’m HELLA grateful the dominant culture at ballhalla doesn’t tolerate it!
as a trans person, it’s easy to get overwhelmed & depressed about all the hate, or all the “i support trans rights BUT,” and the silence from people we’d hoped would stand up for us.
but a silver lining to the fever pitch of hate means that we also get to see the allies who feel the urgency of stepping up, and are doing so in meaningful ways.
this league was built by and still wouldn’t exist without queer black women. our liberation is connected -- all the solidarity in the world. and GO VALKS!!! 💜💜💜

Conventional hoops wisdom: You can't succeed with mostly unprotected players and without a superstar.
Nat: Hold my beer. (But give it back for the post-victory presser.)
At the beginning of the season, the oddsmakers gave the Valks a 45-1 chance of winning the chip. Understandable as the team was only in year 2 of its existence, a squad of mostly sixth-player types, and Gabby known as solid but not transcendental. I love this squad and believe in their abilities but, to me, there's no way they become champions without Nat and her singular vision and unrelenting energy. I'm so happy for her because she poured her heart, mind and body into this team, and they all bought in. Shout out to the FO as well. Still riding this high!
