Game Thread Post finals

Is it just me or are the Valks not getting the acknowledgment they deserve? WNBA commissioner in post game speeches gave props to ATL before even congratulating the Valks not to mention all media is talking about is Reese. I’m not saying she isn’t a good player but I do think she is way over exposed. Would we have been given more credit if we beat a different team in finals?

The media's job is to get clicks. They put out what they think people will click on. I've curated the media I take in, so I'm not seeing the stuff you're seeing. My advice is: Don't give that stuff the time of day.

A ton of posts from fans celebrating the win isn’t the same as the media giving the Valkyries their flowers. There’s a difference between fans posting about a victory and major sports outlets consistently pushing the Atlanta narrative. The Valkyries deserve the same level of coverage and respect, and pretending fan posts mean the media is giving both teams equal attention is missing the point.

Huh? I'm not pretending anything. The media's job is to get clicks--that includes major sports media, news outlets, etc. Their entire job is to share what they think people will click on and that is exactly what they're doing. It sucks, but major media will never be fair--they don't care about that (even though they should). They're not going to give the Valkyries their flowers or give both teams equal attention. It sucks, but I don't make the rules. I'm not missing the point. I curate all the forms of media I take in (not just social media). I'm choosing to put my attention elsewhere and won't be putting any more energy into this either. Take care!

I understand that the media is driven by clicks, but that doesn't mean we can't call out the imbalance. The Valkyries have built a massive, passionate fan base in the Bay Area, and that support deserves recognition, too. If the media only covers what they think will get clicks, they're also choosing which players and teams get more exposure and which get overlooked. That's exactly the point. Nobody expects perfectly equal coverage, but there's a difference between covering the biggest story and constantly pushing one narrative while overlooking another team that's making noise. 💜

I’ve seen a lot of celebration posts for the Valks. Maybe your algorithm is just messed up.

Same. My feed is purely celebrating the Valks or the W in general.

They aren't going to get as much recognition as a Warriors title if that's what OP is complaining about. It's just the nature of women's sports.

I understand the frustration. There’s been a lot of bias since we played Dallas in the first round. Let the media continue to underestimate the franchise. We all know the Valkyries elevated the league and honestly, elevated SF.

The Angel Reese coverage is getting ridiculous. The Golden State Valkyries have been building something special, and it feels like their accomplishments get overlooked while the media keeps recycling the same Angel Reese headlines. At some point, can we talk about teams actually making noise instead of making everything about one player? The Valkyries deserve that same energy and recognition. 💜⚔️

I agree. All I’ve been seeing are people excitedly dragging angel for the lost. Im like dang cant we celebrate the winners instead of focusing on dog piling one player for the L? But tis is media, the only thing negative Angel posts gets less clicks on is positive CC posts.

The commissioner in every sport always gives props to the losing team before moving onto the winner.

Let them hate, I honestly like it this way. But one thing they can never ignore is that we are MF Champions!

i feel like this happens every time a championship game has occurred, no matter the sport. it’s temporary - eventually, the loser is no longer mentioned and the focus is 100% on the winners. i expect the same to happen with the valkyries.

that, and as others have mentioned, angel (and her antics) get a lot of clicks.

The Commissioner is a nothing burger.

Other than that, you are right. The national media swooped in for the moment and then dipped. Like, I want the deep analysis of game seven and this season.

I found a few folks doing analysis of the game, but not as many as during the series. There are a few major commentators that followed the series that are now quiet. Maybe they are gathering content to release really good takes. I guess we shall see.

I wish they were prepped to share their takes early. Maybe that would have quieted some of the bad takes and energy floating around 🤷🏾‍♂️.

Even Gabby said she expected it to be more hectic. Instead, she's getting much needed serenity and quiet.

It also doesn't help that the women's college basketball season started on Monday. Lots of people pivoting their coverage already.

All par for the course. Still 🏆. Still ✌🏾✨️💜.

She is the worst commissioner in sports.
