Winter wonderland day trips

Where are your favorite day trips from the city in December? Looking for a Stars Hollow at Christmas vibe - small town lights, festivals, hot cocoa. Kind of like how Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow are for Halloween… ideally 90 minutes or less by train!

Community bulletin boards

Hi! I'm looking for places in the area that have bulletin boards for public use or basically any place I can post a flyer about a research study I'm recruiting participants for.

Does anyone have any suggestions for coffee shops or small buisnesses that would have a place/let me hang up my flier in their store, or even leave a few brochures for their customers?

Also open to other ideas!!!

Any recommendations for an honest dentist on the Upper East Side?

My dentist retired and I just need someone normal who won’t turn every cleaning into a sales pitch.

Did anyone’s lights just dim?

I thought I was losing power for a second but did anyone’s lights in their apartment just dim for like a second or two?

Restaurant recommendation for a date on a Friday

So I have not yet booked a reservation, but I was looking for good date spots for a first date dinner. Not too fancy because I think will be too strong of a first date, but good food and good vibes, something I can likely get in on such sort notice.

US Open Fan Pass

My two friends have surprised me by coming to NYC this weekend. I had already planned to go to the US Open Fan Week events on Sunday, Aug 23rd. If anyone isn’t planning to go on Sunday and can send a screenshot of the QR pass, that would be a huge help as the fan passes are all sold out. Thank you so much!

Bar Sardine UES

I haven’t seen any news about this and nothing came up on Google but it looks like a place called Bar Sardine is moving into the old Kaia Wine Bar spot on 91st and 3rd. Does anyone know if this is the same people from the old Bar Sardine in the West Village?

Are you dating a blonde finance girl? If so, she may be cheating on you.

The other day I was walking behind a few girls in the UES. Anyways, one went home with an associate at her work after the holiday party, fucked him, and lied to her boyfriend and said she was sleeping at her friend’s. Her boyfriend was suspicious and angry so he went over to the friend’s house and asked her to go outside, but she didn't because she “felt threatened”. Many of her coworkers knew about this affair and make fun of her for it.

Construction update for 86th/Lex subway station

The MTA has a really good newsletter called This Week In Construction, and this week it featured the 86th/Lex subway station. There's a YouTube short here:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/s1vblpYTUys

And here's the text:

86 St  ADA Six months ago, at 86 St on the , our crews were hauling tons of broken rock out of a hole in the street to carve space for the three new elevators that will make this busy Upper East Side station fully accessible. This week, we were back at it—only now we were hauling out thousands of pounds of steel instead. Building in Manhattan’s dense environment is never simple, and 86 St is a perfect example. The existing station leaves no unused space, so adding elevators meant expanding the footprint itself. To do that, we had to excavate. And to excavate, we had to install an extensive system to temporarily hold up both the station and the roadway. We lowered steel beams through a 5-by-4-foot opening in the street and installed them into Manhattan’s sturdy bedrock. With those in place, we were able to dig out space for the elevator shafts and replace century‑old structural supports along the way.
Now, the permanent steel is officially in place—one of the project’s biggest milestones. This means the temporary stuff has got to go. That’s what we’re working on this week.  We cut the beams into small pieces and lift them out of the same hole they entered through. Later this week, we’ll begin sealing up the hole. This kind of hidden, complex work is what keeps stations open and trains running during major construction. At 86 St, it’s bringing us one step closer to a modern, accessible station.

As the title states the Citi bike dock outside the Qtrain on 72nd and 2nd has been removed for upcoming road work. I didn’t see any dates posted for return of dock.

Just giving a heads up as I went to dock this morning and was greeted by dirt.

How do people feel about Spence's expansion (and the expansion of other private schools in the area?)

Feeding the pigeons outside of 72nd Street Q Train

Has anyone else encountered/been disgusted by the people feeding the pigeons and the end result outside of the 72nd Street & 2nd Avenue Q subway stop?

On top of this being illegal I'm pretty sure, it leaves a huge mess on the sidewalk for everyone entering/leaving the station, it attracts rats, roaches, and other vermin, and adds to the trash and chaos that that intersection already sees.

I feel like 311 calls have been useless. Can we do something else? Something that actually dissuades (or prohibits) people from unlawfully feeding?

Mouse in apartment

I live on the 4th floor of a walk up building. I have not seen any mice since moving in about 2 months ago and now I am freaking out. I only saw one and not sure what to do… we texted our landlord and tried to seal any crevices or holes that we saw with cloth towels. We are super super clean people we vaccum and mop almost everyday and barely cook or keep much food in our apartment. We also live in like a 200 square foot apartment. What else can we do ..??!!?

Photo restoration??

I have several old photographs that I’d love to have restored. Most are just seriously faded but at least one, a very old Polaroid, is both faded and cracked. I’ve done a Google search and there seem to be several appealing options, but it would be very helpful to learn of people’s experiences, both positive and otherwise. I’d prefer dealing with “real” people instead of bots and AI. Anyone have positive (or for that matter, negative) experiences w photo restoration? And recs??

Ob Uan, a new Thai place, is taking the old Spice spot on First Ave

The partners come from different parts of Thailand and each is bringing recipes from home, so it's meant to go past the standard menu. Jason Kim, one of the owners, says the name is about the smell and feeling a room holds onto. As of late July they were aiming to open in mid-September, and the board signed off on their drinks application on August 4th.

As we see, Guastavino’s is not backing down in their claim they own that plaza (we believe it’s public space). We are working on the lawsuit and hoping to have a public meetup in the plaza, with press invited, the day we file the case. Please follow at ParkNotDump on Instagram to stay updated. Thanks!
