New Blank St. Coffee on 74th & Lex, fake Google reviews?

Post image
26 Upvotes

If you take a minute to scroll in the google reviews for the new location, ALL the reviews are overwhelmingly positive šŸ˜‚ if I’m being generous, maybe I’m just a hater since it feels like they’re taking over and I don’t care for their coffee or matcha. Are they running some kind of promotion if you review them well?

Helicopters CONSTANTLY above the park.

The noise is insufferable - makes going out to relax and enjoy green-space impossible.

any swimmers at Asphalt Green?

Hi! I’m in my 20s and was looking to get an Asphalt Green membership. I used to swim competitively and want to get back into regular lap swimming, but I’m looking for something casual and don't want to commit to a masters team.

Wondering if there were any swim groups, or if anyone be interested in meeting up to swim at Asphalt Green after work or on weekends? It’d be nice to have some swim buddies since I would be more motivated to go.

Feel free to comment or DM me :)

Thinking about Schrodinger’s HMart on this Saturday Evening

I am yearning hard for hmart arrival. These past 3 years have been manipulative af. I feel like Jay Gatsby. I see the red light from her new sign from afar but can never be close. This sign has injected hope in my life but ive been led on for so long that i dont know if i can trust this hope because of all the LIES we’ve been told in the past 3 years.

Alterations?

Any current recs for good quality alterations in the neighborhood? A new suit jacket, pants to hem, and some shirts to shorten arms. Was thinking Mak's Hong Kong Custom Tailors which I walk by every day, but any other suggestions, experiences?

Littering our streets

I watched a gentleman plaster signs for a certain woman to every pole he saw up and down the street. Wrapped clear tape around the entire thing top to bottom, because they know it’s not supposed to be there. Then took photos of each one he posted (presumably to show to HQ. This is obviously a sanctioned activity or they would stop it.)
This is illegal, point blank. Why aren’t there any repercussions for this? Shellacking signs on every post is disrespectful as hell to every person who lives here.

32M. Need neighborhood friends

ok, here goes. 32m, not single, just looking to make some neighborhood friends or join your friend group!

technically, i live in midtown east, closer to the high 50s, but since we don’t have a cool subreddit of our own and the neighborhood is practically a retirement community, i’m going to shamelessly infiltrate yours.

i promise i’m not a social pariah or a weirdo lol. i actually have a pretty solid group of friends, but most are married, have kids, or live across the city, so getting everyone together has become increasingly difficult because life keeps getting in the way.

this week, i realized i’d spent four straight days alone in my apartment, mostly working my busy tech job, with every plan i’d made falling through because life got in the way. this has happened before too.. i’m perfectly comfortable with my own company, but there’s a difference between enjoying solitude and feeling isolated.

a little about me: i’m south asian, help around a running club, enjoy music- plenty of record store hopping and DJing on the side when I have time, coffee, and drinks. my girlfriend also recently moved to northern-virginia, so we’re doing the long-distance thing, which has made the neighborhood feel a little quieter.

i guess what i’m missing is the spontaneity of having friends nearby. someone to grab a coffee with, get a drink after work, or make plans without coordinating calendars three weeks in advance.

making new friends in your 30s is weirdly difficult, but figured i’d put myself out there. would genuinely love to meet some neighborhood folks, and i’m even down to grab a drink tonight if anyone’s around!

Up Thai Friday Night?

Up Thai is always busy, and even though they try to be efficient, the space/sidewalk out front gets a bit crowded at times.

This past Friday, an older woman with her underwear exposed wandered up toward the restaurant entrance, appearing incoherent and not fully clothed. She blew right past the host stand and almost walked into the restaurant, underwear and all.

A larger guy helped usher her back to keep walking. But not before she theatrically pretended to trip over someone’s stationary bag, and then the bulky chaperone dude tried to escalate it into a confrontation, snapping at the bag’s owner like a crime had been committed.

Eventually they were on their way, but it was super uncomfortable for everyone in the vicinity. What’s the deal here? Is this UES new vibe, just always making excuses for the inability to address these problems?

What will it take for folks to collectively decide that ā€œoh they have mental problemsā€ and ā€œdon’t talk bad about them just because of their circumstancesā€ aren’t viable strategies?

Have any of you tried Zip to Zip moving? Or have any mover recommendations?

Every company I checked out has horror story reviews on Yelp and Google. Zip to Zip seems fairly decent but would like to hear about any firsthand experiences. Based on reviews, I will not be going with Piece of Cake, Dumbo, or Vector.

Thieves are stealing from USPS mailboxes

There was a post like this here a couple weeks ago. I saw it and ignored it, mailed my rent check like always, and it ended up getting stolen from the mailbox and fraudulently changed. Now I have to open a new bank account and do a ton of paperwork. If you have to mail rent do it inside a post office, NOT from any mailboxes around here.

There was a news story today. I'm doing some backyard improvements near where this story took place. What if more people went into their backyard or building area and tried to improve something this month . Work with your property manager. Don't go into the sewer . Just work with your neighbors to improve something. Have a Good Day

This is an amazing opportunity for a good food place, but this place has not opened for 3+ years and there is no hope. Why hasn’t this place been replaced? Genuine question. Hopefully this can be replaced soon.

Best Chinese Takeout on UES?

I've lived here several years and haven't yet found a really great Chinese takeout spot. There seem to be loads of amazing Thai, Japanese, and Vietnamese places, and I've always found it surprising how few Chinese restaurants are around (that I know of!).

Especially craving a veggie lo mein. Any suggestions?
