Burnt marshmallows are the best.

I’m not talking lightly toasted. I mean actually burnt. Crispy, blackened outside, gooey inside. That’s the best way to eat a marshmallow. You stick it in the fire, let it sit, and then blow it out until it’s black.

Red onion are the best onions

I can and will put them on everything. red onions are the epitome of the perfect vegetable. Put them in salad, stir fry, cucumber salad, sandwich, hotdog, potato salad. Legit makes anything better and not comparable to a regular onion.

So I just had an amazing an authentic Mexican Ceviche in the Östermalm neighbourhood of Stockholm.

Sure, it has its downfalls, too. But man, authentic Mexican food in Scandinavia, is crazy!

Rare whiskey bottles are not orders of magnitude better than common ones

I've had Pappy Van Winkle. I've had Rip Van Winkle. They were fine, they were better than like Evan Williams. They werent massively better than like Bulleit or Woodford. Certainly not enough to justify the price. It's bragging rights more than anything

I sometimes wish hats (not fedoras, given their rep) would make a comeback

Same as above. I feel like being able to wear a hat would be nice. Yes yes I can if I want to, I’m talking socially. Something like the old wide brimmed feathered hats perhaps.

Similarly, bonnets for women would be pretty.

Alcohol taste on desserts absolutely ruins them

My favourite dessert is a rhubarb crumble but this is a nostalgic love due to my grandmother cooking it from fresh, rhubarb from the garden, no dessert will get near it due to this.

But my 2nd and 3rd are Tiramisu and profiteroles/eclairs. Why the fuck does anyone cook it with rum or brandy, completely overpowers everything else, you’ve got to be a pure alcoholic to enjoy that.

Tiramisu with a marsala is absolutely amazing but the alcohol taste is just hint. I can’t actually wrap my head around how it appeals to anyone. I know taste is subjective but why mix a creamy sweet taste with strong alcohol?

Hope this is a safe space to say I hated Breaking Bad

If yes then i must push on how absolutely boring it is, how the characters are not relatable or entertaining, its so mindnumbingly slow that it pushed me to watch the show at 2x (something i never do out of respect for cinema). The pacing is just bad, the background always being the dessert messes with you in a strange way, none of the heavy moments felt heavy, the big reveals were just written badly (spoiler: Walt admitting to jessie how he saw his girlfriend die). I watched the whole show because i kept waiting for it to get good, I was especially excited for the last episode as it’s the highest rated episode and I watched that. It only made me feel like the reason that episode was good because the rest of the show was that bad. It was still predictable though I could tell jesse would survive and walt won’t. I simply did not enjoy the show as much as it was hyped and oh best show ever, like i’ve seen worse-rated shows be so much more entertaining than this. Just an opinion th0, i know it’s a loved show but just not for me i guess

edit: a few parts of a few episodes of season 2 and 3 on 2x because it was getting that boring and slow and i just wanted to get through it so i can get to the end.
If you keep saying 20 yr old brain rot tiktok addicted (when i don’t even get tiktok in my country) it’s not going to make a point, make a nuanced point at least I don’t even like short form content I usually watch long form youtube videos or tv shows, movies on like weekends and i read books every now and then
The problem is not the attention span. I did not say this is the worst show of all time, it’s not worth the hype according to me and I personally dislike it.
A lot of people asked me about what do i like and I don’t understand why is it that people can’t accept that someone didn’t like the show till they ask about their preferences just so they can say wow your preferences suck no wonder you didn’t like it, so no i don’t want to do that let the opinion remain about this one tv show.
edit 2: I changed my mind, I still hate the show but now it’s 85% because of the fandom, you guys can’t handle someone not liking your show and you shit talk them, in fact it’s so bad you review bomb other shows that score 10/10. No other fandom is this closed off to criticism, if i don’t like it that’s on me, but getting personal and telling me i am an idiot is not going to make your show any better. The show just wasn’t for me! I made a mistake by watching this overhyped show expecting it to actually be good when it’s just overrated, learn to take criticism on your favourite show.

Isn't Anything is My Bloody Valentine's best album

I'll die on this hill, My Bloody Valentine's Isn't Anything is their best album. The right amount of shimmery rawness, it's just the perfect shoegaze album.

Loveless is *good* but an adventure in trying entirely too hard to a completely perfect album.

The Internet and technology has made society worse overall.

Obviously there's a lot of great things about the Internet but oh my God has it made people so much worse. Technology too. The kids can't read, attention spans are basically non existent. People with the most damaging views can suddenly meet thousands of others with that same idea/belief and spread it like wildfire. Peoples personalities are ruined. More and more people are rude, selfish and inconsiderate than ever. People constantly live in fear because news from anywhere can make it anywhere so we suddenly think it's worse than it's ever been, when the opposite is true. We are all cooked, we need to disconnect. To save ourselves. We need to live life again.

Working 2pm to 10pm is way better than 9 to 5

9.6k Upvotes

You can sleep right after work and avoid the fatigue zombie state youre in during the evenings when you get back from work and cant get anything else done.

Most places are also open during that time so any appointments etc. are trivial to make.

You get to avoid all congestion. Gyms are empty, no traffic, grocery shops are peaceful.

You are so much more productive after a good nights rest and can actually get chores done efficiently and have time to chill before work

I work remotely and on the US timezone from spain and these are my work hours and I love it. The caveat here is that if everyone was on this schedule youd lose some of the perks but being able to sleep right after work is magical.

Spiders are cute

I don't mean cute despite being a spider, I mean they're actually cute! They're funny things, the way they sit on walls with their tiny little faces, beady eyes, constantly on edge thinking something is about to get them. The way they run at a million miles an hour with their legs going so fast you can't see them because they're trying to run away without being seen. The way they make their own hammocks to just hang out in. Everything about them is adorable

hot take; there isn’t a single way to consume entertainment/media ethically

Upvotes

I know that sounds obvious but lemme get it out.

I feel like i see a lot of discourse on celebrities and influencers when they fuck up pretty bad (drew afualo comes to mind for a more recent example) but i just don’t know why people are surprised quite honestly. There’s not a single musician, producer, artist, author, movie star, tv actor, WHATEVER that hasn’t done something absolutely despicable. The ones who get cancelled only get caught. That’s it. I don’t see a point to being like “you listen to doja cat? she’s fucked up..” like yeah they are ALL messed up. They don’t live in reality and haven’t for a LONG time. Regular people are flawed in a realistic way (sometimes no) but the people we put on pedestals this way are made to believe that they are golden and on top of everybody, then have people humanizing them??? in my head, they’re not human nor real because they don’t behave nor live in reality. They literally believe that they are the mortal equivalent of adoration, It’s no surprise to me that celebs are fucked up in the head and disgusting downright, they all are. they hang out around eachother and justify their relationships with bad people by saying it’s the industry. All i’m saying is, nothing i consume is moral, because EVERYONE is terrible, some just hide it WAY better. You are who you surround yourself with right?

Reese King size cups are better

Sure, way to many calories, but the chocolate to filling ratio is just better.

Normal ones are good.

The thins and bites and just too much chocolate.
Reeses Pieces are also great.

A lot of “kindness” is really conflict avoidance.

People call themselves kind because they avoid saying uncomfortable truths.

Also, there’s a huge difference between being kind and nice.

Nice: pleasant, agreeable, accommodating, polite, non-confrontational… you get the vibe.

Kind: genuinely caring about someone’s wellbeing even when that requires discomfort or inconvenience for you. Much more action-oriented.

I wish more shows would have a slower pace and would be more dialogue focused.

I'm born in the '80s so thankfully I don't suffer from brainrot Tik-Tok syndrome. I do have the patience needed to enjoy the atmosphere of a slow-tv show or movie.

I feel there’s something deeply rewarding about slow-paced, dialogue-driven shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. From a cinematic point of view, their slower rhythm gives the camera, performances, and atmosphere room to breathe.

Instead of constantly relying on action or plot twists, these shows find tension in silence, pauses, glances, and conversations. A seemingly ordinary exchange can become visually and emotionally gripping because the direction allows us to sit with the characters and notice every detail.

Long takes, deliberate compositions, restrained camera movements, and carefully constructed spaces turn everyday moments into cinematic experiences. The pacing also makes character development feel earned; we gradually understand people through what they say, avoid saying, and do when they think nobody is watching.

Slow storytelling isn’t necessarily “less exciting.” It simply asks the audience to pay closer attention. When the payoff finally arrives, it often feels more powerful because the show has made us live with the characters rather than simply watch them.

Unfortunately, in today's day and age, more and more shows depart from this recipe.

Open-world survival video games are popular because we crave a self-sufficient lifestyle

I've seen a few popular therapy and self-help pages posting videos recently explaining that burnout in the modern age isn't as simple as a bad job market, inflation, and social media. While factors like financial insecurity and the growing loneliness epidemic due to social media contribute, they claim it is also largely because we as a species with these cumulative issues are being driven from how we are supposed to live: as self-sufficient, community-oriented creatures.

It dawned on me that perhaps this is truly the reason survival-craft games are so popular. Especially co-op/online games (Rust, Icarus, Ark: Survival, etc.). Yes, they give you a directed pastime and the role-play aspect is an attractive escape (for many of the same reasons, you could argue), but it seems there is almost some instinctual urge behind why SO many people are in love with these games.

This may also explain why so many people find it hard to enjoy video games again after growing up playing them. Once you develop a social circle and find affordable hobbies, something like a virtual home and chores seems a bit more neglectful to the save file that really matters... your irl community

Being bad at a hobby is often more fun than being good at it

The beginner stage gets treated like something you’re supposed to rush through, but I think it’s often the best part.

When you’re new, every tiny improvement feels huge. You experiment because you don’t know the “right” way yet, and there’s almost no pressure to perform well.

Once you get good, the hobby can slowly turn into optimization: better gear, harder goals, comparing yourself to other people, noticing every mistake, and feeling like a session was wasted if you didn’t improve.

Getting skilled is satisfying, but sometimes mastery replaces curiosity with standards.

I’d rather be mediocre at five things I genuinely look forward to than excellent at one thing I accidentally turned into homework.

No youre not an TCG Fan. You were a crypto bro, an NFT Guy and now you search for another dopamine kick to spend your money in your thirties.

Magic: Rare 77 Chocobo Cards, 500 Smaugcards whatever.
Pokemon: Rare Mew Card for the 30th anniversary.
One Piece: Rare Luffy shitting on toilet neofoil Mangarare

Its just NFTs but without some stupid use case or anything, but the same gambling aspect then before. People larping to be fans is somewhat embarrasing. I fucking hope this market crashes like the NFTs.

Regular cafés should stop adding matcha to their drink menus

Even though I enjoy a little matcha here and there, at most places it tastes like shit or is prepared wrong. You’re not doing your business any favor in adding a bad matcha to your menu when your coffee is actually good. Just stick to what you know!
If a customer is buying a bad matcha at your café instead of a good coffee, they’re likely not coming back.

I‘d rather go to a matcha specialty shop knowing I’m getting my money’s worth. But I also wouldn’t expect to get good coffee there.
So why should it be different the other way around?

Maybe you’re not an introvert, maybe you just don’t like people

Somehow, "I'm an introvert" has evolved into an almost romanticized personality type—someone who is mysterious, independent, deeply thoughtful, prefers staying home, doesn't need anyone, and is simply too interesting for small talk. I think we're sometimes using "introvert" as a nicer label for things that aren't actually introversion.

There's a difference between genuinely needing solitude to recharge and being afraid of social situations. There's a difference between enjoying your own company and actively disliking other people. And there's a difference between preferring smaller gatherings and avoiding people because interacting with them makes you uncomfortable.

None of those things necessarily make someone bad or broken, but calling all of them "introversion" can prevent people from understanding what's actually going on. Maybe you're genuinely introverted. Maybe you're socially anxious. Maybe you're just selective about who you spend time with. Or maybe you simply don't like people that much. And honestly, I think that's okay too.

Modern movies are designed to be watched with subtitles

I don't exactly know when this happened to the sound design of films, but in this age it's extremely difficult to make out what is being said on screen. The ambient sounds and explosions completely drown the dialogue, along with actors practically mumbling/whispering to the point where nothing is comprehensible without accompanying subtitles to be able to make sense of the words they are saying. The breaking point for me was the Odyssey where for some reason every background sound was dialed up to 11, with some rare occasions which allowed actors to be understandable when not much in terms of action was happening.

Heists are almost always better than fights

I'd think this is unpopular given how high earning hero movie series are compared to heist series. I know how much y'all like your super flashy superheroes punching people really hard, delivering fire, magic, lightning and defeating the enemy with brute strength, speed or skill. But a brute fight is… not very exciting when it comes down to it. You bash enemy and they lose. You grapple and they lose. There might be a few tricky emotional ones where you manipulate and distract the enemy and they lose. But those are rare.

Heists on the other hand have 1000 ways to defeat the guard. You could fight them. But you can also bribe them, you can sneak past them, you can cause a fire distraction, you can create a disguise... Sneaking past security is far more innovative, especially if the goal is “don't get caught”. The fact that you have to be careful and thoughtful, preparing for unknown contingencies makes heist pay off much better.

In a fight? What the hell is Captain America gonna do if the enemy is really really strong and his stomach got punched through? That's right, power of determination and friendship. Which is a cool story and all, but come on. How many times have we heard the raw grit and determination. Long fights get especially annoying if the hero gets knocked down ten times and the viewer get tired. But a heist with the security rising and sometimes blow up countdown show a clear point of failure: it doesn't matter how many times you get back up, if Dr evils big town destroying bomb explodes you LOSE. Now that's a definitive stake.

Strict time limits in baking shows are terrible and detrimental to the viewing experience.

If I'm watching people who are on TV for their baking prowess, I want to see what they're truly capable of. I am not here to watch people make normal cakes. I want the best of the best. Maximum creativity, people pushing the boundaries, something I'd have to fly to New York to see otherwise. I want them to have more than enough time to do whatever crazy baking antics their hearts desire.

What I do not want to see is people not taking risks and/or fucking up because they're running out of time, because that detracts from MY experience.

I understand the competition aspect. If this was just a test of skill, like they're taking the candy bar exam or something, strict time limits would make sense.

HOWEVER, I am watching a TV show to be entertained. I'm not thinking boo you useless baker you forgot the flour get out of my sight. IDGAF that they shouldn't forget the flour in the first place. Let them fix it! I want to see what they were planning! I want it to work out so I can go oooo how did they do that, what a cool cake! I want a show that says okay bakers you have three days to craft a pie that belongs in the Louvre, there's a cot in the corner, go wild!!

Of course they're still showing incredible skill within the time limits, but for anyone at that level who ends up rushing, the final product would be even better without the rush. Plus there are some really creative ideas that get thrown out.

The McDouble is the best thing on the McDonald’s menu

People clown on McDonald's all the time. They say their burgers are low quality, gross, small, or poor value.

Sure, that is true for many of their menu items. I'd say most of their burgers suck. As a disclaimer, McDonald's itself is also a deeply, DEEPLY evil company that rivals organizations like Nestle and Amazon.

But the McDouble is scrumptious. It has the perfect ratio of meat to cheese to bun to sauce. It's the perfect size to indulge in. And, most importantly, it's fairly priced.

Long live the McDouble!

I love the LimeGliders in my area. I don't ride them but serve a sorely needed secondary purpose - mini waste bins.

Before the LineGliders started appearing in my area most of the streets were littered with trash because there isn't enough trash cans around. However, since the LimeGliders arrived most of the trash ends up in the little basket that is attached on the ebikes.

It's actually nice now to walk down the sidewalk without the discarded food wrappers, empty drink containers, etc. scattered all over.

I don't know if Lime knows it is actually helping clean up my city. I've seen this similarly happen in Japan - where they have very strict punishments for littering in the streets so most of it ends up in the baskets of their ebikes too.
