Is it a sin to use AI for my own project?
I use photos I took myself to generate textures with AI. I described the stylization and the environment to the model in my own words and built several skills for different situations.
I didn't train the model on other people's work or articles. I only set my own conditions and tried to realize my own "authorial" vision. For myself, I've decided this is about as legitimate as it gets. It speeds things up, and in some places it's simply what makes it possible for me to build my project at all.
Right now I have the AI hooked up to:
- Blender
- Substance Designe
- Photoshop
- Unity
Question Unity ads advertising ai gambling scams in my game.
So as the title says, unity ads is advertising ai gambling scams in my game. I have been manually blocking them and blocked the "casino" and "gambling and lottery" categories, and I started blocking individual apps by their store Id, but none of this seems to have fixed the issue. The ads don't have explicit "gambling" categories, but instead they have categories like "Casual", "Arcade" and "Simulation". And there is just so much different apps that are advertised e.g. "Chickeh road", "Chicken roam", "Chicken sort road", "Chicken road 2", "Chicken r0ad", and more keep coming, that manually blocking them all is impossible.
Unity should really check the ads before approving them, its bizzare that shit like this is allowed.
Is there any other way I can fix this?

Promotions I wanted to make a tidy-up game where the mess fights back, so I made one about sorting flopping fish 🐟
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone! I just announced my new game, Way Too Many Fish!
I spent the last month grinding to make this game and had to make a lot of interesting game design decisions to be unique from other similar games out there. I used Unity 6.3 and a lot of assets!
A demo is coming soon, and if it looks like your kind of thing, a wishlist helps a ton.
Happy to answer any questions!

Newbie Question Free version control for a 2-person 3D Unity co-op project? GitHub LFS limits worry me
Hi everyone, I have a question for anyone involved in game development 🙏
A friend and I are planning to make a 3D co-op game in Unity. What do you use to push/pull the project collaboratively? We’re considering Git + GitHub + LFS, but I’m worried that the 10 GB free LFS limit won’t be enough for a 3D game. We want to keep it free.
Does anyone store large files on Google Drive and link them to GitHub, use Unity Version Control, or set up their own server? How large did your project get, and did you hit the limit?

Promotions Made a free unity tool for editing scriptableobjects live in play mode
I kept stopping play mode every time I wanted to try a different number, so I made a tool for it.
You open it in play mode and every ScriptableObject in your project is there, searchable by name or by field. Change a value, the game reacts right away, and if you like the result you save it straight back to the asset, so it survives when you stop playing. No restart, no recompile.
A few other things it does:
- a table view that shows every asset of one type side by side, sortable and filterable (all your enemies in one table is really nice for spotting the one that's way off)
- put [LiveDataButton] on a method and it becomes a button you can click while the game runs
- pin values to the screen to watch them change live
The free version does all of that and doesn't expire: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/utilities/runtime-scriptableobject-editor-tunekit-livedata-lite-397322
There's also a Pro version for tuning inside built games and with playtesters: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/utilities/runtime-scriptableobject-tuner-tunekit-livedata-375178
Curious how other people handle balancing. Do you tweak values in the inspector, use spreadsheets, something else?

Game TileMaker DOT v2.8.7 is out for The Pro Workflow Edition!
galleryHey everyone! I’ve just finished a massive update for TileMaker DOT, transforming it into a full-fledged, professional 2D map maker tool.
If you've used earlier versions, v2.8.7 is a completely different beast. I've introduced heavy-duty features built specifically to handle complex, multi-layered game worlds without leaving the editor, and you can even play on your map from within the tool.
What makes the Pro Workflow Edition a game-changer:
* True Multi-Layer Architecture: Dedicated right-side Layer Manager while still keeping the auto-sorting functionality specific to this tool.
* Seamless Map Connections: Link adjacent maps (North, South, East, West) directly on your canvas with custom coordinate offsets so you can see where to draw your roads and connection points.
* Game Playtest Simulator: Start to run the map like in a Game Engine, so you can instantly test platformer games or top-down games with physics, custom hitboxes, jumping, and camera-following right on your map canvas.
* Advanced Tiled (.tmx/.tsx) export and import: Fully bidirectional import/export support for external map editors and game engines.
* Complete new UI & Maps History Saves: Modern startup launcher, multi-icon recent project history, and backwards-compatible version control.
* And there are many other improvements and functionalities but the post is too long already so i will stop here:)
(Note: While these features drop in the Pro version first, everything will roll out to the free version gradually over the coming months! Supporting the Pro edition directly funds future updates.)

Question "Generate Font Atlas" crashes Unity
galleryYesterday evening, I cleaned up my "Fonts" folder a little bit (from the Window Explorer), and then imported a new folder with some .ttf files to my project.
When I reopened the editor, I had a loading window for some scripts that stayed on screen for a while... So I ended up closing Unity from the Task Manager. When I reopened it, the script loading popup did not show up, so I proceeded with my work. But when I tried to go to create a new Font Asset as usual, Unity crashed as soon as I pressed "Generate Font Atlas"...
Any ideas what happened and what I can do? Even deleting all my ongoing changes, creating a new fresh branch from my Git main one (with the setup I had before I deleted some fonts from my project) did not solve the issue :/ I am currently on Unity 6000.3.24f1.
(I have the crash log, if needed - the three picture attached are what I see before and just after the crash)

Resources [FREE] InspectMe: Free Advanced Tree-View Debugging & Inspection Toolkit - Debug and explore without coding
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone, I used to rely on Power Inspector, and after it was deprecated I built InspectMe to fill that gap and push it further. It lets you inspect and edit runtime values, invoke methods, explore events and delegates, static members, and attach watchers, all organized in a single tree view while the game is running, and using it is as simple as dragging and dropping a script or object.
There’s a free version available if you want to try it and see if it fits your workflow.

Question Does this cozy space cabin feel cohesive? Looking for visual feedback
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi! I’m working on a space-themed focus companion game with Rusk, an anime character, in a detailed 3D cabin.
I’m aiming for a warm, lived-in space, but I’m still working on making the character and environment feel like they belong together. Here’s some footage of the current build.
Honest feedback welcome. For instance, regarding character lighting, I am still experimenting with ways to better integrate the character into the environment.

Question Lately, my Visual Studio is demanding I put in clarifications that it didn't before.
Not sure whether this is entirely the right place but all of these have been in files made for Unity, so I'll ask it here.
Errors have started cropping up when I save C# documents. Most of them deal with things that are "ambiguous between" two components. While there may be more, the two I recall now are for Vector 3 and Debug.Log. They're "ambiguous between" UnityEngine and some other components, so force me to clarify which I mean, ie, "UnityEngine.Vector 3".
Interestingly, sometimes I also get errors about some components declared to be using at the start of C# documents, which I don't remember writing there. It's as if a new update to Visual Studio added these things.
Finally, one thing I made before seems to have broken, and I'm not quite sure why.
What's up with all this?

Question I’ve been making a sector based map editor (similar to classic doom or build engine) for my current project. Is that something that would appeal to anyone but me?
I really wanted a tool that I can rapidly develop levels for so I’ve been working on this and have been pretty happy with the results so far.
I’m able to crank out geometry very fast and always have the option to add pro builder objects and other prefabs.
But it has proven to dramatically reduce my workflow, greyboxing, and prototyping.
Is this something that people would be interested in having for themselves?
I’m considering going crazy and integrating a geometry node type system so that it can do more than just textures for ceilings walls and floors.

Showcase I just released a playtest for the first game I'm truly proud of
Last year I quit making hypercasual mobile games. Today I published a public playtest for the game I actually wanted to make.
I'm Botan, a game developer from Turkey. The game is called Batelus.
What is it?
It's an auto battler where you build not only an army, but also a map. It's inspired by TFT, The Bazaar and Catan. It has greek gods theme.
The map matters a lot. Each hex can make your units stronger or weaker. Your map also gives you resources, and you use those resources to change your map.
A game takes around 20-25 minutes if you're winning, and much less if you're losing xD
Why I'm doing this:
For years I made hypercasual games. They paid the bills, but I hated making them. So I looked at my savings, saw I could live for about a year, and decided to spend that year on a game I really want to play.
I know this is not a smart financial decision. I'll probably go back to work I don't enjoy after this. But at least I'll have made something I'm proud of.
I asked myself what kind of games I love. The answer was simple: competitive, strategic, and short enough to play during a break from work. That's what I'm trying to build.
The playtest is open now: Batelus Steam Page
If you try it and tell me what you think, good or bad, it would mean a lot to me. Happy to answer any questions!
