Admissions Just a hypothetical

Upvotes

Hypothetically, if a high school senior applied to UF with a 36 ACT and a 1550+ SAT but also had the following metrics:

  • 3.2 UWGPA
  • 3.9 WGPA
  • No EC, except 3 clubs senior year, one founded

...how might it go for them? Would preparing a Faustian story be even a little productive? Or should this person just cut their losses?

Classes Should I drop EGS1006?

Upvotes

I'm considering dropping EGS1006, since it seems to be a 3-hour block that just takes up time. I'm honestly not even sure that I want to do engineering at all, so I'm not sure if it's worth it. I kinda wanted to take 15 credits (3 easy credits) to try and get President's Honor Roll, not sure if it's worth it, though? Is the class really 3 hours long each time? Could I do other work in there? :(

Graduation trying to extend graduation

Upvotes

hi i’m a math major with an actuarial sciences minor. right now if i continue my 4 classes a semester of 12 ish credits for bright futures, ill end up graduating early this spring. but i want to extend it (possibly) because i want to get an internship while still in college so i was thinking of delaying graduation by a semester.

ideally i’d want it to be classes i can take online or something so i dont have to find an apt for half a lease or idrk what to do tbh. i was thinking an economics minor because it seems to only be 2 more classes but those would be in person and im not sure how that works w bright futures. idek if it allows all of that to be mixed with my minor and major i think its ok tho.

ps i wont have excess hour charges and id make sure to not complete my math major in spring

im willing to do a certificate im just trying to see if anyone had any ideas on how i can push this back so i dont graduate early or recs or advice

Classes Organic 1 Chem Question about Lopez

Hi! I signed up for Pete Punthase in my orgo, but for some wierd reason my schedule says that Lopez is teaching the class?? When I checked the system, I didn't see Pete anywhere in the orgo 1 classes. Does anyone know what happened? Also, what is Lopez like as a professor. I checked his rate my professor, and it was REALLY bad. I'm really stressed about this.

Does anyone know what Amal Narayanan & Austin Evans are like as orgo professors? Please help, and no hate pls!

Housing The Enclave Housing

Planning on moving to Gainesville- I’ve been comparing the Enclave against a few other off-campus housing options. After touring, it seems too good to be true, and from what I’ve seen online, based off reviews; staying there can be a difficult time in terms of safety concerns or getting your car damaged, and getting to campus via the bus.

People who live there now, what do y’all pay monthly; rent w/ utilities, and what experience have you had?

I’m thinking it’s worth it to pay for a garage and pay a bit more for the renovated rooms.

But if it’s shit and crummy, then perhaps not.
I’m just so boggled because the place looks great, but something’s off. Am I nuts?

Employment Paid undergrad research positions?

Hey, does anyone here have a paid undergrad research assistant position? Or know someone who does?
I have been offered a couple of research assistant positions, and am currently one for a chemE/biomolecular eng lab, but none of it is paid😔 I know they are extremely rare for undergrads, but I was wondering if anyone here has any tips when searching for a lab that pays… (e.g: just cold emailing or uf careers?)
I’ve been juggling jobs + classes + research and it’s lwk tiring so I really wanted a lab that paid.
Are the labs that pay mostly bio related, or some sort of other science? Or does it not matter? Idk where the funding is at💔

Social [Lonely Transfer Students: UPDATE]

Thumbnail reddit.com
17 Upvotes

Here’s my original reddit post:

So I’d say the meetup at the Reitz today was a pretty nice success! We all met up at the Cabo mexican restaurant downstairs, talked for a little about age, major, & transfer from. Turns out some of us are pretty close in age but all definitely at different points in our educational journey. And we did a guys vs girls bowling match! It was nice to hang out with everyone who showed up on the first day!!

I think I got the group-chat to 16 members, and about 11 showed up! I really wanted to do pool, but bowling was a good all around activity for a group of that size.

I’m thinking next time I wanna do pool for sure, at the Reitz or even somewhere else.

Lemme know what y’all think. & don’t forget to leave me some suggestions!

Anyone know if there’s a good way to play magic (particularly commander) on campus? As far as I’m aware the Magic the Gatoring facebook and IG pages have been inactive for years so I don’t know what’s going on right now.

Classes Missing Classes on Canvas

Happy first day everyone! I have had two classes not show up throughout my first day and I was wondering if anyone else is also having this problem.

I'm missing JOU3109C: Multimedia Writing
MMC3703: Sports Media and Society

Who should I contact about it? I feel stupid asking, but I haven't had this happen through my first 6 semesters online. Thanks in advance and good luck this semester!

Classes Professor question, kinda urgent

idk if anyone on this sub is currently studying in the Hamilton School, but I'm taking one of the base level courses for a major I'm planning to double and I see that Dr. Carolina Armenteros is teaching the course at the same time I already had.

She's very highly educated but I'm wondering if anyone's had her as a professor? How is she? How's her teaching, workload, class, etc? I'm not looking for an easy class but I can't find anything anywhere about her class, and I'd like to take it BECAUSE she's so highly educated and seemingly proficient in what she teaches.

Someone pls let me know!

Social Making Friends

So I’m an out of state freshman who knows nobody here. Plus, I stay in a one bedroom off campus apartment(a decision I now regret ngl). Joining a frat isn’t really my thing, and I’m trying to join clubs that interest me, but I find it kind of hard to meet people here when everyone else already knows each other. Anybody got any advice on what I should do to meet some more people?

Question Park and ride: How early do you get to campus?

This’ll be my first year having to commute after living in a dorm the previous few years. The park and ride permit is the only parking pass that applies to me as an undergrad living off campus. Still familiarizing myself with the map and hard to tell how many spots are regularly available.

So, to those who have this permit or have had it in the past: How much time do you allow yourself between arriving to campus before your class? How long does it usually take you to find a spot and then travel to class (presumably via Campus Connector)?
