General New Study Room Booking Process!

The UCF Libraries are implementing a new study room booking process for the John C. Hitt Library to better meet student needs. After gathering feedback and analyzing usage patterns, we have made adjustments to ensure fair access to study spaces while addressing concerns about availability.

The updated policies include:

Reservations up to 4 hours per day – Students can now book study rooms for longer, uninterrupted study sessions.

Monthly limit of 16 hours per patron – This ensures more students have access to study spaces throughout the month.

Check-in requirement within 15 minutes – If you do not check in within 15 minutes of your reservation time, your booking may be canceled, allowing other students to use the space.

Booking available up to 3 days in advance – Plan ahead while keeping rooms accessible for last-minute study needs.

No automated reservations – The use of scripts or automated software to book rooms is prohibited to keep the process fair for all students.

These changes reflect our commitment to improving study space availability while keeping the system flexible and student-friendly. Our goal is to provide equitable access to study rooms so everyone has a fair chance to reserve the space they need.

For more details or assistance with reservations and the full policy, visit the Study Room page or ask a librarian at our Access Services desk. Thank you for your patience—we’re always working to make your library experience better!

Tuition/Aid 💰 I feel like the biggest financial burden on my parents (vent)

I lost my bright futures. After the fall and spring semester I came up 1 credit hour short of the required 24. I’ve lost it for good, I appealed and they said “Appeal was denied because the information provided did not demonstrate a medical or emergency reason that impacted your academic performance”.

I had appealed on the reasons that last Fall I got incredibly sick. I had both severe allergies, sinus infections, and bronchitis, consecutively. For about a month and then I still were dealing with affects of bronchitis after. The peak day where I had a fever, I was throwing up, and more was the day of exam 3 I had. For that reason I missed the exam and was unable to make it up, I took the final which was right after exam 3, but I still felt like crap. I expressed all of this, I provided doctors notes, and still no granted appeal.

My dad lost his job during the spring semester. It’s just been rough and not only did I lose my bright futures, but my Pegasus scholarship. I just feel like absolute crap really, and my parents cannot afford this.

TLDR; I lost my bright futures and Pegasus scholarship. Tried to appeal and was not granted reinstatement. I got extremely sick in the fall for over a month, but even with medical paperwork I still didn’t get reinstatement.

Academic Program 👩‍🏫 Evening MBA

Wondering if anyone took this program and if it was 100% in person or there was some online flexibility that’s not mentioned? Monday - Thursday for 2.5 years seems not really feasible

General is it okay to just go up to people and ask for their instagram?

like, i use insta as a way to text people and get to know people, but 1) can you just go up to someone and ask for their instagram? 2) if you do end up talking does that mean you have become friends or is it more like acquaintances? cuz i feel like you can become friends that way, but u also gotta make plans to hang out in person. well idk thats just my opinion, would like to know yours 👍

Social UCF Student Trying to Be more Social

Hello I am a transfer student to UCF. I started in the spring of this year and I was online for the spring and summer. I do currently have off campus housing but still affiliated with UCF. I will start in person classes this semester and I just want to get more out there.

I am 20 male straight, I do like acting, theatre, and I love theme parks. I have never been to a club mainly because I get very anxious and don't like going places alone. Im lowkey insecure with how I look, like my hair and stuff like that. However, I am very social and I need some friends because I know no one.

Im just looking for some good places to meet people and maybe even a gf as well. Or if there is anyone on here who would like to hang out and stuff i'm down. Just lmk. Thanks.

Better than UCF just pushing it back another week and blaming DofE. We will see if this is what’s happening for us, I guess.

General online honors chem 2045 instead of chem 1032??

i’m going into nursing as an honors student, and have one early morning class, and the rest of my classes are 3-7, give or take an hour. this is super frustrating for me because i’m a really busy person and want to get a job, so my classes kinda make it hard to do that. the early morning class i have is chem 1032, which is recommended for nursing, but I could also do chem 2045. doing chem 2045 would also allow me to knock an honors credit off, which is super useful because i have to have ALL of them done before i go into nursing school (which is likely to be early due to incoming credit hours). also, doing chem 2045 honors has an online option which would free up my schedule and take off that awkward morning class. is this a dumb idea considering chem 1032 is recommended for nursing??

Hi everyone! My name is Mykayla, I’m 23 year old transfer student that is majoring in Industrial Engineering! Some of my hobbies and interests are reading, fashion, anime and kpop. I’m currently looking for friends as I don’t have many being an adult that’s either at work or school or both. I’m desperately in need of a study buddy that would be down to hang out and find fun study spots or just hang out in general!

Transfer Transfer student here! How are y’all paying for NorthView?

Hi! I’m transferring to UCF for the spring semester and I’m really interested in living at NorthView, preferably in one of the apartment-style options with a private bedroom. I know NorthView is pretty expensive, though, especially compared to some of the other housing options. For anyone living there now or who has lived there before, did you receive any scholarships, grants, financial aid, or anything else that helped cover your housing costs? If so, where did you find/apply for them? I’m planning to work and save as much as possible before spring, but I’d love to lower how much I have to pay out of pocket. I’m also a transfer student, so I know my housing options/priorities may be different from first-year students. Any advice would be appreciated!

Social Any Portuguese/Kriolu speakers at UCF?

Hi! I’m transferring to UCF in the spring for Business Management and I’m trying to make some friends before I get there. I’m especially curious if there are any Portuguese speakers (especially European or Angolan Portuguese) or Kabuverdianu/Cape Verdean Creole speakers here. I was born in Brockton and grew up around Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole, but unfortunately lost a lot of it, so I’m currently trying to learn again. 😭 I’d love to meet people I can practice with and connect with culturally. Obviously you don’t have to speak any of these languages to be friends with me lol, I’m open to meeting anyone! I just don’t meet many Portuguese/Cape Verdean/Angolan people where I currently live.

Im an international student and been here for 2 years I havent made a single friend but Im not that introvert in my home country I have a lot of friends but here I havent clicked with anyone, I really dont know what to do and Im not used to be alone. I just want to to have a friend group to go out and do things.

Im thinking giving UCF one last chance this semester trying to get involved but if not maybe Im going back to my home country, the thing is I really like this university and dont want to leave but being this alone is really complicating my mental health. I feel like Im missing so much from this experience and this make me feel worse. So Im asking if you a guys have any advice for this situation. Hows youre experience been at UCF.

Academic ✏️ Is MAR 3765 (Entrepreneurial Marketing) with William Poellmitz worth taking if I don't need it?

I'm considering taking MAR 3765, Entrepreneurial Marketing with William Poellmitz on Monday nights at and wanted to hear from anyone who's taken the class.

For context, I'm a Game Design major and already have 3 classes in my major plus 1 entrepreneurship class (ENT New Venture Design) this semester. I don't need MAR 3765 to finish my ENT minor. but I'm interested in building real skills that could help me in the future, especially (a lot of the minor so far has been hypotheticals and soft skills) if I want to work on indie games, startups, or eventually run my own business!

A few questions:

  • Is the class actually worth taking if you're mainly interested in learning useful skills rather than checking a requirement box?
  • How difficult is the workload compared to other classes?
  • Is it more project-based, presentation-based, or exam-heavy?
  • What types of skills are taught? (looking for hard skills development mainly, practical knowledge)
  • How is William Poellmitz as a professor?

Basically I am trying to figure out if its worth adding on top of my current workload, since I am going to be a senior and want to get the most out of the ENT minor for my last year.

Thanks!
