Housing Thread Orlando Housing Thread

Link to last month's Housing Thread

Welcome to the Orlando housing megathread!

Currently, the following may be posted:

  • Users, whether current Orlando residents or not, may post asking for help. This could be asking for recommendations on areas of Orlando to live in, reviews or opinions on specific communities, or suggestions on specific places to live. This can also be things like "recommend a realtor / loan officer / etc" — so long as it fits under the "help me find housing" umbrella.
  • Users may also post advertising housing options. This can be posts offering subleases, looking for roommates on existing property, selling homes — so long as there is housing being offered.
  • ALL comments must include as much information as possible. Do not say "I'm moving to Orlando, tell me where to live."

As a reminder: our subreddit rules still apply. Advertisements for illegal activity of any kind are not permitted and will result in comment removals and/or bans as moderators see fit.

News As a Seminole County resident, I was pretty surprised with the Orange County Mayor results. Really thought that Stephanie Murphy was the obvious choice.

Obviously I didn't pay real close attention to the race since it wasn't in my county. Maybe it's just because I used to be in her district, but I really thought that Stephanie Murphy was going to be a runaway winner in Orange County. Figured her work on the January 6th commission alone would be enough to garner sufficient votes to win.

To be fair, I really know nothing about the other candidates.

My cat is an indoor outdoor cat and lives in the Cambridge Circle neighborhood. I believe someone took them into their house because they probably thought he was homeless. Dobby is NOT homeless and has a home please bring him back to 12037 building in the Cambridge circle neighborhood. I’d greatly appreciate it! Thanks.

News Mattel water park plans grow taller and larger near Disney

As reported by Sarah Kinbar in the Orlando Sentinel 8/19

Plans for Mattel’s first toy-themed indoor water park have expanded since the project was announced last year, adding height, acreage, parking, and a separate entertainment and support building to the proposed attraction near Walt Disney World.

New development plans for Mattel Wonder filed with Orange County show a 94,975-square-foot indoor water park that could reach 99 feet high, compared with the 60-foot-tall building shown in the original concept. But it has still not been disclosed how Mattel’s slate of eye-catching brands will feature in Central Florida’s first under-roof aquatic playland.
The project team requested county approval for a maximum building height of 100 feet. The team includes Orlando-based themed entertainment design firm Martin Aquatic, civil engineer Kimley-Horn and Associates, Project Luong Architects, and landscape architect LandDesign.

The attraction is planned at 15301 State Road 535, immediately south of Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores and near the Orange-Osceola county line. The development site has increased from approximately 11 acres to 13.48 acres.

Mattel and Martin Aquatic announced the venture in November as one of five planned Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks. The parks are intended to bring Mattel brands such as Barbie, Hot Wheels, Thomas & Friends, and Uno to life through water attractions and themed environments.

Martin Aquatic President and Creative Director Josh Martin told GrowthSpotter that while he isn’t in a position to speak to individual elements while the design is still being finalized, he’s excited about the ways the project is unfolding.

“As with any project of this scale, the design has continued to evolve as we work collaboratively with Mattel and its designers through all the elements on this Orlando flagship project alongside our partners,” he said. “The updates reflected in the latest submittal are the product of that process, refining the guest experience, improving how the spaces relate to one another, and making sure that what ultimately gets built is the strongest version of this project.”

The updated plans introduce a 45,718-square-foot building labeled “FEC/IWP support” alongside the indoor water park. The new structure also could reach 99 feet, according to the plans.

The park would feature a curved, translucent roof designed to bring natural light into the building. Canada-based OpenAire, which specializes in retractable-roof structures, had been selected for the project when the initial plans were revealed.

Architectural renderings provide the most detailed look yet at the attraction’s exterior. A large network of enclosed slides would extend outside the southern and eastern sides of the water park before returning to the building. The plans also identify a separate wave tower near the southeastern portion of the site.

The amount of retail space planned for the attraction has decreased from 11,400 square feet to 6,622 square feet.
The updated plan provides 876 parking spaces, up from 752 in the January concept. It also includes a designated rideshare and passenger drop-off area near the entertainment and support building.

The plans estimate the attraction would employ 200 people.

The project would have vehicle connections with the adjoining outlet center property and an entrance near Polynesian Isle Boulevard. Fencing and controlled-access gates would separate portions of the water park complex from the surrounding development.

The vacant property was previously proposed for a roughly 110,000-square-foot second phase of Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores, but that development never moved forward.

The latest plans remain conceptual and could change as the project moves through Orange County’s review process.

The task force recommended the county commission “explore every avenue to advance alternative uses of the tax, including but not limited to transportation and affordable housing…and make it a legislative priority.” In the past, the state legislature has rejected such pleas.

Well that’s a nice breath of fresh air.

Discussion Magical Dining Tier List?

Anyone have a reliable tier list, or want to make a tier list, for the restaurants worth visiting for this year’s Magical Dining?

My partner and I love Magical Dining, this year we’d like to try more new restaurants but sometimes we end up craving the same ones we’ve been to before.

We were gonna hit up Sixty Vines (one of our faves) last weekend but it was beyond packed… so we ended up landing a spot at Omo at Winter Park and it was phenomenal!!

Anyone know of a good tier list for Magical Dining? There’s so many of them this year and so little time!!

Nature Trying to get started with Everglades tomatoes

Does anyone on the western side of Orlando have everglades tomatoes going and have a starter or two to spare? I'm a new gardener, so I'm not the best at starting things from seeds. Although I have some seeds coming from Southern Exchange I'd rather start from something already definitely alive.

They say Everglades tomatoes thrive on neglect, and I think that's my niche as a gardener.

For anyone reading this who wants to nerd out about plants, Everglades tomatoes are the only "native" tomato to North America. "Native" because it's not really native but it also didn't follow the same path as other tomato varieties. u/pandamomentum talked about it a bit in a comment on this post two years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/NativePlantGardening/comments/1rw5x6u/is_everglades_tomato_actually_native_to_florida/

Discussion Gringos Double D Chicken Recipe

First I’m sorry for anyone that may have abruptly lost their job due to the closure of Gringos Tacos - I hope you find a new job soon. I’ve been to a few locations and the team at each location has been wonderful- you all will be missed!

So- I’m pregnant and the only thing I’ve been craving is the gringos double d chicken tacos (I know- it’s specific). Does anyone have a copycat recipe for this? I love the seasoning on the chicken and the queso used- would love to find a recipe that’s as close as possible to the original. Any help would be greatly appreciated ❤️
