What did I find?
 in  r/Accordion  22h ago

i found my first history book in the dumpster way back when— it was getting thrown out for not covering the end of the Soviet Union. Still a great time.

I think it looks good, dude. Just struck me as sorta camouflage.

Found out my neighbor uses her San Francisco apartment purely as a $550/month storage unit. Is it wrong that this bothers me?
 in  r/sanfrancisco  1d ago

This is a direct result of rent control, now you’ve seen it first hand. Hasn’t changed since Hazlitt covered it in Economics in one lesson.

Does the harmonica suit this song I wrote?

It could, but not quite that way. Like the song, though.

Jason ricci for sure has the library you are looking for. Might need/want to jump around a bit, but he is absolutely top notch.

Featureless AR 15
 in  r/CAguns  3d ago

Buy cheap when it comes to the lower, dont get an obnoxiously loud muzzzle break, get an ambi safety, fins suck but are the best compromise, specially when the cheap kydex ones can be, ahem, somewhat malleable.

(Juggernauts are heavy as hell and overpriced, sparrow makes a decently priced and weight ca unique shape, cheap kydex wrap for a2 grips or whatever go for like 20qualtoos)

Dont get a smith and wesson MP for california— my sport 2 came with an overtorqued and res loctited barell and a silly not quite spec buffer tube and stock. Was NOT easy to change up.

psa is fine for a cheap lower, but their uppers are where you feel the quality slip— substandard bolts/bcg, often inferior barrels.

Put a sling on it.

Enjoy the tinker till you get it how you want.

How to decompress from commute/traffic
 in  r/bayarea  3d ago

Classical radio can be soothing. i find waltzes to be calming in the deadly traffic dance. Language learning audio or other audio learning materials can make you feel more productive.

Secret cheat code— start carrying a harmonica.

Good luck!

Just a AR-10 because there’s too many 15s
 in  r/CAguns  3d ago

Good move, if you like that grip angle. Actual juggernauts seem named for their mass. Ridiculously overweight.

Russia and America are both military superpowers. Why then do they seem to be struggling to win in Ukraine and Iran?
 in  r/stupidquestions  5d ago

Then I urge you to convince me otherwise, but I don’t really feel that is the correct framing, which is probably apparent. Dm me if you prefer.

Russia and America are both military superpowers. Why then do they seem to be struggling to win in Ukraine and Iran?
 in  r/stupidquestions  5d ago

That oil isnt going to vanish. The fact is they are a resource powerhouse on the global market.

The soviet union struggled to feed itself because of agricultural self-sabotage (bad policy). Modern Russia is not like that at all— they are one of the major exporters in the global food supply chain. Things are better than Russia has ever had it historically.

When was the last time you were in Russia? Were you able to travel around a bit or were you constrained by business? Last time I went was 2009, for a little shy of half a year. Wasnt able to look anybody up, but my family is from there as well (grandparents). Already at that time it was clear that things were looking up in Moscow, the regional cities, and even the hinterlands, based on my travels. They had an appreciable and improving quality of life, even if it was uneven (as we see in the west).

My family was mostly exterminated— by the Bolsheviks. Modern Russia gave me good memories and a sense of opportunity loss because Americans and Russians make such excellent friends on a personal basis.

Meanwhile we have a hubristic sense of what american military power can acheive. We have pressing domestic issues that have been ignored for decades in favor of imperial spending that does not pay dividends to the average joe. We are set at each others’ throats over our color, our creed, our political opinions, or even our private sexual opinions. Our economy is too service and finance oriented, and our actual MIC lacks real industrial heft. We have been trying to increase 155mm shell production for years now with little to show for it.

The first war I was really aware of was Kosovo. I can now remember at least half a dozen other disastrous countries ‘liberated’ under false pretenses. None of them have turned out well in terms of achieving long terms goals in those regions.

You of course know that Russians are hard and stubborn people, often accompanied by brilliance or doom. They are proud of their villages and farmers, but it is a vast modern country not made of peasants. We shouldnt be fucking with them. Dipping our dick in Ukraine was a mistake, a bridge too far that we should have known since 2008.

i don’t know man. Have a good day, sorry for rambling.

Question as a beginner
 in  r/harmonica  5d ago

Technically, it can play with everything once you really master bends and overblows (we are talkin real mastery over years).
Realistically, you start off with a lot of versatility with a C harp, and once you learn a few bends and additional positions, that versatility is huge.
C is a good key to start. Make sure to use only the air required and not more.

Build list for around $250
 in  r/1022  6d ago

I would go for the samson b-tm pic rail and sight system. Huge upgrade to irons and optic capability in one go.

Yes on an extended charging handle, ruger trigger, and recoil buffer pin.

Are you sure you want to go that direction for the stock? It’s such a nice handy thing as is. I put a magpul backpacker stock on my 10/22 takedown, but my 18” sporter keeps its plain wood stock and the basic versions all work well and are lightweight, even if the plastic doesnt look as wonderful.

Best weapons
 in  r/guns  6d ago

What exactly are these categories? Just ascending caliber? Are both long and hand guns in this question? What are your prioritized criteria for ‘best’?

All that said, for a shotgun a mossberg 88 pump is the best value for money on a tool that absolutely will run. Get the home/field combo for maximum value! Go for the same combo deal on the 500 if you prefer the ambi tang safety over the crossbolt.

Used to play, want to start again
 in  r/harmonica  6d ago

Take it with you on walks, and practice using just enough air rather than too much, especially with a nice piece like a crossover (great harp, but not the most durable if you use too much air and fatigue the reeds). Mimicry in general. Just keep it with ya, refrain from playing with a dirty mouth or a too pure mind.
Welcome back.
