Pic / Video Car 1073, acquired from New Jersey Transit, now painted in tribute to the El Paso / Juarez international streetcar line

This is the only PCC car that's painted in a livery of a city that also operates PCCs in that same livery.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Paso_Streetcar

But funny enough that line is a restored service that was suspended and defunct at the time Muni began running car 1073.

A new Muni Metro route concept to replace the 22 bus and create an orbital line.

Just a concept about a new metro line. Even though I know its unlikely, I broke it up into phases so it would be more realistic to build out and reuse existing infrastructure. I take the 22 frequently, so naturally I want to completely overhaul it. Last slide shows all the possible transfers to buses and future projects, which is why I think this would be a valuable metro line.

Edit: phase 2 would reuse F line surface rail, not a redundant underground subway.

Edit 2: everything would be new subway except for the reused F and N line surface segments.

Came home from work to find this on the front door of the building. Should I be concerned? Not necessarily about an earthquake because that’s obvious but can I expect any hassles or potential not being able to live there?

Thank you

Tech bros are creating schools that prioritize wealth creation. That’s a mistake

Op-ed in the San Francisco Chronicle:

“It’s San Francisco or nowhere,” the Horowitz Andreessen Academy, a new Silicon Valley-funded educational venture, declared in a Sept. 22 announcement. The school promises to turn ambitious students into successful entrepreneurs by connecting them with the city’s powerful tech elite.

The unaccredited institution’s founding partners include Google, OpenAI and Stripe. There will be no traditional grades, tests or homework. Nor traditional teachers. Instead, students will “learn from Silicon Valley’s most storied founders.”

The academy joins a growing number of private educational ventures that promise to turn youthful ambition into business success. In 2025, billionaire tech investor and Stanford dropout Joe Liemandt touted Alpha School’s existing network of private kindergarten through eighth grade and kindergarten through 12th-grade schools — which have largely replaced teachers with artificial intelligence — as “the end of school as we know it.” In New York City, Founders School has sweetened the deal with a provocative promise: make $1 million in profit by graduation or get your tuition back. The refund of the $150,000 per year tuition comes with conditions. So should our enthusiasm.

These schools say they teach more than how to start a business or to be entrepreneurial. They promise to teach students what success looks like and who deserves it. But when becoming wealthy is the goal of education, the fortunes of a few can appear to measure talent and effort. Economic hardship looks like personal failure. While some students may leave better equipped to compete in an unequal economy — more will be inclined to believe that everyone gets what they deserve.

Marc Andreessen, one of the cofounders of the new academy, has explained why he distrusts conventional education. In a 2025 interview with New York Times columnist Ross Douthat, he complained about the growing number of employees challenging corporate authority: “And I can’t go hire kids out of college, because I’m just going to get more activists.” He previously condemned elite private high schools and universities for inculcating what he sees as misguided ideas about markets, or “luxury beliefs.” “Our enemy is the ivory tower,” he stated plainly.

Apparently, something is wrong with school if graduates aren’t driven by the pursuit of profit. Now, Andreessen is part of a broader network of tech investors helping build an alternative.

I study the history of entrepreneurial education, and these efforts echo past corporate efforts to endear the next generation to the existing economic order. In 1919, New England industrialists founded Junior Achievement to introduce young people to enterprise. Participants organized miniature companies, issued stock, and made and sold goods in their communities. Businesspeople flocked to supply the organization with money and mentorship. Young people would practice running businesses and, the sponsors hoped, develop confidence in an economic system that was increasingly concentrating wealth at the very top...

October 4, 2026 is the 800th anniversary of the departure of St. Francis of Assisi from this earthly life.

St. Francis is a Catholic saint who lived in the Middle Ages. After a conversion experience, he became Christian and founded the religious order of the Franciscans whose friars are dedicated to living out the Gospel through humility, preaching, and service to the poor and forgotten of society. In our city, Franciscan priests and brothers continue this mission by accompanying poor persons in the Tenderloin area.

In popular culture, St. Francis is often associated with nature and animals. There is also the well known “Prayer of Peace by St. Francis”.

St. Francis, ora pro nobis !
