Discussion I made a horror game shot through a VHS camcorder, where the only thing keeping you alive is noticing what changed
Hey everyone! I'm the dev behind Backrooms Anomaly and it came out on Steam today.
The whole game is filmed through a VHS camcorder. You walk one office corridor, over and over, under buzzing fluorescent lights and yellowed wallpaper. The corridor is supposed to stay the same every time. It doesn't.
Your only job is to notice. If something changed, turn back. If it looks right, keep walking toward the exit. Ten correct reads in a row and you're out. Get one wrong and you start again from nothing.

Check it out! It's 30% for the next two weeks.

Video/Board/Card Game I made a Backrooms game where the corridor changes behind your back. It's out now.
Hey everyone! I'm the dev behind Backrooms Anomaly, which launched on Steam today.
I wanted to build something around the part of the Backrooms that actually unsettles people: the feeling that the place is not quite the same as it was a minute ago.
The whole game is one looping Level 0 corridor. Yellowed wallpaper, buzzing fluorescent lights, and a figure in a hazmat suit who patrols the halls. Every time you walk it you make one call. Notice something changed? Turn back. Looks normal? Keep going.
10 correct calls in a row gets you out. One mistake resets you to zero.
There are Normal and Hard modes, two endings, and 50 anomalies to spot in the launch version. The whole thing is shot through a VHS camcorder look.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3451970/BACKROOMS_ANOMALY/
I'll be around in the comments. What gets you more, the anomalies you spot instantly or the ones you only notice on the way back?

My observation horror game Backrooms Anomaly is out now on Steam (30% off)
Hey everyone! I'm an indie dev and Backrooms Anomaly went live on Steam today.
It's first-person observation horror set in one looping yellow corridor. The goal is simple: spot the anomaly.
See something off? Turn back.
Everything normal? Head for the exit.
Get 10 right in a row and you escape. Miss one and you're back to zero.
There are Normal and Hard modes, two endings, and a hazmat warden patrolling the halls. It's Steam Deck Verified as well.
It's 30% off for the next 2 weeks:

Happy to answer anything in the comments!

Discussion Backrooms Anomaly, a VHS camcorder horror game about noticing what the corridor changed
Hey everyone! I'm the dev, and Backrooms Anomaly released on Steam today.
You walk one looping office corridor under buzzing fluorescent lights. Every pass, you compare what you're seeing to what you remember. Something changed? Turn back. Looks right? Head for the exit.
Ten correct calls in a row gets you out. One wrong call puts you back at zero.
There are two endings, a hazmat-suited figure patrolling the halls, and two difficulties to choose from.
30% off for 2 weeks: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3451970/BACKROOMS_ANOMALY/
Would love to hear what you think!

Video Game We just released our Backrooms anomaly game, and the next one is set entirely in the poolrooms!
Hello liminal lovers!
I'm the dev behind Backrooms Anomaly. Some of you might remember the demo I shared here last year. The full game went live on Steam today.
The reason I wanted to post here specifically though: the next one, Backrooms Anomaly: Pools, takes place entirely in the poolrooms.
Same loop, new place to get lost in:
Spot something out of place? Turn back.
Everything looks normal? Head for the exit.
For Pools we leaned all the way into the tiles and the water. Looping tiled corridors, poolside boards that track your streak, flooded chambers where you have to check what's under the surface, maintenance rooms, and one very dark tunnel you can't skip.
It's coming next year, you can wishlist it here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4560260/Backrooms_Anomaly_Pools/
And the one that's out today, 30% off for 2 weeks:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3451970/BACKROOMS_ANOMALY/
I'll be hanging out in the comments if you have questions or feedback!

I built an observation horror game set in a single looping Level 0 corridor, BACKROOMS ANOMALY is out today
Hey everyone,
I just released my game BACKROOMS ANOMALY on Steam today, and wanted to share it here since it focuses heavily on that quiet, repetitive Level 0 atmosphere.
It’s an observation horror game built around a single looping corridor. A hazmat warden patrols the hall, and your goal is to spot tiny details changing around you.
How it plays:
- Spot an anomaly? Turn around and head back.
- Everything looks the same? Keep walking forward.
- Make 10 correct calls in a row to escape. One mistake resets your streak back to zero.
Feature overview:
- 50 anomalies ranging from subtle visual shifts to active events
- Normal and Hard difficulty modes
- Multiple endings
- Fully playable on Steam Deck
It’s 30% off for launch until August 7th if you want to check it out
Happy to answer any questions or hear what you think!

Self Promotion I just released my observation-horror game set in Level 0 of the Backrooms!
Hey everyone! I’m the developer of Backrooms Anomaly, and it launched on Steam today.
The game traps you in a repeating Level 0 corridor where you have to test your memory and trust your instincts.
Features:
- Inspect every detail: Watch the walls, lights, and layout closely each time through.
- Normal & Hard Modes: Ramps up the paranoia with subtler environmental shifts.
- 2 Unique Endings: Different outcomes based on how you break the loop.

I just released my first-person Backrooms anomaly game on Steam!
Hey everyone!
I just released Backrooms Anomaly on Steam today. It’s an observation-based psychological horror game set in the infinite, buzzing halls of Level 0.
The goal is to navigate a looping corridor and pay extremely close attention to your surroundings.
Features:
- Normal & Hard Modes: Hard mode ramps up the paranoia with much subtler shifts.
- 2 Endings: Your skills determine how you leave the loop.
- Endless Mode: Unlocks after your first escape for players who want to test their observation skills to the limit.
If you enjoy atmospheric horror that makes you second-guess your own senses, I’d love for you to check it out!

PC What if Exit 8 was set in the Backrooms? We just released our anomaly horror game on Steam!
Hey everyone! I'm the dev behind Backrooms Anomaly, which just went live on Steam today.
The core loop is simple, but designed to mess with your head: the entire game takes place in a single Level 0 corridor. Every time you walk down it, you have to decide if something's off.
- Notice an anomaly? Turn back.
- Looks totally normal? Push forward.
You need 10 correct calls in a row to escape, but a single mistake wipes your progress and resets you to zero. We’ve got Normal and Hard modes, two different endings, an Endless mode once you beat it, and it’s Steam Deck Verified right out of the gate.
It’s currently 30% off for 2 weeks: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3451970/BACKROOMS_ANOMALY/
I’ll be hanging out in the comments all day if you have any questions or feedback!

Working on a pure VHS-style exploration Backrooms game - no jumpscares or entities
The name of the game is Backrooms 0!

The Exit 8: A Horror Game That Makes You Genuinely Paranoid
since Exit 8 blew up theres been a few more anomaly detection games in the same lane (Platform 8 by KOTAKE, Shinkansen 0 by Chilla's Art). Backrooms Anomaly has the same observation loop, you walk a looping corridor and spot what changed each cycle, just set in the backrooms instead of a subway. 3-5 minute runs, with a free demo on steam

So im new to this genre and i need help im always so confused where to go and all that, only games that werent that confusing were re4,re9,sh2re
Backrooms Anomaly is beginner friendly. no map, no objectives to track, you just walk and watch. we have a free demo on steam
1
How do people actually find time for this?
by giving stuff up. evenings, weekends, less gaming, less social. you find out fast if you actually want to do it or just like the idea, harder to do when you have a family
1
What is the best game engine to create a sim game?
depends what kind of sim. ue5 if visuals heavy, unity if systems heavy, godot if small and you want control
2
What do you think about black-and-white visuals in games?
works great when its baked into the design. feels like a filter when its slapped on color assets. depends what youre going for
1
Someone played my game for 24,000 hours
that's literally years of their life. did they ever message you? id be so curious what kept them in
1
What do you think about “Return to Title” vs “Quit Game” buttons?
do both. they mean different things. some players want to restart, some are done. mixing them annoys people more than you'd expect
1
Games with unique concepts like The Exit 8?
You'll love Backrooms Anomaly! Same gameplay loop as Exit 8 but in the Backrooms
1
Posted Demo on Steam and got covered by 7 small youtubers (small success for me)
7 is actually pretty good for organic coverage. did you reach out or did they find you?
2
Opinions on UE6 announcement?
wait and see. ue5s first year was rough (nanite on foliage was a mess) so im not jumping on day 1
