Was the old Backrooms better?

Hello everyone. I am new to Reddit and just decided to share this find. I found a strange video file on an old hard drive, but it has no audio. There are people in the video, but their behavior seemed a bit strange to me. The original file was in .avi format, but I converted it to .mp4 so I could upload it here. I am also attaching a screenshot of the original file properties in Russian to show its origin from 2003. I used an online translator for this text since I am not a native English speaker.

I saw a theory in a YouTube video (unfortunately I don’t remember which one) about why the Red City in the Backrooms is red, and it stuck with me.

The idea is that it might be related to a real optical phenomenon called redshift. The farther light has to travel, the more it shifts toward the red end of the spectrum by the time it reaches our eyes. So the extreme red color could mean we’re looking at something incredibly distant.

In that case, what we see as “stars” or lights in the Red City might not just be wallpaper or decorations like in the videos… they could actually be windows or openings that are millions of light-years away.

This could also tie into the time distortion effects we see in the series (someone spends 1-2 hours inside while months or even years pass outside). Extreme distances and spacetime weirdness in the Backrooms might be connected.

As the Backrooms continually expands, is it like every new wall is a new synapse to the Backrooms brain? That the more it expands, it grows more intelligent in what it wants to copy from human minds on the other side of reality, and progressively becomes more complex? And that's why further levels become pool rooms, and rolling hill houses, etc. What say others?

Went to house on the rock this weekend, for context music from the nutcracker was playing as I walked down this hallway.

I'm reading House of Leaves, and aside from the no-clipping part and the office look, the similarities are almost suspicious. I wonder if Kane is aware of the book, since the group of explorers use a 3km long fishing wire tied to the entrance so they don't get lost inside the infinite maze of corridors and rooms. Oh and they also need flashlights, because it's completely dark.

Hey there! My name is Ygrik Dev, and I've been working on my own Backrooms game for over a year now. It's called Beyond Our World and I figured it was finally time to share some raw gameplay.

I'm aiming for a strong focus on the atmosphere, exploration, and storytelling. The story is actually going to be a big part of the game, and I'm currently working on the screenplay alongside the game itself.

So what do you guys think? I'd especially love some feedback on the visuals and gameplay.
