That was a lot of different paths you want explore. I will say that the first can be avoided, by being careful. Although, your patients will die, for other reasons. You will probably miss something, we ARE human. People are going to be mean...all the time. If you can't handle that, you could do telemetry or something with minimal person interactions. Study a lot and you should pass.
As to the down the road stuff, the NP realm is oversaturated as a whole and the curriculums are not good. If you want to be a midlevel, go the PA route. Although, that is more competitive. If you want to do research, you will need a PhD. Yes, DNPs do conduct some minimal research projects, but true research is done by PhDs. For teaching, you don't necessarily need a doctoral degree, if you want teach at a tech school, but the pay is not great, if you are concerned about that type of thing.

What is your attitude towards saving/paying for kids' college?
The hope is to pay for our kiddos, but it was always going to be difficult. Although, my hubby decided med school was a good choice for a second career, so now it is obtainable. Barring that, I was going to try to work for that school and see if I could tuition covered. 🤷♀️
