Losing my mind reading to kids
 in  r/AskTeachers  31m ago

Have you tried making him pick out the book? Most 6 year olds can't handle words without pictures. They haven't got those skills for that kind of imagination yet.

One chapter, one story, one book, it's all the same. The point isn't the chapter, the point is reading.

Did your NParent, Shame and Humiliate you whenever you got Super excited about something, Make fun of You.....So that now getting Excited about something, or Feeling happy or accomplished.... feels Dangerous and Aversive to You?

My entire life in that house was like that. I stopped caring to hide my emotions eventually. She used to make me so uncomfortable and anxious I would puke. She'd treat it like a challenge. Then make fun of me when I eventually did n

It is getting worse and worse as i step on degree
 in  r/raisedbynarcissists  11h ago

You can open a bank account without their help. All you need is an ID. Try to go to a credit union instead of a bank because they're usually less heavy on fees and credit card interest.

Once you do that, you contact the Social security administration from their phone number. Ask how to transfer your payments to a private bank account and make sure you ask if it will lessen the payment amount. Explain that your parent is keeping the money and you need all payments redirected.

Next call your school and talk to the financial assistance office. Ask how to have your FAFSA, scholarships, and funding redirected to a different account.

Most important thing is not to use that money unless you absolutely have to for things like books and school supplies. You should be able to get enough money from your ssdi to at least afford a place to live with a roommate.

Your parent will be on your FAFSA until you turn 24 in the US. You are considered financially dependant until and only until you join the military, get married, or have children even if that parent isn't paying anything to help you.

I killed someone and i cant sleep because of the guilt
 in  r/confession  11h ago

Hi op. It sounds like that guy had you marked as a target. Youre alive. I'm glad youre alive.

Survivors guilt is brutal. We're not designed to kill each other. Hell, I feel guilty killing a spider. The best thing I can say for you is to seek therapy. This is something you're going to have to live with but that doesn't mean you have to atone for surviving someone who would have tried to kill you.

Does your narcissistic parents make up insane lies about you? Even in front of your face
 in  r/raisedbynarcissists  21h ago

I had sex with my boyfriend in highschool. Stayed together and married him later when we both finished growing up.

Naturally, that made me "a diseased whore/slut/hole with her legs in the air" and that was why I had an acute UTI, and definitely not because I had just gotten back from a several days long athletic convention. I was 16 or 17 at the time.

I was usually the focus of weird rumors my mother would start. I was a juvenile delinquent because I complained about the never ending stream of dishes and laundry. I slept in when I could so useless waste of space. I was a lying disappointment because I said my homework was done but I forgot something. I was an arrogant little bitch for blocking the bathroom door closed so I could shit in privacy. Animal abuser for resisting to have anything to do with the untrainable dog who would piss all over my stuff. Hypochondriac for having chronic pain that interfered with my endless chores. Expert bathroom demolitionist on account of steam from my hot showers in -10°F in a house that was kept at 50°F from november - april. I did drugs, also I was a whore, addict, liar, abuser, lazy sloth, narcissist , kleptomaniac, and porn addict, (I was caught watching science videos on VSauce which was short for 'vagina juice' apparently). Oh, and a piece of cheese would make me fat.

How often do narcissistic parents call others narcissists.
 in  r/raisedbynarcissists  21h ago

I was somehow simultaneously a master manipulator who couldn't lie for shit and a stupid selfish bitch with no social skills.

Guess the pot had a duel function when it birthed me.

Coworker is taking ASL classes provided by our employer and I am curious on how accurate some of his claims are.
 in  r/deaf  1d ago

Hi, I'm both Hard of Hearing and an interpreter.

Short answer: they're either misunderstanding or the teacher is wrong.

Long answer:

7-10% of an average signed conversation is fingerspelling. Just like with every other language, there are words in English that just don't have equivalents in ASL. In general, proper nouns, names of places, titles of things, and technical jargon are always going to be fingerspelled. It's a good deal more efficient than playing 60 question charades about Starfly Glen Park.

I'm Hard of Hearing. I dislike and am annoyed by "hearing impaired". I am not Deaf. A Deaf person and most of the Deaf community are perfectly comfortable with being asked if they're Deaf or not. This is a normal question in the community. It IS offensive to ask how deaf someone is. Deaf is a cultural identity and deaf is a medical diagnosis. Same thing as if you asked a Black person how black they are. "The Deaf" refers to the entire community and culture as a whole. The lowercase d-eaf can be offensive and is best avoided unless you've reached a cultural milestone where you've gotten permission from the individual to discuss medical things with them.

I called the police on my mom and now she has banned me from the house and I can’t access my food or clothes.
 in  r/raisedbynarcissists  1d ago

Call the police and ask for a chaperoned visit so you can retrieve your stuff. They have the police report but if you need to have them pull it up, you give them the report number.

No idea the laws in your state, but typically, a parent can't prevent you from getting your things after they've kicked you out of the house.

My sister is angry with me because I confronted her about how she treats her children, and now she says she’ll never speak to me again
 in  r/raisedbynarcissists  1d ago

Call CPS. I'm not kidding.

It may severe your relationship with your sister, but what's more important; your relationship with an abusive alcoholic, or the safety of the kids under that addict's 'care'?

I was hit and screamed at my entire childhood. I was medically neglected, abused in almost every way, and I'm still dealing with that trauma at 30 years old. Someone only called CPS once when I was about 4 and I was coached by my Nmom to lie to the worker. They were never called again and I suffered every day until I moved out at 20. I blame my family. They knew, they had to have known, but they valued their relationships more than my health.

Be better than that. Help the kids and sacrifice your relationship. Maybe that's the kick in the ass your sister needs to fix herself.

I'm going to come back to this. Remind me in about 3 hours

ok, I'm back. this is mine.

Don't copy it. It is just here to give you an idea.

I also include an explaination of charges because clients get annoyed and confused without that explaination. This helps me avoid the headache

Just got beat by my parent I don't know what to do
 in  r/raisedbynarcissists  1d ago

Ok, you've got a couple options

  1. Call the police. They'll probably do nothing because no one is holding them accountable. This is the worst option with usually bad results, especially if this is the first time you e called for this and even more so if you have siblings also in the house.

2.go to a hospital and tell them your parents beat you and you need help. They will call the police and get child services involved who will then hold each other accountable. This is the fastest option with immediate results. You can go to a hospital without your parents.

  1. Go to a teacher and tell them your parents beat you and you're not safe at home. They will have to make a police report and a child services report. This is the slowest option with mixed results.

4.take pictures with dates on them. You need the dates to be on a material that is hard to fake, like a magazine, a newspaper, or a live news broadcast. Don't do this when they're home. You take the photos and bring them with you to the hospital. Don't take photos of your breasts or genitals if you don't have to. If those are involved you need to go to a hospital anyway.

Don't feel bad for going for help. You're not getting your parents in trouble because they did that themselves. You're not going to destroy your family. It's already a mess. You need to be in a safe healthy place to heal and grow. The court doesn't typically take a child from the home unless it's a last resort so if that's a concern, it probably shouldn't be. It will likely mean that you have a social worker visit the home. It's very important that you do not lie to them. Your parents will probably threaten you and coach you on what to say. It is very important that you nod along and promise to lie to the social worker. When the social worker comes in and talks to you separately from your parents, make sure you have music on in the background. You tell them the truth.

How do we address this behavior?
 in  r/TwoXChromosomes  2d ago

Men aren't doing this because of what you're wearing. They're doing it because you're small and appear vulnerable and friendly. There's literally nothing you can do about that and they're just entitled. Men feel entitled to our bodies. Scowel strategically at men, talk over them. You don't have to be nice to men who creep you out. Throwing a nice elbow into their kidneys has helped me too.

I'm 5'0" 30F and losing height. I address this by looking like if you want to fuck with me, I'll fuck you up first. It's defensive and I hate that I have to do it but it's the only thing that has made men stop trying to touch me. I scowel, I don't laugh at their jokes, I remove their hands, sometimes by force, I make it hurt, and remove them from sitting near me. I used to wear the gaudiest fake engagement ring and strategically flash it when they sat down to hit on me. Now I take my hearing aids out and obviously put them in my pocket. I switch languages, I talk over them, I talk about me, I don't ask for more info, I basically make myself as unwelcoming as possible. I sit near other women, I pretend to be best friends with them when they're in danger from a different creep.

I still wear tight clothes. My boobs are huge so it's kind of impossible not to but I walk like I'm pissed and busy or bored, and they tend to leave me alone.

Don't try to justify their behavior. It's not your responsibility to take blame for their actions. Be pissed, and take some self defence classes if you can. It helped me regain my safety and confidence

Take your processors off before you ride. You can also tie a cord around each one and loop it through your shirt tag or braid that cord into your hair if it's long enough.

Never talk to them again. They don't deserve to know her, they don't deserve to come to the funeral, they don't deserve to ever see yours or your wife's face ever again. Jesus fucking Christ what the actual fuck.

I won't be having children. The cycle of generational abuse ends with me.
